Due to the price, is there anyone else who cringes every time Matt puts it down on the concrete and moves it? Great to see another review and always look forward to your videos. Like your perspective on church and life.
Thanks for the review! I have used your and Tim Wildsmith's reviews to purchase several of my bibles. I have learned so much about bibles from watching the reviews and have found new vigor in getting back into reading The Bible.
I never fully appreciated my local Christian bookstore until they unexpectedly closed some years ago. (Pre-Covid.) We are so blessed with Bible options that it's quite hard to sort through it all. Bible review channels have become a big help. It's still hard to judge font size/quality through a screen. But it's better than nothing.
Thanks for the nice review. I have been looking around for a nice, high quality Bible, that has an understated character. I settled on the Crossway Alpha in Wellington Leather and after looking it over I couldn’t be more satisfied. The cover has a simple elegance, and the gilding is something to see. The pages are text matched and coming from non-matched bibles I won’t be going back. The size is exactly for what I am looking for and fits perfectly in my hands. I am looking forward to using it for many years. 🙂
I really do like this Bible but it is the same text block as the Large Print Compact Bible with a little bit more margin space and better quality paper and cover of course. I have the LPC in Buffalo Leather and it is fine for my needs. I have become a real fan of the LSB and they are releasing their compact here at the end of the month. I have preordered one of those in goatskin with The 5 Solas printed down the spine. Great job Pastor Matt! I truly enjoy your videos. Being only a couple years into the Reformed faith I have learned much from you. Thank you!
Leave it to a Pennsylvanian to compare the leather to the feel of a Hershey bar. 😂 Of course out here in Sodom and California, we would compare the feel to a bar of Ghirardelli chocolate 🍫 It’s nice to see some regional differences still exist. 🙂 I’m a NASB95 girl, but this Bible does look beautifully made and I have been contemplating reading the ESV next year……
Honestly, what is it about this Bible that I should buy it over the Schuyler PSQ with beautiful leather, compact and has cross references, printed and bound in the Netherlands and much cheaper I believe. Appreciate the review by the way.
Schuyler PSQ ESV for me. Also very compact, 8.5 milo font, better type setting especially for poetry, better ribbons, colour accents, more leather options.
Hey Pastor Matt.. I'm sure you have a video on it but can you provide an Amazon link for your Crossways wide margin heirloom reference Bible? Also, I'm almost done with the content you have on Spotify.. Great stuff! Looking forward to seeing more 👍
Good review! I appreciated the comparison between the Wellington leather and the Horween leather since I was wondering about these two two leathers. Also, I wonder how the Alpha compares in quality to the Schuyler PSQ. Both are premium Bibles. Both look beautiful. Both are printed and bound by Royal Jongbloed in the Netherlands. Both double column. Both relatively compact. Both seem to occupy a similar space as an every day carry or personal carry premium Bible.
Wish I could see it in person to see if I can read the font. I have an old large print compact that I can still read, but not quite as easily as before. Aside from my beloved ESV LG print study, I just want a smaller on that I can take with me. But these premiums are something I can never afford. Or justify.
Have you had a chance to look at a schuyler psq? I feel like based on your criteria, it would be the best carry bible to have. It's essentially this with bigger font and reference I think.
I use PDF versions of the Self Interpreting Bible (4 vols) and Scrivener's 1887 Greek text. My notes are in the form of PDF comment facility. With PDF, I can make the text bigger as my eye sight gets worse.
Hey, Matthew. Your first name is my middle name! I wanted to ask what your favorite bible commentaries are, specifically for John if possible. God Bless you, your family and your channel :)
Pastor Matthew. Don't stay in Bible-review retirement, please. Keep going with the Bible reviews. I bought the ESV Study Bible because of you, and you alone. The thumbnails, and "better cameras" and "better lighting" of your "competitor" Bible reviewers means nothing. I like content, not production quality....and I really really really value your opinion! (BTW, I recently became Reformed... completely rescued by Christ out of a charismatic Word of Faith so-called Church.. I really value your channel, including Bible reviews) - It's too bad I'm all the way up here in Toronto... I wish I was a parishioner at your Church! :)
I will never understand the two-column bible format. It's as if some authority once said, "The original manuscripts were all written in two columns per page, and in order to preserve the originality of the text, all bibles henceforth shall be thus constructed." Humbug. Have you ever personally written a letter in two-columns per page? Would you like to read War and Peace in that format? Of course not. Then why, oh why, must our Bibles be so formatted? It is utterly alien to the natural rhythms of reading, and thus to the clearest understanding and enjoyment of the most important book ever known. I have many study bibles. But when I just want to soak in the pure text under the inspiration and leading of the Holy Spirit, or read a passage out loud in public, nothing comes close to my Crossway, single-column, wide-margin ESV. No clutter, no footnotes, no commentary. Just the text, plain and easy to read fluidly... like it was written down in the first place.
I prefer using the KJV or NKJV. The ESV is based on the eclectic Greek New Testament. The Jesus Seminar approach to textual criticism does not inspire me.
Don't fool yourselves. You geldings are beta. Your Christ is somewhat emasculated too. He regenerates, but only because it happened before he was, when he was just a little logos in the mind of the Father. I could be wrong, but if I am, it's God's fault. Nyah.
Don’t be too quick to belittle your “OG” status. The energetic, enthusiastic Tim’s and Jason’s of the world hit me like overzealous used car sales folks, so it lessens their credibility for me. Your steady, even-tempered, logical, consistent style is more credible, so thanks for that. This Bible looks great, but I wouldn’t want an 8pt. font.
😂 this guy has to be a troll. The Orthodox Church uses the esv as well as the king James. You better make sure it’s the 1911 or better yet pick up the geneva version.
Hahaha... LOVE this! And yes... the Alpha is GREAT.
Too funny!
You just smile too much, bro! 😂
Thanks for the shoutout!! I appreciate it. You're still awesome.
Due to the price, is there anyone else who cringes every time Matt puts it down on the concrete and moves it? Great to see another review and always look forward to your videos. Like your perspective on church and life.
"I can't do this. I'm Presbyterian, I can't have this much fun" 🤣
Us introverts don't do surprise faces. lol It's hard enough hitting record.
😂 👍
Still my favorite Bible reviewer!
As a Presbyterian myself I had a little too much fun watching this video!
"I'm not allowed to have fun, I'm Presbyterian", I was waiting for a frozen chosen to follow that up 😂

Matt, I have seen all these other guys and they're great, but your still one of my favourite reviewers.

The Presby joke got me 😂 you gotta come back from retirement! I love your reviews. Great work Pastor Matt
Oh, Presbyterian! Go for the fun (decently and in order).
Still love your OG reviews Pator Matt. Tim does Rim, and you do you. That’s why the channels are enjoyable, because they are not all the same!
I LOVED THIS. Great intro! Nice to hear your thoughts on this Bible.
I like that it has wider margins and bwtter paper than the Esv LP Compact, but it's very expensive. Will stick with what I have.
Leave it to a Pennsylvanian to compare the leather to the feel of a Hershey bar. 😂

I like at least 9.5 , and 10 or more is even better.
At 8 point font, no can do. I'm 75 so my Bibles are now Yellow Pages tall and thick, for those who remember what I'm even talking about. :)
Mine is on preorder. Can’t wait

Looks line matched, really nice!
I am excited to hear your thoughts on this Bible. It is on my buy list but funds are tight. Still excited to pick it up when I can.

Your pronunciation of "Wellington" cracks me up every time!!! LOL
What is to the left of your Spurgeon sermons? It looks like the Berkoff's Systematic Theology but it’s 2 volumes?
Hey man keep them reviews coming
Hey Matthew is the alpha shorter than the Pitt Minion? Would you stay with the Pitt Minion if you had eagle eye vision?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
which is better, schuyler treveris or crossway heritage?
I enjoy your videos also

Could this be your one and only Bible?
Hey, Matthew. Your first name is my middle name! I wanted to ask what your favorite bible commentaries are, specifically for John if possible. God Bless you, your family and your channel :)

I don’t think I could ever afford a Bible that beautiful.. if I did, I’d ruin it with my terrible hand writing
As a gradyate frinm a good Presbyterian Seminary, I I nderstand what you say abouttt those thumbnails. (I'm 77).
Think we need another Pitt minion review to see how it’s holding up.
Mr wildsmith goes to a church that uses an niv bible though….
I’ll wait until they release the next text version
LOL "I'm presbyterian I can't do that"
If you're not going to use it, you could donate it to Tim W. for his Christmas giveaway.
😂 Practicing for a side hustle in family-friendly Christian stand-up?! 😂😂
You’re cool.
Those of us who are Presbyterian still need Bible reviews. ;) You underestimate your reviews, Pastor.

Looks good! But MAN I wish VBV would be the default for ESV

47 yo , you are still a kid .. 😂😂😂

YIKES, a Calvinist bible, No Thanks.
what translation do you prefer?
I love the non-Calvinist Bible, the preserved word of God in English the Authorized King James Bible.
😂 this guy has to be a troll. The Orthodox Church uses the esv as well as the king James. You better make sure it’s the 1911 or better yet pick up the geneva version.
@@definit1on119 pretty sure they use the nkjv
@@hudsontd7778
The King James Translation, translated by all those Calvinists in the 1600s hah
I halfway thought you were saying new channels like mine 🥹 then you said the Tims 😐🤣 that’s awesome, you guys are all NEXT LEVEL reviewers!
