It's really crazy how much effort is put into just getting the homeless out of sight. After APEC last year all the homeless returned to their old spots around the conference center. It makes me wonder how much time and money was spent to clean up the area just for a few weeks, instead of actually trying to find a solution.
its wild that the country can spend 89 million on forcing people out of town instead of using that to create affordable housing. Gov is literally taxing people out of there homes and then using the same tax money to ship people around the country
A big expansion of the tiny house type schemes would help make a lot of difference as it would give the homeless a home and security that is lacking in lots of shelters at a relative low setup cost. A small, simple but comfortable individual space at a set address would give many a foothold to build from to get into employment and rehab etc.
I find it ridiculous that the smallest and cheapest places I can get are often at leaast 750 sqft, 1 bed, and cost at least $1,000+ a month. I'd happily pay $500-600/mo for a smaller studio apartment if it meant I could more easily afford to live.
I am so glad that I am not homeless, I was in my early teens when my father kicked me out when was 15, he was able to get away with that in those days, I am 57 now. I know what it's like to be homeless and it has it's ups and downs, mostly downs but you adapt and become resourceful to survive, I can tell you some stories of places I slept such as the attic of my fathers old one room school house, thank God those days are over. It's nice that you make these type of videos, it helps to bring more awareness to the situation, well done.
That's the topic that's close to my heart. I've never been homeless, but that doesn't mean I don't see and feel the problem. I don't know what's the solution too. But I would much rather see not so fancy and expensive gov and admin buildings, not so beautiful parks and less colorful cities and wisely spend that money on giving homeless people a chance to get out from the hell they are in. There are better places in the country with working addiction breaking centers, housing policy and job finding ways. Every country should study what really works and implement that solutions to their societies. People's minds need to change. I don't see myself any better or worse human being than a homeless guy or billionaire. We are all children of mother Earth, equal in our freedom, liberty and the right to have good, happy lives.
Always keep in mind that there's a lot of mental illness in the United States and not everybody who is homeless is somebody who is drug or alcohol addicted period for some people. It took one health problem or 1 not so good decision that left them. Homeless . many cities in the US are experiencing homelessness. And I remember in the 80s. They were talking about this happening around the time that we are in now about the housing. And they're not being enough .we are all human beings and should not just be thrown away like a bag of trash like we have no feelings, and we have no good contributions to make in society. Finding faith in simpler things and in God helps many get through each and every day. Thank you for posting this video and and sharing other people's experiences.
Thank you, Erik. Great research, presentation and presenting of, so far, two stories/videos about the homeless. The first was of the man who remained under the NY Amtrack tunnel for 25 years. I didn’t hear how he passed. I hope he had help, or at least didn’t suffer much, and passed gently. Of course, I don’t mean to suggest that he didn’t have a lot of suffering with being alone under the tunnel and aging. I simply didn’t hear that part. I’m 60, muscle-wasted from nerve gas and have been on brink homeless 5 years with no one and targeted and weakened by sociopath. Sometimes gotta outsmart the devils to save one’s life. Think could be close finally getting to security. I’ve been so vulnerable and fearful, though taming it for decades. Target cheap house (discounted) low taxes, and still get enough for retirement. Being free and clear on a house, lowest expenses and finding way to leverage way to earn should be everyone’s goal. My goal eventually get land home (steep discount, low cost area) where I can help those without way get on feet. I’ve been dreaming for decades as I had no choice work to cure fatal autoimmune, other. Army covered up nerve gas. The land project will be a type of cooperative Habitat for Humanity style, where everyone lives off the land, and everyone helps build homes for the newcomers. Prayer and never giving up may have brought the way with a miracle small investment few thousand seed crypto hopefully opening soon. First step security. Then learn trading to multiply the money to b be able to afford the cooperative land and house. Our nation Will only get worse, The economy and poverty, taking an ever steeper dive with so many that need a leg up, a way help save them. If this works, all credit to Yahweh who carried me, guided, protected and provided the way. Keep fighting and preparing , people. Pray always.
I haven't watched this one yet, but i just wanted to comment on Carlos from the videos a few months ago. I was really touched by his story, what a wonderful man he is, a good man. I'm so pleased that you managed to find him years after he was kicked out of his home. I know you will continue to tell his story, as the years go by. I hope with the go fund me page that is set up for him, that he might want to use it to buy a good campervan. A home on wheels. And i hope the go fund me page continues because it will help to support him as the years go by. He really deserves to have this. I know there are many in need, but if we can help just one here and there. We can help God to look after them.
Agreed with the extremely crucial need for the better solution instead of dumping the people to the day by day out there somewhere somehow someway hopelessly living. The good world don't need human’s hurt and sorrow.
Hey man, thanks for covering this. I really appreciate it. Its been this way for decades, and nobody in washington, or our local areas, seems to want to do anything about it. Theyd rather endlessly move homeless people around. And when i used to drive public transit, i seen a lot of that happening. It was sad. Now that im out of work for a while, ive focused my attention on helping the homeless and kids in my area thanks to my church. Theyve opened a whole new door for me so that i can do great things for those in need. I plan on continuing to help anyone i can. With the rise of illegals coming in though, the homeless crisis will be put on hold for a while. The illegals have jumped to the front of the Q, and those who are already living in poor conditions will get ignored by the government. The same government thats causing so much homelessness in the first place.
Thanks for watching, and sharing your perspective. Certainly every situation is different, but there are certainly people out there who just need a little help to get on their feet.
It's a complex & complicated issue without any easy answers but treating people as disposable or less than human can't be the best solution. We can do better than this & we should for both the less fortunate & for ourselves. Regardless of someone's personal beliefs, we can do better.
He Don’t care how homeless people are suffering because it’s not him. He has a nice shelter , good food to eat, nice clothes to wear , security. He doesn’t have to worried about surviving from day to day.
Thank you for another great video. It’s just so tragic that a country as wealthy as ours is does nothing to help this situation. This is only my opinion but I feel some of the homeless with mental health issues are due to Ronald Reagan closing all the mental hospitals. I know a lot of them were nightmarishly horrible, but they had no plans on where the people were supposed to go. The government tried to find housing for them but there were too many plus they didn’t have the ability to work. It’s truly a mess.

Thank you for your comment. You're definitely right, something needs to be done to actually help people get back on their feet. Unfortunately i think a lot of folks are being bused to areas with little economic opportunity.
It isn’t working as any individual or organisation employed to stop homelessness would be out of a job if they stopped homelessness. Instead they ask for and more money that doesn’t go into stopping homelessness.
@@danielktdoranie That is definitely an issue. A few years ago one of the largest shelter providers in NYC was found to be funneling all the city money into his own pockets. When the former Mayor was asked about it, he said something along the lines of - we can live with inadequate services, or have no services.
I think one thing that needs to be accounted for is that many homeless people have untreated mental illness and serious drug problems. . Also, being homeless gives people a sense of freedom . They have there own place and live on their own terms. Shelters appear to be very dangerous. So how do you get people off the streets ? First they need to want to leave the street. Second they need to be evaluated that they are capable of making that decision. Third, where do you put them and how do you stop them from going back on the street.
If they're gonna pay for them for a year, that would give them enough time to get their life together If they're addicted to drugs, they go into a treatment facility If they have mental problems, they have medical, and they can get treatment If the rent is paid for, they don't have to be afraid of living on the streets. Once they deal with their issues, they could probably find employment
but ths was tried a lot. The fact is many don't want to change, its scary but true, They are so use to it they cant leave it. So then it becomes an issue of how much money do we spend? The same is true about failing inner city schools. some have less than 15% graduate yet they have more money than any other school around.
I don't think you can really talk about addressing homelessness without addressing addiction and mental illness. The "bad homeless" need treatment first and foremost. You can't hold down a job without treatment, but you can't afford treatment without a job. What are you supposed to do if you're in that situation?
I've been homeless for 5years living in my car with my dog but now things are changing around here it seems like the police and the security guard are always following me everywhere I go they're there watching me they don't let me park anywhere to sleep all they're doing is harassing me I am tired I'm about to take my life I can't take it anymore
Sometimes homeless are offered help but due to drug addiction, mental problems or just plain laziness, they refuse any kind of help. They'd rather be homeless.
And sometimes the people who are supposed to help them make them the victims of identity theft, and pandemic relief fraud. Several NYC public servants were just indicted for that the other day
Moving people back and forth is so incredibly stupid, and a huge waste of money. Are they just going to magically disappear? I think the people in charge are hoping they will just die. It's really sick.
how many homeless who want to go to prison; will it take before they amend the law; because so many homeless going to prison and getting 3 square meals a day and not having to sleep outside? reason why homeless are almost never arrested. cop knows the homeless gonna do anything to get shelter. homeless guy knows this too. so cop doesnt waste his time . imagine if the prison system now housed 50% homeless? see where im getting at. if i had to live on the street. i gurantee you in 24 hours ; i would do something to not be homeless.
The irony is that most of these ppl are estranged from their families. In many cases, this estrangement is due principally to a piety amongst these individuals' family members who view themselves as morally elevated and view their homeless family member as putred scum, subhuman, and undeserving of the life that they forced them into. The paradox is that it's the religious programming that these homeless individauls were force fed by their religious families that is the direct cause (in many cases) of their overwhelming and unreconcilable feelings of guilt, shame, and failure, which lead directly to addiction and homelessness. Religion is the cause of homelessness. And moral self-pedestalization. That's a fact.
Some of homeless belong in shelters, to regroup and recast their lives; others belong in asylums to get the care and containment necessary for them; some belong in jail. These people are citizens, and have a right to a better life. The reason they are out on the street is our {adjective} politicians' apathy toward them and their plight. The persons we American citizens have sent to do our political bidding have indeed failed the American population as a whole. There is no monetary incentive to reduce homelessness. It is like curing cancer; why provide the cure, when you can make a living off the donations sent to find it. The agenda to rehabilitate these homeless ones is far too complicated to set down here, in a comment -- but I could write a volume about it. The evil people in power in this country have engineered society in such a way as to inflict us with flawed and agenda-centered education, starting from kindergarten onward. We, now, as a society, have produced these homeless ones. American culture has taken a turn for the worse. We need help. We need someone to take the reins of power in this country, and steer our society back onto the right track. We are astray. Being an American must regain its allure and meaning. We are different here; we have more, so we should be doing more...for our poor. "Homelessness" is not really "a Thing"; it is those in power who use them to fulfill their twisted agendas that seem to make it so. Homeless persons, who are indigent, and whose minds still function, need more than money and sympathy; they need motivation and direction. They need to learn how to rebuild the foundation of their lives, not stand on its grave and beg. They are not "a population of homeless"...they are individual Persons. There, but for the grace of God, go I....and you. Step one should be the death penalty for drug mules and drug dealers. They have killed and damaged so many people, walking them nicely onto the bare street to become castaways and zombies. Those in power profit immensely from this trade, and will not stop it. They must be made to stop it. Think on this; this is the core of the destruction of our society, along with the communists and socialists who are paid shills, and have infected our country's seats of power: the Congress, the White House, the Judiciary. I watched this begin in the 60's... "Homelessness" is but a bellwether of what is coming; the canary has already died. Do something.
it is shocking to see how USA treating there citizens! the riches county in the world.. shame on that unhuman politics,my prayer to these suffering people/from Sweden
The solution is direct homeless benefits. Disabled people get disability benefits, unemployed people get unemployment benefits, the elderly get Social Security benefits. Cut out the Homeless Industrial Complex from the homeless equation and this crisis will end.
Homeless are given options, but few have the will power to lift themselves out of it. Cities have given buildings up to house homeless, small studio apts, but an utter disregard for themselves and others turn them into drug dens. I hate to sound cruel, but most homeless people put themselves into these situations.
start passing laws that if anyone owns an extra house or any empty property they have to legally help temporary, rent free, or give said needy individuals said property to live in never to sell. Those who have more are obligated to kindly lovingly and compassionately help those who dont.
If they're going to help them to rent in a place for a year and are helping them to find employment so they can keep their place. How is that homeless dumping?
We could start by making it illegal to force a person from their home for any reason other than health and safety. Those who are removed for health and safety reasons probably need either emergency help, or medical attention, or mental assistance. The rest probably moved and can't find a new place, so maybe a national one stop or website would be helpful for them? It would be nice if everyone posted to a single site that was free to access. And it would be nice if all of the posters of available homes were verified so that, for example, lying about the availability of a property could be flagged and fined. It would also be nice if the law couldn't set housing size minimums for people who live on the property themselves (not renting out the space, or leaving it empty). For example, my town won't let us build a home smaller than 1200 sq ft on the first floor alone. This drives housing costs way up, and available land for homes way down.
Homelessness is a major issue around the world and its complex issue, I know some who were given flats but couldn't cope and went back on the street ? It's very sad but we need to address it, thanks Erik for highlighting this god bless man
As we see rockets fired at the cost of $500k left n right -NO PROBLEM. Assisting homeless-NOT A CHANCE. Shamelessly making the street look nice for XI was a disgusting thing to witness.
I am ignorant on this issue, why would someone NOT want to be in a shelter? I am aware of the “homeless dumping” in Washington state, when I lived there, neighbouring towns would dump all of their homeless into Aberdeen as it had some sort of shelter.
some of the homeless folks I've spoken to say they're dangerous and violent. There has been a lot of corruption and abuse in the shelters in NYC over the years. I'm sure for some it might be due to mental health and addiction issues.
We could start by making it illegal to force a person from their home for any reason other than health and safety. Those who are removed for health and safety reasons probably need either emergency help, or medical attention, or mental assistance.

could have done a lot of positive things for our own people with that money.
@@ErikKSwanson I agree. But the government and rich people will never allow that.
*for the amount we've given to israel
For the amount the politicians have given themselves
You have a wonderful voice have you done voice acting ?
Thanks.
I’ve only done voice over for my own stuff
I've been homeless for 5years living in my car with my dog but now things are changing around here it seems like the police and the security guard are always following me everywhere I go they're there watching me they don't let me park anywhere to sleep all they're doing is harassing me I am tired I'm about to take my life I can't take it anymore
Sometimes homeless are offered help but due to drug addiction, mental problems or just plain laziness, they refuse any kind of help. They'd rather be homeless.
And sometimes the people who are supposed to help them make them the victims of identity theft, and pandemic relief fraud. Several NYC public servants were just indicted for that the other day
Send them all to Martha’s Vineyard. 😊
They are humans, not cannon fodder for your hate
It's mostly a mental health/ drug addiction issue that no one wants to "honestly" address😮😢.
Moving people back and forth is so incredibly stupid, and a huge waste of money. Are they just going to magically disappear? I think the people in charge are hoping they will just die. It's really sick.
Don’t ask the outreach workers, and the non profits they work for.
Criminalize being homeless in plain sight and drive it even more underground, so no one sees it.
Brilliant strategy.
We don't sleep on sidewalks
Maybe you don't, but a lot of people do. Just check out some of my other videos. I have interviews with at least 2 people who sleep on the sidewalk
how many homeless who want to go to prison; will it take before they amend the law; because so many homeless going to prison and getting 3 square meals a day and not having to sleep outside? reason why homeless are almost never arrested. cop knows the homeless gonna do anything to get shelter. homeless guy knows this too. so cop doesnt waste his time . imagine if the prison system now housed 50% homeless? see where im getting at. if i had to live on the street. i gurantee you in 24 hours ; i would do something to not be homeless.
I guarantee you its way more than 654,000 people homeless.
Definitely
Something is very wrong with the USA when there are over 600k homeless people. Why isn't the president doing something about it? Isn't that his job???
People are just tax generators
prison, mental hospital or halfway house
They moved to my town 😅😅😅
it is shocking to see how USA treating there citizens! the riches county in the world.. shame on that unhuman politics,my prayer to these suffering people/from Sweden
hell. Why would you want to live in those conditions when you can live in luxury in the afterlife
We can help the Ukraine, but not our own people. Go figure that one……
The solution is direct homeless benefits. Disabled people get disability benefits, unemployed people get unemployment benefits, the elderly get Social Security benefits. Cut out the Homeless Industrial Complex from the homeless equation and this crisis will end.
I dont want my money going to some crack head with a criminal record !!!
👍🐿😎
Homeless are given options, but few have the will power to lift themselves out of it. Cities have given buildings up to house homeless, small studio apts, but an utter disregard for themselves and others turn them into drug dens. I hate to sound cruel, but most homeless people put themselves into these situations.
start passing laws that if anyone owns an extra house or any empty property they have to legally help temporary, rent free, or give said needy individuals said property to live in never to sell. Those who have more are obligated to kindly lovingly and compassionately help those who dont.
Do you own any property?
It's very sad but we need to address it, thanks Erik for highlighting this god bless man
Thanks for watching, and sharing your thoughts
Keeps removing my post...
As we see rockets fired at the cost of $500k left n right -NO PROBLEM.
Assisting homeless-NOT A CHANCE.
Shamelessly making the street look nice for XI was a disgusting thing to witness.
What what they're doing to the homeless is abused
and they are doing the same thing with immigrants. .
My opinion most home less don't want to work for minimum wage.
Nobody does.
You still couldn't afford a place to live on the current minimum wage which hasn't been raised in over 15 years, understandable.
let some set up shop in your back yard
They all got bused to your town
I don’t like the west not at all nearly catching 1mill to homeless ppl , I’m taking resources and going else where I had enough
In America you're wealthy or you're worthless.
That's pretty much every country
@meggrotte4760 Especially oligarchies like this one
I am ignorant on this issue, why would someone NOT want to be in a shelter?
I am aware of the “homeless dumping” in Washington state, when I lived there, neighbouring towns would dump all of their homeless into Aberdeen as it had some sort of shelter.
some of the homeless folks I've spoken to say they're dangerous and violent. There has been a lot of corruption and abuse in the shelters in NYC over the years.
I'm sure for some it might be due to mental health and addiction issues.
This a disgusting
We could start by making it illegal to force a person from their home for any reason other than health and safety. Those who are removed for health and safety reasons probably need either emergency help, or medical attention, or mental assistance.
How about you invite them to your house
because they all got bused to your town
Fascist behavior.
