My uncle built feeders for use with ear corn. Attached 1x2 inch with screws around the outside of a large electrical wire spool. Spacing just enough the corn ears would stick out just enough the deer could nibble and eventually pull them out. Top 1/4 has no boards but has a mining belt cover.
