Sonic WAS in Wreck-it-Ralph. He only had a brief cameo though. As Ralph is walking back from his Bad-a-non meeting in the beginning of the film, he strolls past an animated advertisement where Soinc preaches about safety of staying in ones own game... "If you leave your game, stay safe. Stay alert... and whatever you do, don't die! Because if you die outside your game, you don't regenerate. Ever. Game over."
He's also in the background a few times I remember seeing him getting hit by something and dropping rings as he flashes.

Yes Dr. Robotnik is the main antagonist of the franchise. He's called "Dr. Eggman" in most games, and he's just as funny in them.
Actually; Dr. Robotnik was the name of the villain in the US versions of Sonic, Sonic 2, and Sonic and Knuckles, and a few others. While in Asian markets; he was know as Eggman. Only later; after Sega stopped making Consoles, and just made games, did he Officially become Eggman everywhere. This is the reason my sonic calls him Eggman.
Green Hills is the name of the first zone in the original games; known as Green Hills Zone. The reason why Sonic rescued the turtle in the beginning; has to do with the games. Robotnik (Eggman); uses Sonic's animal friends to power his robots, so when you bounce on them; they are freed.
I can say; I wasn't expecting much from this movie, and got way more than I thought I would. This (and it's sequel;) has to be, one of the best Video Movies ever made

Dr Robotnik is indeed a character from the games and he's the main villain. As someone who has basic knowledge of the game, this movie doesn't really follow much plot from the game but does include some big references of the games.
The rings are like the game's points, like how you'd collect coins in some running games. It also works with Sonic's lives. So if Sonic has like a couple of rings on him and takes damage, he loses the rings. If Sonic takes damage and has no rings to begin with, he basically loses a life or game over. So the rings are kind of like a temporary shield that prevents you from dying completely.
The town Sonic is living in, Green Hills, is named after a level in his game.
Eggman is another name for Dr Robotnik
Also there was another scene at the very end of the film that features another character from the games that appears in the sequel. A little orange/yellow two-tailed fox named Tails.
The foot tapping and “watch checking” when all the missiles were around him. I remember playing sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis back in the 90s and if you leave Sonic standing there too long that is exactly what he does. And he breaks the fourth wall by looking at the screen impatiently 😂
Dude, Jim Carey’s dance in this movie is one of my favourite movie moments LMAO 😂. The song is called Where Evil Grows by the Poppy Family of anyones curious. If you want more Jim action I’d recommend A Series of Unfortunate Events, that’d be a great reaction.
3:20 - So Longclaw was made up for the movies, and might be one of the smartest additions they ever made. She gives Sonic an actual backstory, which in the games he is sorely lacking. We know he's fast, we know he fights Eggman and we know he cracks jokes all the time. But in the games, we're never really told WHY he's like this.
The movies explore the reasons behind Sonic's motivation and give him an actual character arc, while still keeping his personality mostly the same as the games. It's not the most complex stuff I've ever seen, but it's something. It also works to bolster certain interactions with other characters in the second film.

I remember when this movie’s first trailer dropped, and everyone was like, “This movie’s gonna suck, but Jim Carrey as Eggman is gonna be the best part of it.”
And then the movie released snd everyone was like, “Wow, the movie is good, and Jim Carrey as Eggman is the best part of it.”
9:50 I love how at first the viewer might be interested in Robotnik's origin story only to find out at the end of the movie that this actually is his origin story, or more precisely Eggman's origin story considering this movie shows his Transformation from Dr. Robotnik to Dr. Eggman
YES!! Love this movie! When the trailer was released it drew a lot of controversy when they showed the new design of Sonic, with more human looking features. They gave Sonic a new look a month before the movies release.
I can't recommend enough to Spectacular Spider-Man series which is the best and most accurate interpretation of Spider-Man outside the comics and I guarantee you guys will love it. Both the stories and the portrayal of Spider-Man are better than any of the actual movies. In general I recommend more Marvel and DC animated stuff.
Yeah, it's just a shame it ended on a cliffhanger with some unresolved plot points. I wish Marvel would bring it back, like they are doing with X-Men '97.

Basically sets up the rules for how the whole movie runs. I'm only this far into the reaction so far but I'm starting to feel like he has no idea who Sonic is. Even seemingly got confused by why there are rings in the Paramount logo. Maybe watching the rest of the video will explain it...

Yep. You forgot about the screens in the station stating "If you leave your game, stay safe, stay alert, and whatever you do, don't die! Because if you die outside of your own game, you don't regenerate. EVER!" They basically put sonic on a safety alert billboard to give us exposition.
It's actually pretty interesting seeing your reactions since you haven't played the games. There are a lot of Easter eggs in this.

It's interesting seeing someone who hasn't played _Sonic the Hedgehog_ react to this. First off, 7:56 that's what Superman does, not the Flash. And secondly, why did you skip the Tails post-credit scene?

Sonic and his archrival doctor robotic were in wreck-it ralph. During Ralph's speech with the bad guy's meeting, you see Robotic sitting in the group. Sonic is a screen making a speech about don't leave your game and if you die outside your own game, you don't regenerate come back. And in Wreck-it Ralph 2 when they are looking at the new plug for Wi-Fi. Ralph is confused and Sonic explains the internet.

0:55 - Jeff Fowler from what I understand has full creative control over the films. The producers seem to be just leaving him to his devices for these. And here's the thing. Jeff Fowler is extremely familiar with the Sonic games and all of the cartoons and other media that came out connected to the franchise. Once we get to the second movie, there are numerous things that happen in it in a certain way, where it's entirely possible (not guaranteed, but the possibility exists, and it's difficult to believe that it's all a big coincidence) that the movies might not just be referencing one of the cartoons, but could possibly be adapting it.
And interestingly enough, he's a brony (to the point where he actually voiced a character in the most recent incarnation of MLP). This might explain why he did a certain thing with one of the characters in the second film.
Anyway, he and the producers pretty much delayed the film for several months in order to give them time to get the redesigned Sonic done.

In games, Green Hill Zone is level 1 and Mushroom was world 5. 100 Rings lead to chance at Chaos Emerald. Dr Eggman (Robotnik later games) was a bit rounder. He said himself, he'd like to play game based form.

usually when super slow motion/freeze frame sequences are shot, (i'll use someone walking as an example), they'll most likely have the actor walk into the shot, or start walking when the camera designated for sequences like this pans onto them and then the actor will stop for a number of seconds so that the camera can pan onto something else

Also, I am SO grateful that the studio listened to the pleas from the fans and changed the original concept design they had for Sonic and kept his design FAR closer to the iconic look we're used to and made it fit a real-life setting at the same time.
👏👏 you nailed it perfectly. I was a bit put-off from game and show from the 90's that Jaleel White who is very much alive, didn't get to voice Sonic. His voice is iconically Sonic. But I set that aside and just loved every bit of this movie. It was different seeing slim Robotnik as well as his having hair, but I didn't care because it would have spoiled the epic magnitude that Jim played this part. He truly made the movie.
Wilson, was a nice touch too. In the game and show he has robotic everything and his minions are Scratch a chicken and Grounder a sort of poor man's R2D2, complete idiots 😁.
and I stand and applaud how seriously creative the writers were while keeping them all in character at the same time. Most video game franchises Resident Evil and Silent are just... Stop doing it. Make a movie within the world but keep the actual characters out of your mouth because those were cruel, and all involved just wanted to bank off the names. But this was a real treat

You missed the second post credit scene where they show tails, tails is sonics friend in the games and donut lord's niece singing gotta to go fast is a reference to a sonic tv show called sonic x, it's kinda of what the movie is based on, and on the games it is a mix.
Great reaction! I can’t for you to react to Sonic 2! My older siblings were playing mostly these games, and I just happen to follow their every move. Mario was more my game, but I did play Sonic as well. There’s even some games where they have both the Sonic universe and Mario universe combined even having them compete against each other. And yes, him getting the red shoes is what completes his official look. Also the moment you see Robotnik having the big mustache in end credits is part of him having his official look as well. 🦔👟⚡️👨🏻🔬💙❤️🤍

The first person I picture for the voice of Sonic will always be Jaleel White aka Steve Urkel from Family Matters who voiced Sonic in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog in 93, Sonic the Hedgehog 93-94, and Sonic Underground from 99 to 00.

As a lifelong fan (I was introduced a child to Sonic 1. Sonic has always been around in my life), I can attest that if they hadn't gone back and changed the design (where they took on help from one of the comic artists to get the direction right) this movie would have been dragged through the dirt.
I was a bit miffed at the blue arms, but it grew on me. Especially considering what could have been. Sonic characters have that particular style, and that is part of the appeal.
Sonic 2 is even better where they're writing movie-universe lore; it has common elements but it's told a bit differently, but that is nothing new. It's just a fresh new way of bringing the storyline to people that may not have experienced it.
And well, I remember when this came out, you had an actual war going on twitter since Sonic was absolutely trashing Birds of Prey at the box office and the SJW's were PISSED. If you want some fun, go look up a few videos about it. Basically the whole sonic fanbase started agreeing with the BoP people and trolling the hell out of them. I mean they DID start it first... LOL

If just watching it like something completely on its own, because it has very little in common with any origin media(judging by the plot it's mostly a comics), it isn't too bad. It has its cheesy moments a lot, but overall it is "watchable", even for Sonic fans.
A studio humbly accepting that they screwed up and genuinely listening to fans in order to improve a movie.
Would that Disney could learn from Paramount.

I like these movies. The second movie is good but not as good as the first movie. Too much screen time was given to human characters I didn’t care about and not enough to the Human characters I did care about as well as Sonic, Tails, and Robotnik. Mushrooms is a joke reference to Super Mario since Mushrooms are more from his world.

I only saw this movie because Jim Carrey was in it… and of course because I played the games as a kid for Sega Genesis back when Sega was still around. But back in Jim Carrey’s prime, he never would’ve done crap like this

2:09 - Not 2 seconds in and your lack of basic gaming culture is failing you. Pointing out the references is going to take me a while. Rings in Sonic are like Coins in Mario, only if Sonic gets hit by an enemy, he loses all of his rings instead of dying.
2:19 - SHHHH!!!!! You're talking over the most emotional part of the movie!!!! In theaters when the orchestra swelled and the chorus sang 'SEEEEEE-GAAAAAAA,' audience members had one of two reactions: a) tears, b) cheers. (I was an A, and I wasn't even a Sega kid.) And as people have already pointed out, he WAS in Wreck-It Ralph, in a VERY visible role.
