Hey this was great, Adam. The details really showed when you were painting the lighter crumpled can. It looked so real! Also, you did a spot on impression of that Captain from Modern Warfare! Thanks for the plug! Keeps these coming
Regarding the adhesive residue, I usually leave it on and then roll the barrel around on an old shirt or the garage floor to pick up lint/dust/debris and it makes for some okay weathering/texturing.
Sticky residue can often be removed with cooking oil. Dissolve the sticky in oil, dissolve the oil in dishwashing liquid, dissolve the dishwashing liquid in warm water.
@@TheLeadWillWalkTheEarth-4d4m It's not a perfect solution and is still quite a lot of work but I find the oil works better than going straight to washing up liquid. If the sticky residue is particularly heavy sometimes I try dipping it in sawdust and then rubbing off the sawdust to try and get some of the sticky off before starting the washing.
There's a trick to pulling away tape that might have lessened the likelihood of that paint ripping up, but it's a bit hard to explain in text. Basically to prevent masking tape from fucking up what's underneath it it helps to pull as close to parallel to the surface as possible, rather than upwards/perpendicular to the surface which is the natural intuitive way to pull it. I think of it a bit like the tablecloth magic trick. Anyway, great second vid! I've been wanting to make some little industrial barrels to go with my first Joytoy mech and this video will definitely be useful.
