Collectors: “you’re ruining the value of this classic toy”.
Real people, after the diorama is done: “you’ve made a cheap toy look like it’s worth 20x as much.
I’m a ‘real people’ type. So glad you committed assault on that old toy. Young Brian came out amazing! How/where did you get a custom mini you? Also…I’m so glad you share your ‘mistakes’ with us. Gives us the courage to try to do things. Knowing that the ‘big leaguers’ are also human 🤓 is encouraging. Lol.

Thank you Deanna! I think it's more valuable now too. I got the young Brian by creating it on Hero Forge. You can create all the figures you want, and totally customize them. Then you can either order the figure or pay for the .stl and print yourself.
Always happy to share the mistakes, as there are always some to share. Thank you as always for watching and supporting!

Brian Thompson this world is in a strange and some what uncomfortable place in the last few year. That said the one thing that I stumbled on to in that troubled time has made me a better person and also gotten me to get out of my comfort zone and get out there and make something out of Nothing and my friend. That is the smugglers room. You have a way of motivating and inspiring that can not be matched this build pulled at the hart strings and for this I thank you !

I've had the same crap myself when I've modified my guitars. People saying "you've ruined its value" and "you'll never be able to sell that".
All I can ever think or say is "Like I care, I don't want to sell it, its MINE!"

Great project and you did a wonderful job. I really feel like I had experienced a similar moment as a kid and it brought those memories back through looking at your diorama.
If you want to see some very interesting and out there kind of methods on building diorama, I'm always amazed at how some of the Gundam related ones turn out. Yes it isn't Star Wars but when it comes to making these I would imagine a lot of the scenry would be similar and both genres love the big metal scifi structures/machinery so the technique could be used. Plus some of them that work on action scenes to make them feel alive and how implement small electronic boards like raspbery pi to handle effects, sounds, and lighting can get crazy.
Thanks for all your hard work and I can't wait to see more!

I liked your "Warning!" about altering toys used in dioramas. I just sold a "Rebel" speeder-bike and rider. The fellow who purchased it appreciated that it had a bulky, supercharged, engine and a bearded Rebel rider.
I add Greeblies to the original toys, and freeze action figures in poses to sculpt them.
Come on, how are the Rebels ever gonna win if they don't use and upgrade the Empire's stuff?

Never saw any of your videos before (first-timer here). Just wanted to Comment that I Liked this JUST from your intro - it was very well said, gave me background on who you are and why you do the things you do, and immediately hooked me.
QUESTION: What's the material you're mixing up in the cup at the 5:19 mark?
PRO TIP: Static grass looks really finished when you wait for your adhesive to fully dry then **wash** the base of the grass with a darker color. You can also then **dry brush** the tips of the grass with a lighter color. I do this with all my adhesive-backed clumps and it looks amazing - seems to like triple the visual depth/impact of the grass. Don't know, however, if YOUR Mod Podge-adhered grass would survive the drybrush phase, but you should have no problems washing the base part. You can definitely do the same thing with your 'clumps' and moss, too, introducing subtle reds and purples to subtly contrast the green/green/green and add visual interest.
    Keep it up! :D

Just being able to hold a weapon like that, that has the capability to cut through the bulkheads of ships to feel the handle with no other weight to in while off, but then to feel the slight gyroscopic-like resistance in the handle when the blade is active and humming....that's just the tip of the iceberg for my creative wishes! As for modifying things like this... as long as it's not like super ultra rare, ain't a problem as far as I'm concerned. Personally I only have an issue if there's like 4 left in existence or something. These toys aren't at any risk of going extinct :P go nuts.

It came at a time that I was in and out of mental hospitals and I had severe depression and I had no purpose. I found you RUclips and thought hey I could do that and so I did. You may want to water your pva down a bit for the grass. When it's thick like that it doesn't allow the static to create the effect as well. Go thin and then spray a thin gloss pva mod over it after it dries, you can make a nice dew effect on the grass as well.

As a kid I had 60 acres to roam around on and though it wasn't Star Wars I imagined, it was a great fantasy. Watching you, dug up memories I need to do something about. Thanks for sharing yours, and as always, it has been awesome.

2:55 I don't know, Colin Furze got away with it! And hold on, you butchered your toy! Ohhh...wait...it is YOUR toy. And it is your right to do with it as you wish. I am a bit more of a purest, buuut I have been known to alter some things on occasion. Besides, these hunks of plastic are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them. I have a closet full of plastic that has some value to me, marginal value to some, no value whatsoever to my wife! (queue up fantasy thought bubble here) Some day! (rubbing my hands together) I'll sell it all for a fortune!

Dear Brian, your diorama is amazing ! A true masterpiece !
But earing you talk about this project, I think your are very harsh with yourself .
I give you a little advice because you know yet Nerdforge ! Look also the Tabletop Witchcraft channel .
This maker isn't a Starwars universe fan but all the technics he used to do " Dungeons and Dragons " game bords could be usefull to build more easely other dioramas like this one so ...
Now I am expecting the Carrissa's mandolarien cosplays with great impatience because I wish buy the patterns to do a casuel lot of nice and eccentric clothes for miself !
I wish you both in good health !
    Wishes from France !

Great work. Sometimes I wish I lived where there was one of these housing associations. I would be pushing the rules as far as I could just tomannoy tge jobsworth. There have been cases here in the UK where these associations\councils have literally threatened people with legal action for painting their front doors the wrong colour.

I have a nice collection of vintage SW figures and vehicles. I have no intention of selling them ,but I could never "customize" them.
But if you want to do that, go right ahead, I have no problems with that.
I make custom action figures, so I have no issues with altering toys.
I've been wanting to do a few custom SW vehicles, like a bashed up land speeder, so I bought a used POTF reissue off eBay to cut up and customize. There are plenty of options out there if you don't want to alter stuff from your collection.

That’s a great approach. Keep your vintage collection true to what it is, and find others to modify. I love it!

I agree with you, you paid for them, it belongs to you. I'm an in box collector for my own gratification, I'm never going to sell, but I'm of an age when as a 10 year old, Star Wars came out along with everything, I just wanted to play with them. Now I like to look at them with these old eyes, and let my memories of yesteryear trickle back.
