Dark, Thanks for the heads up. I just bought a gba sp 101 with the same light issue and I saw some damage to the flex cable. I'm going to test the continuity after I get home tonight so lets hope that this is the issue and that it's not the screen lights being dead... which I think may also be repairable. Great Video, you're english is fine :-)
Hi its possible like that some other line is broken on the flex cable only with a multimeter you can check that. If there are multiple lines broken its better to buy another lcd because its difficult to reconstruct if you don't have experience in soldering.
I've added too much solder to the back of the connector for the display cable when trying to hook up the wires (didn't have continuity on either positive or negative) and have bridged over half the pins now. I can't seem to get it off with flux and wick. Am I screwed?
I love you man................ YOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU!!!!! SWEEEEEEEEEEETTT MAN!!! And your english is not that bad. Its really good I would say for a non native speaker :) I shouldnt have bought a new LCD screen after watching this.... Im watching this because the new LCD Screen i bought ALSO HAD PROBLEMs... :(( I wasted 30 USD..... :( THANKS MAN!! ILL TRY AFTER MY EXAMS!!!!
@DarkangelGab cool man thanks. I'm just getting into this. My solder iron just came in from Amazon today. First step, replace dry pokemon batteries. 2nd is hopefully fix this frontlight issue
When I put my Pokemon Emerald game into my gameboy, the logo screen pops up like normal. After the logo screen, the screen goes white for a few seconds. Then it goes black for a few seconds, then it it black with a bunch of green speckles and it makes glitchy screeching noises. It does the EXACT same thing on my DS. My other GBA games work, so it is not a device problem. HELP!
my gba is a kyogre edition but the problem is that all the light is in front of the screen.so the light won't go on the screen too scared to open it and possibly destroy the limited kyogre edition I could send u a picture of it .is it possible to fix it
I am unable to fix the light on the game boy advance. I used a multimeter to check and it is the same exact situation as yours. There must be a break in the ribbon on that one small line. I checked the fuse and it looks good too. I checked the new wire I soldered in with the multimeter and it looks good. I have no idea what else it could be. Before it broke; first it would flicker a few times, sometimes it would come on then go out, then finally it just quit altogether. What a pain, any other suggestions?
how can i get a new screen for my gameboy advance sp LCD screen with the flex cable because when i had opened mine up it had broken in half so now the lcd flex cable is connected to the screen and the pther part of the system.
Hello man, i have a problem, the led light flashes from red to green a while and then restart the game, with full battery. I used a new battery tested and the same happened. What should i do?
Question, So my gameboy advance sp broke in half and it still turns on the screen of it is not attached can you give me a link to a viedo or tell me how to fix this and if you want send me a email and ill send a picture of it
My screen works but it's in horrible display. if you play an original GB or GBC game, the colors are smeared, if i play a GBA game the color is completely F#cked up. at least you can see and play the game but it's worthless if it gives you a headache within the same time frame as the VB did.
@@DarkangelGab I got a real question for you though. An old GBA SP I got for free has a problem. I replaced the battery in it, but only the bottom of the front light lights the screen up. I'm not sure what the problem is, but would you happen to know? And I fully support you to continue to make videos, and one day be able to make money from it.
There was dusk in between the plastic lens and the screen so I tried to replace the lens and in the process, wrecked the light.

VERY informative! Why can't every DIY video be like this?!

Use a pump to remove the excess solder
It happen the same to me, my advice is not to try it.
Without being attached to the gameboy sp?
I did it!!! Thank you so much!!! You're awesome! :D
What kind of wire is that??
Like, what guage?
I have tons of wiring, but want to use the right one.
What did you end up using?
Hi use the tiniest wire you find, like the wires found on a networking cable for example.
Where can I find one of those wires?
@@_...144 cat5 cables.

do you know how to fix a white out screen problem?
can you tell me where you bought the front-light? i really need to buy some!
7 years later. What if both sides of the ribbon works?
I have the same problem. My backlight doesn't work but the fuse and the ribbon work
I have continuity on both of them ;_;
Fixed mine with your tutorial tkss
Thanks for the video
Thanks bro! Worked for me. I used hot glue instead of soder for the connection on the motherboard.
I have one with shit lighting. Is that normal or do I need to fix it?
I'm a year late, but check the model of your GBA SP on the label on the back. you most likely have the AGS-001 model.
The year is 2023. Im still trying to figure out what wire youre using.
Hehe any thin wire will do you can use 1from a Ethernet cable for exemple (it has 8) 😅
@DarkangelGab cool man thanks. I'm just getting into this. My solder iron just came in from Amazon today. First step, replace dry pokemon batteries. 2nd is hopefully fix this frontlight issue
@DarkangelGab after testing continuity, it was the right one that doesn't have any. Should I solder the wire to the 2nd leg then?
Worked perfectly! Thank you!
Does anybody know what kind of wire he uses to fix it?

So yeah, i solder the wire and everything, now the game boy does not turn on, still charges though
Can you repair mine ?
I don't want to risk damaging my gba sp
Well I could but I'm from Portugal 🙂

Hey man can you help me please, i did as you in the video and when i checked continuity both cables had. So both cables work, what else can i check?
how can i get a new screen for my gameboy advance sp LCD screen with the flex cable because when i had opened mine up it had broken in half so now the lcd flex cable is connected to the screen and the pther part of the system.
My gba sp ags-001 ribbon cable’s torn, is it replaceable?
No, I'm sorry those are not replaceable, at least in the power of most.
So the flex cable is the real reason why the light doesn't work? Does the light itself still work?

Do you know if this works for the ags 101 model? My brightness button doesn't work at all,I'm just wondering if this will fix it?
Do you know what i can do if the frontlight works but the screen not??
I can hear the game and the light works but i cant see anything!!
works on ags 101 too thanks

Can I buy an AGS-101 screen and install it into my GBA SP AGS-001
Alex Karic no it doesnt work i tried
think you would need a pin converter.
Hi you can buy for example in ebay search for "gba lcd display"
Does it matter what kind of wire it is? Just the items I don't know about
The ribbon cable on my sp is busted after awhile of playing half the screen stops working but the other half still works can anyone help me
The newer screen doesn't work with the older GBA SP (I tested it myself and it didn't work.
The screen is supposed to be white?
sir I have a gba in nagative screen I don't know how to back in normal screen again please help me sir ? because I bought my gba in second condition

Prende y apaga normal o queda directa?
My gba sp has a white screen every time I turn it on the game plays but it shows nothing can someone tell me how to fix it
I may be a little late, but open it up like in the video and check the ribbon cable. Make sure it is in the whole way.
how to fix dpad on gameboy advance sp??
What size wire is it?
anybody know how to get a stuck game out of a gameboy advance sp?
Video is very quiet
i need a the sp screen
Can't you just replace the screen though?
Why replace if the problem is only one conection or 2? The screen costs money... for this repair you only need the skills and one wire 😁
@@DarkangelGab resell value that's why
Muy buen tutorial👌
Thanks!
How many pins does the ags-101 flex cable have?
omg its so easy and quick
a good video i subscribed for you

I'd say that you are better off buying another Game Boy Advance SP. However, there might be a way...
You guys are still playing that old junk? My gba still.works but problem is the end of the gba charger port broke off into pieces it sucks
Meme Invader Well if they are still working tha is not a problem xD
