if we land in Dharamshala airport, do we go straight to Mcleodganj and take a hotel there or stay in Dharamshals for 1 night and explore kangra fort, etc/ and next day go to Mcleodganj?

Yes you can drive scooty, bhagsu is the best location to stay. You can stay in dharamshala and then go Mcleadganj. Choice is yours.
