Man, if you travelled back in time (in fancy new cosmic-looking shoes) just 30 years and showed this flashy beast to guys how were "training" by pulling up on door-frames ... They'd be blown away.
Stopped me dead in my planning on a Moonboard for home use. Looking to better understand a timeline from Kilter. Love both the adjustable angles and the great holds. Interested in the app too. More details please!
Looks amazing. My only hope is that the texture of the holds is both a good texture, and a DURABLE texture. I find holds get wikkid polished when holds never move or change.
Gonna be quite frank here. It looks cool. But I have my doubts about this taking off. There's just not a standard way of setting this thing up like how a Moonboard is. Way too many variables in place for those who can't do an adjustable board or even ones that can do it. I feel the community is going to be widely sparse due to board to problem setup ratio. I can't even imagine what this thing is going to cost for the complete setup too. Moonboard as it is is pretty darn expensive, and it's probably only half this total cost.
@@ianpowell9881 well his concerns are coming from a perspective of someone looking in on the industry and gauging this thing's popularity with the global climbing community. He made fair points and I don't think he approached his comment as some individual looking to purchase one for his garage.
Looks so sweet! What are the holds made out of? I am curious as to what compound allows the holds to stay grippy/strong while still being clear for the lighted base.
Kilter holds are dope, but they are expensive AF. Wonder how much their training board will cost in comparison to Moonboard. I have a few kilter holds on my home wall - they are so good, but could only afford about 6 or so.
Hey, I went back and checked - it was 10 grips. They are great btw - sandstone seams and pocket seams. That was a couple of hundred bucks though. I'd be looking at a lot to fully kit out my entire home climbing wall if it was just Kilter grips, so I mix the good with some cheaper grips from e-grips and others. Grips for the Moonboard are what - $500, another $500 with the lights - plus the benefit is the 20k+ problems they have on the app. This system looks sick, and if the look feel of the holds is based on kilter quality, I'd probably pay up to $1500 for the set with lights. The problem is the network effect issue. Investing that much in a board is tough. The options for heights on this board would be great - not everyone has 12 foot of clearance, so 9 foot of clearance option would be awesome. It would maybe also help if you agree to never lock out a hold set from the app - Moon recently did this and it's annoyed a lot of people as it just looks like they are trying to do it to sell the new hold set. Anyway, you probably have done your market research, but that would be my feedback.
Hi Jackson, I did not lock the 2016 set up down to sell more holds, anyone who knows me would tell you that I don't work like that. I locked it down to make the MoonBoard even better. For a full update I would direct you to this press release we put out. All the best, Ben.
Hi Jackson, Thank you for the compliment. Glad you are psyched on your Kilter! On your other point - we appreciate that it is frustrating to have to change something, but Moon Climbing, like every other climbing hold company and most other climbing brands you probably see and like, is not some huge corporation bent on screwing the little guy to milk people of their money. Ben is a legend in the climbing scene and he's chosen to give back to climbing in many ways that have helped the sport grow including revolutionizing international board training. Sometimes tools need an upgrade, and as the leader of a responsible company, Ben Moon is making those upgrades to make his product the best it can be. If it were 2x the price it'd probably still be worth it for what he has built and what it provides to people who use it.
@MoonClimbing Is there a way you could keep 2016 locked to uploading new problems, but still allow people to save problems they make up locally on their own phones?
Would you shoot pictures? I cannot figure out how the hinges at the bottom support the weight, or how the winch distributes the tension at the top to avoid twisting when climbing.
Hey Matt, we put a row of big hinges across the bottom and use a 5000 pound car winch run off a deep cycle battery to move it. When we set it down onto the chains when we climb on it and it never moves enough that you notice.
We should note that we DO NOT OFFICIALLY RECOMMEND this or any other a method of making your own adjustable wall. Several wall companies make or will be making adjustable set ups soon that you can purchase. If you make your own adjustable board, please consult relavent experts and make sure whatever you use to support it is structurally appropriate for the forces you will be applying.
Yes we saw them on Facebook maybe? Folks in several countries are currently experimenting with LEDs in holds, and of course Walltopia did that whole light-up gym at their headquarters.
Perhaps it is time to do some digging. I just wonder if the integrity of translucent holds would vary compared to the tradition polymers used. Anyway, thanks for the feedback and best of luck with the item.
There are several types of PU that are clear and only are colored in the holds you see because of pigment, so I would expect the material integrity to be the same with clear vs opaque.
You prefer the Moon Board? Moon Boards are great, Ben's a friend of ours and there's nothing quite like the original Board system, never will be. I'm curious though, when did you come by and climb on ours? was it last Saturday? I was out of the shop for a bit and maybe you came by then?
I'm thinking of making a board that goes to 80, where the entire hold lights up, and it massages your nads while you climb
Interesting design.
Paul Robinson, your video are amazing. Please continue to inspire all of us

Great set up. The ergonomic holds are a major plus!
Awesome video as always! And the board looks insane 👍 Loved the 3rd thumb joke 😂
Looks so cool!!! I want to try one and close the lights :)
I f with the light base . Finally someone tried . Lol
Wow this looks incredible. The light up holds are a great idea 👍🏽
Loving the edits Paul. Keep them coming 💪🔥
looks great! hopefully a gym near me will have one soon
This looks unbelievably good! Would love to get my mitts on one!
How far off completion is it?
Tom 🤓

Shot you back an email Dave!
Take my money, please and thank you. Can't wait until this gets released.

Thanks for the great video Paul!
Thanks for having us!
This is sick!!

Sounds like it's not for you.

Well, this comment aged like milk.
Which is your favourite board you've climbed on and why?
I love the kilter board!
You should try the tension board
Betalabs usa the tension board is rad too!
Looks so sweet! What are the holds made out of? I am curious as to what compound allows the holds to stay grippy/strong while still being clear for the lighted base.
Mike Pacaro they are made with standard climbing hold material which is why the set up is so revolutionary!
Wow, wasn't expecting that. Definitely something to consider adding to the woody!
Yep, you can just move them and wash them like all your other holds.
How can I get my hands on one of these?
Kilter holds are dope, but they are expensive AF. Wonder how much their training board will cost in comparison to Moonboard. I have a few kilter holds on my home wall - they are so good, but could only afford about 6 or so.
How did you get just 6 grips? Shoot us an email and we'll get you a homewall discount on your next order. sales@kiltergrips.com

Does each hold have its own led built into the hold or is it backlite from the backside of the board
and shines through the clear section of the hold
It has lights in the back that shine through the clear part of the hold. Each hand hold has 2 led’s behind it
Do you have more video of the adjustment mechanism behind the wall?
no, but it is just a simple winch for a car!
Would you shoot pictures? I cannot figure out how the hinges at the bottom support the weight, or how the winch distributes the tension at the top to avoid twisting when climbing.
@@BrianKrienke next time i go there, I will get some shots. please hit me up on instagram so i can send you the images.
I want one
can you change the holds?
Yep. They are bolted on just like any other hold. You could put them wherever you like!
Any way you guys could share how you made the wall adjustable?
I believe they use a car jack on chains.

When will this training board be available? I am a Employee in a gym in Austria and I try to convince my boss to wait for this board to come out ;-)
Thanks Tobias! What is your email? Let's get them some more info!
Wow! Looks like such a cool board! Basically a miles better version of what the moon board is trying to be
any thoughts 4 years later?
Awesome video ! #FloridaCrew
Do translucent holds exist with embedded LEDs?
Yes but that is not what these are.
Lol, I see that. I wasn't sure if they existed. Thanks for the info!
Yes we saw them on Facebook maybe? Folks in several countries are currently experimenting with LEDs in holds, and of course Walltopia did that whole light-up gym at their headquarters.

Whats the price?
i think around 8000 for the holds and lights
so uh a moonboard? Not trying to give you guys shit ;) I like competetition
"It was kinda crazy because a steeper inclination made the holds worse!" Oh no, really? Who would have thought... Personally prefer the Moonboard.
