If you're a service tech (plumber, hvac, electrician, etc) working in a small place or working on a piece of equipment, 700 lumens is MORE than adequate. When you're a service tech all you want is good light in a small package that won't die on you when you're in a crawl space or force you to go back to the van to get something else. This light is perfect for that and I think that was their intent.
I use my M12 rover light everyday and love it. I’m an electrician. Working above drop ceilings. Lighting up small rooms. Lighting up the general area where I’m working. Or when I’m on a scissor lift. It works all day and then some. The run time and lumens is great. Magnetically sticks to any steel around. And fits in my tool bag perfectly. Well worth every penny.
@@curbysquad agreed. Maybe 3 modes, like add an extra maybe 1400 lumesn mode that lasts 4 hours on top of what’s on the product, but what’s offered isn’t terrible
For auto mecanic its perfect most light are in the 400 lumen so 700 lumen is great even the 250 lumen mode is enough and you can leave it on all work day One good light is the astro its really slim and fully adjustable brightness but the battery life suck and you can't swap them so it useless is less than 4 hours at max 410 lumen
No magic number for lumens is required by task but if you are wanting a light that will provide light for extended periods of time, put away your pocket flashlight and hang the Rover with an XC battery. You're way off on this rant.
You're spot on here. There is such thing as too much light and Milwaukee has a winner here. I will use the hell out of this under the dash of a car or under a sink where too much light will just make glare unbearable, and a smaller/brighter flashlight that gets hot and chews through batteries is impractical for extended periods of work. Vince even said in this very video that trying to be good at too many things means you wont be very good at one. This light is very good at it's intended design purpose, and other lights are very good for their intended design purpose.
@Sid The sloth yup I agree. I have tons of Dewalt but also a bunch of Milwaukee. Love the M12 Milwaukee stuff but like the Dewalt 20v over all of milwaukees 18v stuff. I have plenty of HF as well wrenches and what not
My pocket light has 1200 lumen peak and honestly magnetizing it to something and turning it on that bright is almost too much. I personally think 700 is the sweet spot for eye strain, run time, heat, and visibility
@@brandonle4930 the run time is weird because it automatically attenuated down after 5 minutes, i was mentioning an olight warrior mini in this comment if you care to look it up
@@brandonle4930 yeah the light I carry is really small, I use it in a pinch mostly. When I’m gonna need it for a long time in one spot I have an M12 rocket light, and the larger m12 rover. Highly recommend both
1200 out of a little pocket light sounds awesome but watching Torque Test Channel's flashlight light output tests have got me questioning every manufacturer lumen and runtime claim lol shits downright sad at times.
Yo Vin. 1100 lumens is to bright in an engine compartment. It blinds you bouncing off bare metal or your tools. This light rocks for automotive and heavy equipment repair. Specialized light.
. Also it was designed for automotive use. It’s will get turn on at the beginning of the day and won’t get shut off until the end of the day. I have the 1100 lumen light and it’s nice but won’t last all day without a battery swap or charge.
@@legros731 Of course it isn't useful for job site lighting. Why are people trying to compare this to an M18 Rocket light? It is designed for small spaces, not to light up your entire job site. That is like asking why Milwaukee makes an M12 compact cut off tool when tools like a 10" table saw or a 12" dual bevel sliding compound miter saw will have a much better cutting capacity. You're missing the entire purpose of the tool.
@@jossegewow how did a write this lol Don't know what a was thinking A love this light i use it everyday at work I am a mechanic no need to light big area
Ok so I'm not a pro mechanic but I work on enough of my own stuff and other peoples stuff that laymen call me a mechanic. I have 2 of these lights. Stick these suckers on a hood at night and its great. Just don't push them past a 3.0ah slim battery. Magnet feels just a little weak to me with the bigger stuff attached. Ill either pick up another or see what comes out next when I can see the new milwaukee auto light with the arm in the wild.
Alright Vince, I can personally say I am pumped about this light. Most of your expertise is in the construction field, NOT so much the car accessory field. I install remote starts all day through winter. I currently use the 550 lumen 4V Rover, but battery changing is a pain. The higher lumen lights are too big for under a dash and you need a light this size to coordinate placement while working. Flashlights are too narrow a field for use and can't be set down. I think your opinion is narrowed to your field. Keep it up though, love how critical you are!
Thats true if you are an inspector less than 2 hours runtime is fine because is periodically when u using it, but in the field the battery accomplish the 8 hrs of work
yes..it has USB charging but its not designed to be the primary charger for a phone....its just to get you some battery life if you dont have your primary charger with you...its a convenience feature....700 lumens is plenty for a work light...i use the 445 lumen.rover pocket light every day at work and its more than enough...more lumens = higher price and more battery drain
It's a real awesome light. Perfect balance of lumens, run time, convenience. And the design is awesome when you are in a confined space and you need to leave it on the ground, you pivot it upwards. Super nice light. Depends if it's the right light for you that is all! Try lighting up your work area with your flashlight and work with both hands.
love this light , use it for everything I seem to grab it for about everything I do lately. home inspections, BBQing, walking the property , working on car. LOVE IT !!
I have been waiting for this light. I am happy with what I see so far, can’t wait to get my hands on it. I am a field service tech and do a lot of work with the power off so I need a lite like this so when I am testing inside a cabinet I can see what I am doing. I don’t want to hold a flashlight the whole time I want something I can magnet to the box and go to work and not have to worry about the battery for the time I am working. Also I am buying a light not a cell changer so the 2.1 usb is just a bonus. I think I will be happy with it when I can finally get one.
Something I forgot. I consider this a task light so for me working in a large disconnect or a transformer 700 lumens is perfect or say for a plumber under a sink in a cabinet it’s plenty. If I need light for the job I will grab one of my other 5 large Milwaukee lights to light up the work area
Ive got one, its awesome. Only thing missing was a hanger/bracket. I made one, it sticks to the magnet giving an infinite amount od adjustment angles. Its awesome!
I used it couple of times working on car engine, so I stick it to the hood and it's light's up the whole engine area. I love this light using wery often.
As an HVAC service tech i really love this light, i can easily hang it on ductwork and point it into air handlers in customers dark dank basements, the swivel is great
I work as an industrial electrician and I'd rather have a light that ran all day than one that burned ultra bright. If I need mega, mega bright light on one spot I'll just get my headtorch. I can't use a flashlight while I work because I need both hands and I need the light where my hands are, not shining on the back of my head. I dont want to have to run through batteries all day. I really want them to update the M18 rover with newer LED's so I can buy it. I'm hoping that's what is next on their list. Being able to tell the difference between brown, black and blue is important to me, mainly so I dont blow up panels. The older guys on site genuinely struggle if they have a bad colour light as their eyes are past their prime.
I got this light a month ago and I agree with Ken. This light works great for working on panels and close work in dark areas. It’s not bright on high and can run all day with 4.0. Haven’t used the charger and didn’t buy it for that so it’s just a bonus. I see what your saying about utilizing the faster charger but since it has Milwaukee’s name on it, it would cost more for that feature. Considering the price of there other M12 small light options I think it is a great light that fits in my bag and is not so bright it gives me a headache after a days work.
Yup what i came down to when i bought this today...i wanted a portable light that i can take to work but not so large like the 4000lumen flood light or the 1500lumen rover light that thats double the size and price and cant really put in my back pocket of my high viz vest...this fit the bill for sure
We have livestock and I keep mine on my back door (steel door and it’s magnetic) and if I have to run outside in the middle of the night , I can grab it and go . I’m about to buy another one for my front door . I love this thing !
This has to be the first time I disagree. Im a plumber and this light is absolutely perfect. Yeah the flash light is bright but it wont give you all day run time and getting it in a spot to keep the area lit without falling is impossible. The fact you can orient this light any which way with all day run time on high and it doesnt bother the eyes for 59 bucks is incredible. Fits perfect in my pro pac also.
I bought this light at home depot last week on sale for 50 bucks. I like it! I used to make up 2x4 leds. I would use the magnet to hang on the wooden mending plates and tilted it down on the work area. Not too bad👍
This is my most used Milwaukee light. Although I will light a large room with it when the power goes out, I mostly use it at work, which is outdoors. Maybe you could post a video of how you mount that flashlight on a tractor to light the engine, or accessories you have behind the tractor? It attaches well to anything, and provides a perfect amount of light for one or two people working alone. Anything bigger is burning power that you just don’t need
When working under the hood, working under the vehicle while it’s jacked up, even just changing the tire this light has been AMAZING. Don’t get me wrong bigger is always better, but 700 lumens lights up my entire front yard. I find I’m using it on low for most tasks when the light is 2-6 feet from my work. Personally, I love huge lumen ratings, but I refuse to use them if they kill my battery. For instance my Olight can do 1,600 lumens for two minutes. Then the battery steps down the run time significantly. I rarely ever use the highest mode because I’m not interested in draining the battery in a matter of minutes. 8 hours of runtime on 70” lumens is mind blowing to me. Lights up a medium sized room, and 8 hours is a long time. I couldn’t be happier with this light.
This is one of my most used tools. It's brilliant, and my only gripe is that I wish it could swivel more and also tilt. If they did that I'd buy another two. If I need more light, I bring a bigger light.
Its $59 bucks brand new. Too critical here. Sorry this is excellent. The m12 flood light is a 1000. The rocket light is 1400 lumens. The m12 stick light with the metal hook on, is 350-400 lumens. So this is perfect. Strong ass magnet, super small, lightweight. Its for being in tight spaces where u no longer will need a stupid headlamp all the time and blind everyone u speak to. TY for the review VCG, u were just giving your honest review. That's why I subscribe to this channel.
One thing is that little light at 1100 lumens will over heat while the m12 will not I know they can go higher but there are trade offs in time and how long the light will last
Actually no, that little light wont overheat. Light emitting diodes (led's)let off very little heat, which is why they don't need the big heat sinks of other type luminary globes
@@stevematthews4092 at 1100 lumen it need heat sink led are pretty hot and the driver as well And this light got what max 2 hour run time its useless for continuous use
This is a good example of a carpenter looking at a mechanics tool. Kind of like if someone handed me a router. This is a solid contender because I have so many m12 batteries. I also don’t know how useful a flashlight is on my belt. He mentioned our hard earned money, did he happen to mention a price for this thing?
@@reddbeard2030 hey when you dont care about anything but making the most $, this is what happens. Sadly capitalism has its downfalls as well as its victories. if china didnt exist, it would have a lot less downfalls as nobody would be dumb enough to work for such little money. Cheap products wouldn't exist.
Yes, that is a very good idea. Charge your phone while charging your batteries. Better yet, the radios that can run on batteries and have a place for a phone/media player should all have usb ports that run off the battery for charging the device that you are using to listen to. Does this not make sense??. The few that do, only have it run on ac power and not battery. ???? I have the compact m12 radio and modded it and added usb ports in it for my media player etc. That is even more absurd that they don't.
Well im a Dewalt platform guy that sometimes wonders about Milwaukee fans having more money then sense for what they pay for many Milwaukee products. But I gotta say I was thinking right away what many of the commentors were saying which was the light is designed as a task light with long run time in mind. And a quality long running task light is pretty valuable for those that gotta work in the dark often especially in tight spaces. A lot of times a headlamp or flashlight just doesnt cut it. I love my Dewalt DCL044 task light for its capability and compact portability and this Milwaukee light looks like its a step up for the Milwaukee guys. Oh and to you Milwaukee guys, notice I said sometimes up top 😉 because I do think that Milwaukee makes some quality stuff. I Can also see however that if Vince is always breaking out that new Milwaukee tower light hes probably like ehh when he thinks about a little task light like this one.
Not sure I agree with you the rover is designed more for mechanics to light up a 5ft x 5ft area at at close range with out cords, hands free, and without taking up space like some of the bigger lights. Where as a flash light its designed not only to light up areas close to you but far away. Honestly you don't need 1100 lumens to light up an area close to you that is over kill. You need those lumens to light up far away. If you need that much light for close up get a big flood light. The flash light is not hands free so if you want to use both hands to work you have to lay it down or hold it in your mouth. I think it is more than adequate to do the job it was designed to do.
Honestly this would make for a good roadside tool it's compact enough for your car, it's bright enough to check your engine and underneath your car and it works with the M12 platform so if you only have 1 or 2 batteries you don't have to sweat.
This light has its purpose and is well suited for its intended purpose. For soft area lighting, I hang it inside a translucent bucket. I don’t use the usb charging , but nice to have it in case. I also have spots and flash lights that I use for their intended purposes. 2 totally different lights. I don’t understand the apples to oranges comparison.
You would think it would be twice as powerful as the pocket flashlight. Maybe they wanted to make the light a little more subtle because they figured it would be used in small tight spaces. Then again why not make it twice as bright and give it one more dimmer mode so you have that option. Not sure. That’s kind of a head scratcher.
I agree with the masses, working on cars or close to you where the light can be shifted around to improve the angle is great and too much light would be excessive and throw off night vision. You could move a brighter light further away but then you would have to get up from your work to move it for angle adjustment or to move to another area of the project.
Like others have said, it comes down to run time and the quality of the light output. This is a higher quality flood/area light vs your pocket light which is more of a point light. In regards to USB charging, I agree, USB C at full amps should be standard at this point. They should be looking to do what Skil has done and put a USB port on their batteries as well. Skil is somewhat lucky, they are (re)entering the cordless market with fresh standards and a clean drawing board, they don't have to drag legacy tools and batteries along like everyone else.
I'd hate there tp be a usb port on all their batteries. The batteries cost enough already and I'd worry about crap getting into the usb port and ruining the port and battery.
Brightness is one thing, light coverage is another. I have this rover light and a Milwaukee flashlight, 2 totally different ball games. I live in Oklahoma, we experience power outages whether it's from tornados, ice storms or wind, this rover light along with a few other Milwaukee M12 and M18 lights came in handy when we had a tornado do a lot of damage to homes and power lines surrounding me, this USB on the Rover light came in handy keeping our phones charged keeping in contact with family, that flashlight would've shown me where the toilet is but that's about it.
I like the light. Good true view is a big deal. And 700 lumens true view is impressive. However, as a mobile mechanic, I wish they had including m12 battery charging capabilities. So that I could ditch the compact charger and just bring this unit along.
I just received 2 of them and they are great Monday 1/11/2021 will be the first day on the job and with them I'll let you guy's know how they go but 700 lumens is crazy bright in a small 10x10x8 room they should work great
My next light this is what I want, I honestly think the Milwaukee true view makes a huge difference with wire and fiber color order. So that 700 equals other led 800 of 900 because of that true view
Like you need more than 700 lumens when you are working 2 or 3 ft away from it. It’s marketed as a hand held work light. That’s plenty bright. Not everything has to be 1000+ lumens
Bad rant. I think they got it right. You don't need over 1K lumens for task lighting. Not giving more light than needed and more battery life is what they were likely thinking. As soon as I see one on sale, I'll have it.
The advantage of the Milwaukee is when it dies, you can just swap a fully charged battery into it. You've got to wait for your little flashlight to charge before you can use it again. I don't think you're too critical though. They should've at least added a tiny Bluetooth speaker or something into this one; if they're gonna skimp on the lumens and no rapid charging, they need something else in it.
Seriously love this light. Someone yanked it from me on a job site and ended up buying an m18 rover. Wish I bought a second m12 rather than the heavier m18
I think your a bit rough on it.. I’m an auto tech and think it will come in very handy all lights have a use i have allot of different lights for different situations
I agree I tried to light up my whole backyard to work on my car last night and its horrible as a site light. DUH?!?!? Damn light is very nice. Perfect for work light! I just bought another just in case the first one breaks. Its not a light up the whole garage.
Love your video Vince but let’s be real who needs 1000 lumins to look under your car or truck hood or under a kitchen sink? Ease up on Milwaukee there’s no sin in being practical
You should really look @ O-Lights headlights... so lightweight you'll hardly notice it's on your head and you can get 6 hours of runtime 500 lumens... plus you don't have to Lug anything around .. best light purchase I've ever made were my O-Light headlights no other brand comes close for a comparison... every Tradesman should own an O-Light headlight or two imo
@@BuffaloNickel9 I agree I have 4 olights(I'm a olight fan)that i use to inspect pipes and other items in dark places, but when it comes to doing repairs I want a light that is wider and more flexible
I feel like they were going for a WORK LIGHT. Like one that can run at max output for a full work shift. If they went to 1000 or 1100 lumens but sacrificed runtime. Then to get through the day you'd need a 6.0 or a few 4.0 ah. I have a pocket light that's 2800lumens but it only runs about 20 minutes at that output. Not very practical but it is nice having the output at times I suppose.
I have the usb rover and it only has 445 lumens. This M12 would be a big improvement. I already have a M12&M18 power source, so I don't need the usb charger
The only reason why I can think of why they did that is for a full shift light, and no overheating. I am a car electrician and that might be handy, not too strong, not too light, won't heat up when I can sometimes have it right beside my face and can some times need to be on for a long time in small dark places. But I totally agree with Vince, why they didn't do it future proof, like are they scared or they wanna us to buy that one and than another one?
Personally, (even at just 500 lumens) I prefer the pivoting head flashlight. It's really bright, has a high and low flood mode and very bright spot mode, remembers what mode you left it on when turned off, and a magnet at the base. The pivoting head feels nice and the flashlight feels solid.
I use this light at work. Milwaukee 2113-21 USB Rechargeable Pivoting Flashlight I work in a lot of confined spaces. Attics. Dark places. This light is way better than that light and has a magnet on the bottom. More compact. You have to check it out. Great flash light.
Youre right vince. It falls behind the avg when it comes to lighting output. But they're a tool specialist not lighting specialists.. just another offering for the brand addicts
Nope it a more mecanic oriented light like a lot of m12 products Most mecanic ligth are in the 400 lumen and don't even last 4 hours and you can't change the battery so you need 2 to go all day at work But it on the lift post for under light or under the hood
I picked up 2. Since the m12 doesn’t have as much juice in it I get not doing the fast charging capability. I agree with the lighting on it. It should be 1100 range for lumens but make it so when you turn it on and off it resumes the previous light setting.
Regardless of the connector on the end of the cable, the USB type A port USB 2.0, has a max amp output of 2.4, rarely is there a usb type A 3.0 port, which can do up to 3amp, usually has a green or blue or purple colored port where the usb 2 is white on the inside. A usb type C port on both ends, can go up to 20v 5amp 100w, if both devices support it, that is why many laptops can now use USB to charge. The adapter cable Vince used will work, but only at the 2.4 amps, meaning it will charge very slowly, if the device supports fast/quick charging, it will not provide enough power for that and it will charge ‘slow mode’. Something like an iPad Pro, it will not charge at all, as the iPad needs more than 2.4 amp just to run, so it still uses some of the battery when it is plugged in.
I have both and honestly it comes down to the Run time 8 hours for the rover vs 1.5 hours on the flashlight.. I’ll take both haha each serves there own purpose
It’s a work light, not a flashlight.... I would rather have the rover working under a sink, working on a car, lighting up a room, etc. Two different tasks. Looks like an awesome light to me. 700 lumens for that run time seems like a win to me.
I think raw output in lumens isn't as useful in a light that is supposed to illuminate a work area (like under a car for example) that is in close proximity, too much light just washes things out. I agree that they could have upgraded the usb port to provide more amperage.
Flood that’s not blinding and easy to position over 1200 lumen spot. I generate work above ceiling a couple hours a day and have spot bouncing off ceiling to diffuse this would work better and longer.
$50 on sale at Home Depot was a steal. Use 6 amp Whitley generic 6 A battery’s 2 for $35 and when we forget it at the job site we don’t cry. Now ,there up to $70 for tool and $70 for 6 amp Milwaukee battery $140 too expensive. $50 was a great price point for this light. We have 66 of these and there FANTASTIC! (But Milwaukee knows you’re gonna leave them in the rafters and up on a duck work )easy to carry in and could care less about the charge feature rather lower the price. Some guys charge a speaker off it and phone off the other lights. The magnet is 85% spot on, great for replacing electrical panels and repairs for furnaces. 700 luminaries is great for the runtime is what is key and the purpose. Never want to hold a flashlight again. Let’s the see if it last five years on a service truck. These are definitely or go to lights when we walk into a dark building or home and we can see you so we don’t trip and fall better than a flashlight.
Don’t see much for the usb part and 700 is plenty if your working on electrical panels and other security panels. 1100 would be way to bright I’m happy with the magnet pivot and 700

True the light is built in such a way that the expectation that it should be brighter is reasonable. The size of the light dictates where and how the light will be used. Do you really want 1000 or more lumens inside a cabinet or under a dash? The unit is plenty strong for how I intend to use it. Do I think that milwaukee released it, the way it is leaving room for improvements and a gen 2 ? Absolutely.
Diodes make heat, and they didn't put much heatsinking on these LEDs. It's just a think aluminum strip behind the LEDs. If they wanted to make it brighter they would have had to make the swivel head thicker and heavier. Potentially decreasing that swivel selling point for making them magnets not strong enough. Also it's a lot of run time, they definitely wanted to hit that magic 8 hour mark. Just my speculation, I bought it anyway lol. I'm sure I'll love it when I need it, but I agree it could be better. The port on the device is type A. The reason they didn't do a type-C port with power delivery is clearly cost. You can step down 12v to 5v and a phone will charge from it no question. But to get PD from a type-C requires circuitry and more R&D
I got plenty of single cell torches Never need enough light when working in crawl spaces! having a light go out under a 4500 sq foot house crawl space that sucked! So I make sure I got 2 lights with me one little torch and a bigger Milwaukee light when doing crawl space or attic work.
Wish it had some fold out hooks for hanging it. Also one of those suction things(smaller version) like the ones use for carrying glass windows would be nice to have on the back with those magnets
I think the point of this compared to a regular, brighter lumen flashlight is endurance. Not just the battery, but all those little LEDs are probably doing less work than that one big LED in that other light. So it oughta run cooler and longer whiteout having to lower it's output because the LED is getting too hot, and have a longer service life. That's what I'm assuming anyway. As far as the USB out? no arguments here.
Charging usbc is only faster which many times in not necessary as you may charge for a couple of hours anyway. 700 lumens is enough to light an area up to work in and will last longer. A flashlight is used as a more direct spot for brief applications and not long term use like a floodlight/worklight. This light will light up a wider area in closer proximity than a round one led/lens flashlight with a flood ability. They could have added a brighter mode which would be optional, but then you may not use it anyway once the 700 is more than enough to work with.
My favorite flashlight is still my m18 search light! I am tempted to buy another just because the one have is pretty worn because I use it so much... I just bought the packout charger light and really enjoy that as well it's just not something I want to carry around all day... But what I NEED is that red lithium pocket flashlight!!!
You're not being too critical. I have a LOT of lights, several Milwaukee. My daily "go-to" is a pair of Milwaukee USB Rechargeable Pivoting Flashlights. I have many others and I grab those more often than any other. I agree, I was hoping that a smallish M12 from Milwaukee would finally have plenty of lumens and this one misses the mark. I know the Pivot is only 500 (spot), but I frequently use it on low flood which is only 100! When I need more light I use 2500 and 3000 lumen lights for "real" work. But day-to-day for tasks I've been surprised that 2 Pivots cover a lot of situations.
I can tell you what the purpose of the light is; FOR ME AT LEAST LOL. So when I wire or troubleshoot a controls/electrical panel, I mounted it to the door of the panel, and I have perfect light. The thing that turns 110 degrees is the best. Also, the 700 lumens are enough for this purpose because I tried more powerful lights and things started to be shiny.
Just a thought but seems the intended use for this light is small spaces where there is such a thing as too much light? So they're making the brightest possible light thats "usable" and while doing so increasing run time...just a thought 🤔???
Spot on Vince. Purchsedr M18 light a few years ago. Now they finally, came out with what I wanted. Dual power supply support. Will not make the jump till price comes down.
So right I’m gonna wait on this, I like usb-a better then c for sturdiness but for 60 bucks 3.0 and a higher brightness option isn’t asking for much a hook and key hole option would be nice too
I would not want to paint walls or finish Sheetrock with a hand held fleshlight. To many lumens have a tendency to make imperfections look invisible. I for one will be purchasing one if not 2. Great video brother.

I love mine as you I’m an electrician and works great for me 👍🏽
Its only 700 lumens, but its 700 lumens for 8 HOURS! Thats what they were thinking.
This is the correct answer

One good light is the astro its really slim and fully adjustable brightness but the battery life suck and you can't swap them so it useless is less than 4 hours at max 410 lumen
8 hours is not that long for a tiny work light though... if it was 1,500-2,000 lumens and 8 hours sure thats impressive
No magic number for lumens is required by task but if you are wanting a light that will provide light for extended periods of time, put away your pocket flashlight and hang the Rover with an XC battery. You're way off on this rant.
soooo many Milwaukee fanboys in this comment section its hilarious 😂 your biased opinions mean nothing guys when will you realize that?
You're spot on here. There is such thing as too much light and Milwaukee has a winner here. I will use the hell out of this under the dash of a car or under a sink where too much light will just make glare unbearable, and a smaller/brighter flashlight that gets hot and chews through batteries is impractical for extended periods of work. Vince even said in this very video that trying to be good at too many things means you wont be very good at one. This light is very good at it's intended design purpose, and other lights are very good for their intended design purpose.
“Rant…” well put. Dudes freaking annoying asf and uninformative.
@Sid The sloth Snapon fanboys like mr suburu are theeee worst. Snapon is an American embarrassment
How long does your 1200 lumen battery last? 1.5 hours?
@@brandonle4930 the run time is weird because it automatically attenuated down after 5 minutes, i was mentioning an olight warrior mini in this comment if you care to look it up
I care more about the runtime since I needed a work light that can last me over 4 hours
@@jossegewow how did a write this lol
Don't know what a was thinking
A love this light i use it everyday at work
I am a mechanic no need to light big area
I just picked one up at home depot with the same thought process and agree with you fully brother
The 1100 lumen flashlight will only run for 1.75 hours. The rover light is much better for a 8 hour shift day. Or even 24 hours on low!
Exactly. That’s the whole point. You’re flashlight is not enough for task lighting, it’s for spotlighting and highlighting areas for a short time.
This look great for mecanic stick it under hood or on the lift post and boom instant light and it can be aimed
And you can charge your usb light right on the rover. Pretty handy
Thats true if you are an inspector less than 2 hours runtime is fine because is periodically when u using it, but in the field the battery accomplish the 8 hrs of work
Ive had two for 3 years. Its my favorite all around light ever. Mechanic work, camping, etc. Its amazing
yes..it has USB charging but its not designed to be the primary charger for a phone....its just to get you some battery life if you dont have your primary charger with you...its a convenience feature....700 lumens is plenty for a work light...i use the 445 lumen.rover pocket light every day at work and its more than enough...more lumens = higher price and more battery drain
I’m team Milwaukee 💯 all the way and completely agree on your criticism
This light is awesome for automotive repairs especially suspension and under body repairs / mods. Construction guys i cant speak for.
I build out sprinter vans for a living, this thing has become priceless in day to day use, especially working under the vans.
@Sid The sloth I just picked one up last month, it's great. Only thing I plan on making it better is making a hanging hook for the magnet.
Spend more time in crawlspaces bro, I just ordered one of these and 8 hrs is awesome.
Hello crawlspace brother. Lol
Yes, I am getting in a crawlspace soon again. I am getting mine today from CPO outlets 12/23.
@@stevematthews4092 at 1100 lumen it need heat sink led are pretty hot and the driver as well
And this light got what max 2 hour run time its useless for continuous use
This is a good example of a carpenter looking at a mechanics tool. Kind of like if someone handed me a router. This is a solid contender because I have so many m12 batteries. I also don’t know how useful a flashlight is on my belt. He mentioned our hard earned money, did he happen to mention a price for this thing?

Yes, that is a very good idea. Charge your phone while charging your batteries. Better yet, the radios that can run on batteries and have a place for a phone/media player should all have usb ports that run off the battery for charging the device that you are using to listen to. Does this not make sense??. The few that do, only have it run on ac power and not battery. ???? I have the compact m12 radio and modded it and added usb ports in it for my media player etc. That is even more absurd that they don't.
@@ariip Makes plenty sense/ cents to me.
I'm with you.
Perfect to go with all my other mechanic
M12 tool
Honestly this would make for a good roadside tool it's compact enough for your car, it's bright enough to check your engine and underneath your car and it works with the M12 platform so if you only have 1 or 2 batteries you don't have to sweat.
I’ve got one in both of my semi trucks. Perfect light for pretrip and road side repairs imo.
I use my rover daily and love it for work in tight spaces when doing machine repair.
Not everything has to be 1000+ lumens
puchased one a couple of days ago for a commercial vehicle shop so far its been AWESOME!
They should've at least added a tiny Bluetooth speaker or something into this one; if they're gonna skimp on the lumens and no rapid charging, they need something else in it.
the m12 rover light is a fantastic light..I use it so often..even magnet it to the top of my ice fishing pop up..love the thing
I could have really used this light for working under my car last week when i had a broken evap valve.
As mechanic. I love this light. Use it everyday
Seriously love this light. Someone yanked it from me on a job site and ended up buying an m18 rover. Wish I bought a second m12 rather than the heavier m18
Man I hate guys that steal your tools that's a death sentence on the oil sands. Sorry this happened to you.
I think it's a great light for working on cars. Definitely buying
I think they kept it only 700 lumens only because it’s meant for closer quarters like under a vehicle or under the hood.
I think your a bit rough on it.. I’m an auto tech and think it will come in very handy all lights have a use i have allot of different lights for different situations
My go to light for emergencies and great for work and automotive and emergency charger phone or when power goes out great tool Milwaukee
I have one of those things. I think it's crazy! Very bright and runs for like 30 hours or something. Also it rapid charges your phone.
Milwaukee 2113-21 USB Rechargeable Pivoting Flashlight
I work in a lot of confined spaces. Attics. Dark places. This light is way better than that light and has a magnet on the bottom. More compact. You have to check it out. Great flash light.
Youre right vince. It falls behind the avg when it comes to lighting output. But they're a tool specialist not lighting specialists.. just another offering for the brand addicts
Nope it a more mecanic oriented light like a lot of m12 products
Most mecanic ligth are in the 400 lumen and don't even last 4 hours and you can't change the battery so you need 2 to go all day at work
But it on the lift post for under light or under the hood
I find its pretty bright because it brightens a wider area then my super bright flashlight. I agree the USB C should be standard
I love that Light😍 places I go don’t need a great big light🧐
Right
It’s a work light, not a flashlight.... I would rather have the rover working under a sink, working on a car, lighting up a room, etc. Two different tasks. Looks like an awesome light to me. 700 lumens for that run time seems like a win to me.
Yes he is literally blinded by the lumen number and can't see the use for this light
1100 would be way to bright I’m happy with the magnet pivot and 700
I’ve made several of these with a step down converter, cob led strip light with a full heat sink and battery pack, adapter for as little as $18.

Absolutely.
I was beginning to think you were a milwaukee sell out....my hat is off to you sir.
Nice job.
Depends on what your using it for, but it was aimed at the auto repair industry, and as a automotive technician its works for me.
I love mine so much as a mechanic I have three
Vince you hit the nail on the head. Milwaukee went soft and purposely left features off for gen 2.
In this case the light is great, my beef would be Milwaukee using this to replace the M12 Rocket light led, 4 amp battery lasts 3hrs 20 min
I got plenty of single cell torches
Never need enough light when working in crawl spaces! having a light go out under a 4500 sq foot house crawl space that sucked! So I make sure I got 2 lights with me one little torch and a bigger Milwaukee light when doing crawl space or attic work.
If they put more lumens it wouldn't last a full 8hr shift i think it's great and will be getting 1 tomorrow
Wish it had some fold out hooks for hanging it. Also one of those suction things(smaller version) like the ones use for carrying glass windows would be nice to have on the back with those magnets
I use it for elevator and escalator maintenance. It is absolutely perfect
This is the best small size battery powered light that Milwaukee has nailed …. No way people hate this light .
Thanks for mentioning how it should have came with a USB Type C.
My favorite flashlight is still my m18 search light! I am tempted to buy another just because the one have is pretty worn because I use it so much... I just bought the packout charger light and really enjoy that as well it's just not something I want to carry around all day... But what I NEED is that red lithium pocket flashlight!!!
I agree on the usb charging and ports. Micro USB and type B - why - use USB C!
I think the rover would be better under a sink. Like fixing a faucet. Try to stand up the 1100 stick light under a small cabinet.
