I don't know how far that will get them, I agree some people will just spam the button even when heals are not needed, I'll ask them not to spam it, failing that I will just not heal them. But I must say that in game call for a heal is so much help if you need heals and to get my attention, The sound cue in the voice of the char and the border they get is 100% more helpful than random voice with the mic in their mouth asking for a heals.

That's exactly the point. It's really strange this guy is Diamond and nobody can understand how that happened. My theory would be that he likely 6-stacks with a stronger team sometimes and they carry him.
I was Gold once (2 weeks approximately before this video) and I gotta say, having 5 gold medals (yeah including heal :D) and POTG is not that difficult :) People generally tend to move and cooperate better in higher ranks like Diamond, which makes Roadhog's job waaaay more difficult... still I played badly this game I know, that's why I sent it to Sty :)
29:41 He has the enemy roadhog stuck in the earthshatter on 5 health and instead of finishing him off with melee, he reloads and allows him to escape. That would have significantly swung the outcome of the fight. This misplay was bigger than any of the wasted hooks.
I see a lot of people trying to "roast" this roadhog, in my opinion this is the equivalent of people yelling at the TV while watching sports games saying. "You should have done this you idiot!" well, it's much easier saying what they should have done/making fun of them while watching the video than actually doing that in game. When you're playing your mind doesn't fully focus on the actions of yourself, it's partial towards focusing on the positioning of your teammates, where your enemy is, and finally- what you should be doing. So saying this guy is "dog shit" or "garbage" isn't necessarily fair. This is why you should do like what sty does and actually record yourself so you can criticize your work and improve yourself, but if this guy is wanting another person's set of eyes to review his games, we shouldn't be overly critical/rude towards him. Let's give some tips and kind suggestions so we can have a ton of great, kind players up here in Grandmasters! :) Cheers!

a tip for landing the hook: its like a delayed hitscan. from the moment roadhog reaches out with his arm, its so fast that you pretty much hit where you aim in that moment. so dont predict so much but rather track your enemies from the moment you press till the hook lands.
A player should have mad skills with his "Main hero".. Its not enough to just play him a lot to call him your main I think... especially when you are diamond and play like a gold xD but again, maybe you just had a bad round.....
What I've learned from multiple RUclips Overwatch players is that you need to track the enemy when you're aiming the hook. The hook is not a projectile and is considered "delayed hit scan". Track the enemy as if you're playing Soldier, Tracer or Sombra, and you will land more hooks! Also, I have found that faster movements with the mouse while trying to hook as opposed to being too careful and too precise when throwing the hook is better. Be fast with the movement while tracking the enemy!

Hey, just want to say thanks for the advice videos. After watching them and practicing in quick play for awhile, I went back to competitive yesterday and brought my score 2199 (my career high at the time) to 2704 by today and hope to get to 3000 before the season end. It may not be an amazing score, but I never thought I'd get out of gold, so I'm happy.
*Fandom Overlord* - I'm from the future and Jeff released some percentages on competitive ranks this month. Gold is the average rank, which is 32% making it the most populated. (If I'm not mistaken in that percentage that is.)
As somebody who plays a lot of roadhog, It's okay to use your ults alot. You get it back incredibly fast. His ult is one you can use very liberally. It's a fine thing to use to finish fights.
I love your coaching series, because even if I don't play this specific hero I can still learn something about the map and positioning. Maybe one day I'll encourage myself to send one of my matches haha :D

Tip for Roadhog hook accuracy: Use the smaller circle crosshair, which IMO makes it easier to land hooks, and also makes it easier to one shot people both with right click and after hook. You just have to place the small circle in the middle of the squishies body after hook, and a little higher on the tanks, to do max damage.

its really disappointing with the amount of rude comments. Insulting people is not necessary, I'm sure a lot of you guys respect the guy who send this video in! this guy obviously just wants to improve your game, so keep it up!
The only think I don't like about these videos is how much you pause them. Like you crisis this player for going down the steps for a hook and pause it for 30 sec then he dose it again and you do the same thing. And when he does it a again you say it like you are trying to tell a kid not to touch a stove because it's hot then he will go and do it anyway. Repeat this process with different scenarios for the whole video and you turn a 10 min game into a 30 min game where you just say the same things over and over again. Advise: First time someone does something wrong pause and elaborate. Then the next few times they do it keep the video playing and just have a quick mention of it. To me it seems like you forget these are pre-recorded and when you say something once you expect it to be changed all game.
A tip for Herowar (you already mentioned it) Aim your hooks more carefully. If you put some effort into aiming your hooks, you will hit a lot more of them. Take your time and aim them carefully.
I kinda have to disagree with Sty here: Roadhog isn't a flanker. It's always better to stay with your team. Only when you know you're in a safe position and can return to your team quickly without really exposing yourself to enemy fire, is flanking with Roadhog a good idea.
Do you have as much fun making these videos as i do watching them? This series teaches me a lot about how to play and you've made my Zarya and Rein game exponentially better. If you have a choice in the matter please do one on Mcree please

Piisami Potta *face palm* did you even listen to the intro? he said explicitly that this was not a great game from him and you know why he sent it in? it's cause he wanted to see all the things he could do to improve and the best way to do that is by picking a match where he didn't play that well.
Persistence my friend :) And I play Hog 90% of the time (change for Rein or Lucio if needed), only Solo Q, with 57%+ winrate. This game is one of my worst actually and that's why I sent it to Sty.
The reason you have "bad accuracy" (and you've even acknowledged it) is because you are firing where are target is rather than where they are going to be. Lead your shots. Lead your hooks and you will notice your Roadhog game become much more viable. Just an added note: remember you can adjust your aim while you throw your hook and this is what makes it so broken.
18:53. As a roadhog main (solo q, diamond) I can understand why he did that. I usually like to make prediction hooks, like when the rein is about to Fite strike / shield break.
In reference to this video, yeah, this Roadhog has to really work on their hooks. Not only did they miss most of them, but they didn't even get kills on most of the ones they landed, their team finishing off the few that did die. Playing 3v3 with Roadhog helped me a lot in hook accuracy. No payloads or points to capture/contend, just pure fishing. And always remember the Hog VS Hog surefire tactic. Goad them into hooking you, take the hit so you can fire a pointblank shot into them, then hook them and fire again with aid from the stun. I haven't lost a Hog battle in ages.
One nitpick about what Sty said in this video. If you can't kill with roadhogs melee don't do it. For whatever reason if you fire melee fire there is an insanely long cooldown on the second shot. On beefier targets it's better to go for a second primary fire than it is to try to melee.

At 15:20 or so, I would've said get that Soldier in hook range and take him out, then I saw the rein round the corner, so it's a moot point in that situation. I do think that Sty missed out on mentioning Roadhog's third job, which is to look out for the people who grab the high ground and punish them for it, otherwise they'll punish your team for letting them get the high ground, it was touched upon, but McCree wasn't the only one who could stop it. The high ground is great for McCree, Roadhog, Phara, 76 and Bastion, (not to mention the snipers, but they're not generally your job) it gives them free range on the enemy, but it also puts them out in the open, where you can hook them into your team and make their job harder.

Tip for Roadhog hook accuracy: Use the smaller circle crosshair, which IMO makes it easier to land hooks, and also makes it easier to one shot people both with right click and after hook. You just have to place the small circle in the middle of the squishies body after hook, and a little higher on the tanks, to do max damage.

Hook tips: See an enemy, wait a few secs before hook, predict where they will go and click that hook.
its really disappointing with the amount of rude comments. Insulting people is not necessary, I'm sure a lot of you guys respect the guy who send this video in! this guy obviously just wants to improve your game, so keep it up!
The only think I don't like about these videos is how much you pause them. Like you crisis this player for going down the steps for a hook and pause it for 30 sec then he dose it again and you do the same thing. And when he does it a again you say it like you are trying to tell a kid not to touch a stove because it's hot then he will go and do it anyway. Repeat this process with different scenarios for the whole video and you turn a 10 min game into a 30 min game where you just say the same things over and over again.
Advise: First time someone does something wrong pause and elaborate. Then the next few times they do it keep the video playing and just have a quick mention of it. To me it seems like you forget these are pre-recorded and when you say something once you expect it to be changed all game.
That last ult was actually good, you kept the enemies away from the payload, winning the game. Sty was definitely wrong, which I'm sure he'll admit.

Aim your hooks more carefully. If you put some effort into aiming your hooks, you will hit a lot more of them. Take your time and aim them carefully.

I kinda have to disagree with Sty here: Roadhog isn't a flanker. It's always better to stay with your team. Only when you know you're in a safe position and can return to your team quickly without really exposing yourself to enemy fire, is flanking with Roadhog a good idea.

Persistence my friend :) And I play Hog 90% of the time (change for Rein or Lucio if needed), only Solo Q, with 57%+ winrate. This game is one of my worst actually and that's why I sent it to Sty.

The reason you have "bad accuracy" (and you've even acknowledged it) is because you are firing where are target is rather than where they are going to be. Lead your shots. Lead your hooks and you will notice your Roadhog game become much more viable.
Just an added note: remember you can adjust your aim while you throw your hook and this is what makes it so broken.

18:53. As a roadhog main (solo q, diamond) I can understand why he did that. I usually like to make prediction hooks, like when the rein is about to Fite strike / shield break.
In reference to this video, yeah, this Roadhog has to really work on their hooks. Not only did they miss most of them, but they didn't even get kills on most of the ones they landed, their team finishing off the few that did die. Playing 3v3 with Roadhog helped me a lot in hook accuracy. No payloads or points to capture/contend, just pure fishing. And always remember the Hog VS Hog surefire tactic. Goad them into hooking you, take the hit so you can fire a pointblank shot into them, then hook them and fire again with aid from the stun. I haven't lost a Hog battle in ages.
One nitpick about what Sty said in this video. If you can't kill with roadhogs melee don't do it. For whatever reason if you fire melee fire there is an insanely long cooldown on the second shot. On beefier targets it's better to go for a second primary fire than it is to try to melee.

At 15:20 or so, I would've said get that Soldier in hook range and take him out, then I saw the rein round the corner, so it's a moot point in that situation. I do think that Sty missed out on mentioning Roadhog's third job, which is to look out for the people who grab the high ground and punish them for it, otherwise they'll punish your team for letting them get the high ground, it was touched upon, but McCree wasn't the only one who could stop it. The high ground is great for McCree, Roadhog, Phara, 76 and Bastion, (not to mention the snipers, but they're not generally your job) it gives them free range on the enemy, but it also puts them out in the open, where you can hook them into your team and make their job harder.
