- The Generation ship Vanguard, originally destined for "Far Centaurus", is cruising without guidance through the interstellar medium as a result of a long-ago mutiny that killed most of the officers. Over time, the descendants of the surviving loyal crew have forgotten the purpose and nature of their ship and lapsed into a pre-technological culture marked by superstition.
First aired 15th May, 1955, on X Minus One - a science fiction radio series broadcast from 1955 to 1958 on NBC Radio - Развлечения
I use to collect this series. Other Heinlein stories adapted by X Minus One were "The Roads Must Roll," "Requiem," and "The Green Hills of Earth."

Yeah... they got quite a few ideas from Heinlein. Simak too
Based on Orphans Of The Sky by Robert Heinlein.
Also recommended Non-Stop by Brian Aldiss..
"you can't keep the truth from the people."................
A great story. The allegory of man on the spaceship Earth. We could work together to man this ship and sail it together to a destiny of freedom and open thought, or dogmatic theologies could foster division, closed mindedness and doom our race to labor in darkness and ignorance.
Uh, no. The men of the upper levels - physically twisted but sound of mind - thought like you did and it got them all killed. What they should have done is work to exterminate the idiots in the lower levels.
Apparently neither of you has ever actually read the story that this radio play was based on. It ended nothing like this. Hugh ended up on a planet, free of the primitive, dogmatic society of the ship. This was no allegorical tale of the oppressor and oppressed. No fanciful yarn to tell you to rise up.
This, as were Most of Heinlein's tales, was about a young man deciding to follow his own path and refusing to compromise his ideals to conform. A young man using logic and understanding the evidence of his senses, not just following the dogmas set before him.
This one had a good story, but I can't be the only one who thought it sounded like a comedy satire. There were times when the actors seemed so sarcastic, and when they started using office supplies for sound effects I started laughing. Like an SNL skit. Don't get me wrong, I've listened to thousands of radio dramas. The first seconds of the show it sounded like someone threw a pen across the room and it hit the wall and landed on the desk, and my imagination couldn't do anything with it.
Sounds familiar 🌍
Man, it gets to you
yes I agree With M.morgan, intelligent person like me, written on behalf of S.Samain,
That was some funny shanizel.
Why are you cutting off the opening credits? Very uncool.
Sounds just like an allegory to creationism. Just as fanatic
Blatant enough to hardly count as allegory 😄
Snowpiercer
