What a way to end 2019! A solution to a problem that I found out about many months ago! EVERY GMC Sierra Multi-Pro Tailgate needs this fix! I can't imagine banging a truck that costs so much money, but that's just me. 2020 is going to be bright, Can't wait to share more stories, you guys rock thank you for the support!
Hammer that subscribe button! :)
#Multipro #GMC #Sierra
Thanks for therr great content.
Just hit a Carbon Pro last night.
This was my largest concern when considering this truck.
THANKS!!!
So basically something that should be standard on this 60K truck
insane right? I still don't understand why GM let this truck leave the line without fixing this. These guys found the fix, GM should have done it from the very beginning.
@@Cody_Reed said it from the day my buddy got his 19 Denali that gm could easily make a sensor in the receiver to fix this...guess I should have done some work and made it myself then! Great product
Can't sell more tailgates if they fixed this from the start...lol
I love how this is an issue from a year ago and gmc is still not making this fix standard on their new trucks. I just got a 2021 denali 2500 and just found out this is an issue.
Get yourself the fix man!
Great information I have a 2019 AT4 I have to get this what a lifesaver on the wallet I haven’t been stupid enough to do that but this is a sure fire way so I don’t LOL just another FYI my AT4 is a short bed but when using that all pro tailgate backstop when the gate is down regular standard 2x4s do not fit lengthwise in the bed its short by a couple inches it’s one of those things that they don’t tell you I probably could done a little bit more research. It’s not a dealbreaker The trucks amazing just was a bummer when I tried it.
Guess i shouldve hopped on my idea wen I thought of it the day they released the video of the tailgate. Oh well lol
Gotta follow through man! It's a great need for a bigger problem!
That’s awesome
GMC BETTER FIX THIS SHIT!!!😶 Glad, I now know. Thanks for video about this.💯
GAAAAAH!! Love trucks too 😂
How do I order this product for my tailgate
Tailgatefix.com
Where to buy? Cost?
Tailgate fix.com they are always running specials!
Where is the recap?
Not really a fix to simply defeat the function of a truck.
This is not a fix it’s more like a bandage.
Hopefully GM gets the picture and hits these guys up
Ah, that's not a fix, that's just a warning, lmao. I would not buy this product. I would pay to customize the hitch receiver so it wouldn't hit first.
I have a better fix. Since this will most likely happen when NOT towing something, remove the hitch. Shouldn't be there unless towing anyhow. But this is a true head scratcher. You get heated seats, steering wheel, and ninja bullet juicer as standard features but not something that will stop damage.
It is illegal in most states to have a hitch installed when not towing
@@kodylaird9342 really? Georgia is ok . 🤔 I think so
This must be some attempt to fix stupid for the people that don't have enough brains to take the receiver out first.😩
@SultanofSpey Shouldn't be there unless towing, but it will help protect your bumper, especially the painted ones on the Denali and High Country, from parking lot dings from careless drivers. GM should have designed a tailgate with enough clearance at t looks like someone the beginning. To show that they don't care, 5 years later and the design is the same. The top of the gate could have been thinner, or even an inch shorter bed would go a long ways to correct this, they could relocate the mount for the receiver and bumper locations. I have 22 High Country 3500 SRW LB and it sits high enough that with the B&W hitch it will clear with the ball not stowed, unless it is set really high. I saw a truck a couple weeks ago that looked like someone took a sawsall and cut a U-Shaped notch. I don't know if it was damaged from hitting the hitch and modified, or modified first. A pretty good statement though.
i toe 4 to 8 times a year, come in late friends helping ,,,so I put it on new truck to prevent possible problem ,,,but it failed anyways
Can not believe this is such a big issue. Do you hit your door on your garage wall when opening your door or on a car next to you etc etc,,, why would not see you have your ball hitch in when opening your double GM tailgate.
Or… you could just use your eyes and look to see if you have a hitch on. …
Also, don't let anyone use your truck for moving.. lol
The B&W is so much simpler, the Tow and Stow for the multi- tailgate. I can't imagine having to remove the drawbar just to use that function of the tailgate, kinda defeats the convenience of having it in the first place.
This really is a great fix for a problem I didn’t know existed until i borrowed a friend’s truck. The first thing an acquaintance of mine did was to test the tailgate. Had the tailgate fix not been installed, a hitch was on, there would have been some damage. It works!
mine has failed three times ,,,DENTED TAIlGATE,,,,,,yes , pin installed correctly ,,,,,,,I have had three harnesses ,,,and three switches they have ALL failed ,,,,,,,cant handle salt etc ,,I have video of it malfunctioing ,,,,they dont even call back !
Gmc trucks are not cheat. I do not think I would cut, splice or do anything that would void the warranty. I think the company curt hitches has a plug n play system that disables the multipro tailgate. There is a video on youtube that shows installation of it.
Victor, check out Tailgate Fix.com they have a new model of this switch that doesn't require any cutting or splicing.
This is a cheap piece of plastic junk. I just had my second cover fall off. When it does the inner gate will not open. Curt said there was no bypass. Well just tape a magnet to the the plastic piece and it will close the circuit and the inner gate will open.
This is great! Now find a fix for the surround camera system when the tailgate is removed. GM does not have a fix for this problem except to buy an extra tailgate wiring harness and tailgate camera. Not only does the entire camera system not work when the tailgate is removed, but the infotainment system errors once you use the blinkers one time which means no navigation or music or anything. HUGE problem. We had to remove the wiring harness from the tailgate to complete the circuit so we could use our brand new 2020 3500 HD Denali with our slide-in truck camper. And when I contacted GM, they did not offer us anything. Dodge has a simple connecter that completes their circuit when their tailgate is removed. Obviously the engineers who designed this truck did not think consumers would use the truck as a truck. Tailgates have always been made to be removed. BIG disappointment in this otherwise neat design.
Yeah, I remember growing up everyone had their tailgates off while working.. its not something we see anymore.
What happens if you open the small gate first then drop the main tailgate?
Let’s say you put one of those receiver protecting covers on there or design cover that’s not gonna happen with this right ?
Yes I’d recommend the manual switch so you can turn it on and off
The biggest problem is that u have to take spare tire off in order to remove the tailgate. If u have a camper it makes it a pain in the butt. I'm having a quick disconnect made by my stereo guy to fix.
The one made by Curt takes longer to install but definitely seems like a better product all plug and play.
This and a couple other vids you have got me to sub.
Can you do one on exhaust for the 6.2L? None out there right now.
Barefield Project yes there is go to Borla
B&W has a receiver hitch that is designed to clear the MultiPro in the folded position. The 2-1/2” is in production for the HD and the 2" is coming.
2 inch now shipping. Just ordered one. Been waiting since january.
Not really a fix It just prevent you from being a dummy and getting a big dent in your tailgate. I was so excited when I started this video I thought I was going to figure out how I could use my tailgate. Who doesn't keep a hitch in their truck a city boy that's who.
I take it out and leave it in the cab we don't tow much and I'm tired of smacking my knees on it
I always about the first person that dropped that tail gate on the new truck and wham!, Bob by the way high of 14 in minnesota on wednesday.
You made the comment first!
It was almost 80 here lol
Will your kit work with any locking pin or has to be your pin?
Tim Ramirez any pin will work!
These trucks are nice they have lots of tech and they are cheep
Or just buy a Ford and don't worry about it.
not true ,,,CURT makes a better one
On my Silverado the plate under the bumper to mount the hitch is slightly lower than on the GMC so would not have this problem. Terrible design by GMC, do they not user their own trucks before going to market?
Simple fix... don't put hitch on till you need it. Then just use the corner foot step..... BAM !!!! SOLVED!!
Common sense isn't always common
@@Cody_Reed this would also save knees in the long run too
Simple fix , never leave your shin killer attached.
Those shin killers can save a lot of bumpers from getting rear-ended.
Hate how you have to get a higher trim to get the multi pro ....I want a working mans truck , a true single cab with this would be awsome but nope they put everything behind a paywall. Hope there is aftermarket tailgate options soon
You got my subscription!! Nice video sir!!
I asked gmc, it voids the warranty 😡why????
If you ask 10 dealerships I bet two would say it voids the warranty. Make sure you are working with a reasonable dealer and this shouldn't be a problem.
why does it seem like when the hitch is installed does the tail gate appear to become heavy? cutting the power to the drop portion of the tailgate doesnt mess with the soft dropping of the tail gate in some way does it ?
very cool.....expensive mistake if you screw up
You would think GM would have fixed it by now.. Things that make you go hmmm.
How about the all electric Silverado? What's your take.
Ok Cody 😉
Is it Normal That Mine When I press the Top Button it does not fall rather I have to Push it down, 1 second after I push the button
You should only have to hit it one time man.
Thank you! You probably saved me a future problem!
TSuTomas Pacheco you have a 1500?
Does it work with a 2 1/2 receiver on the HD trucks?
Yes John they have that option! www.tailgatefix.com
55 year old dudes shouldn't wear their hats backwards.
I'm dead.
@@Cody_Reed 😂😂
Where did you get the roof racks? Came with the truck?????
It seems like a good idea but that 2way tape will not last in the salt belt
What hitch lock do you recommend to replace the pin, and clip. The ones I have are too large diameter.
Wish they could fix the rear leaking window lol 😂
eeeek
Yeah, had my 19 in twice for the leading window, they ended up replacing the back window.
Engineering department was high as kite 🪁 designing this tailgate smh 🤦♂️ 85k truck that you still have to Work on.
Not sure why this is a "problem" unless youre lazy
It takes 30 seconds to remove a hitch and 99% of ppl arent hauling shit daily and if they are they dont need to drop the tailgate. I see this as a "problem " that isn't really a problem
Be a real man and tow a 5th wheel
only if it's in a straight line! haha
10 minute intro.
sorry Kyle
Not a fix. More of an obstacle now.
I like the idea! But you know anyone with a truck typically is going to leave the hitch in the receiver. People are not going to want to take out the hitch every time your not hauling something!
That’s right! These guys have it figured out
@@Cody_Reed good review BTW
this will not hold up in any climate not summer...
Why do you think that?
@@Cody_Reed the way you connect the wires? that shit will corrode in no time with all the road salt.
Man, I really didn’t do a good enough job of these guys explaining all of the complex testing / measures they have taken to prevent any kind of corrosion. The inside of the connectors are silicon filled and are waterproof. After you install there is really no difference from their product and the connectors GM uses from the factory. I’ll take this one on the chin it’s on me because these guys really emphasized how much testing went into this product withstanding every element. Do you have a SLT or a Denali?
@@Cody_Reed I believe those are 3M silicone filled connectors. They are fantastic connectors and have used them extensively on trailer wiring. Never a corrosion issue with these after years of use.
Are you looking into the other problems? I love gm trucks so i ordered a 2020 GMC. And the trouble that i have!! O BOY
Yeah, everyday. There isn't many out yet due to the labor strike. I've got my eyes open. As I find them you know I'll be recording them.
@@Cody_Reed I have found that the upfitter switches that you order on the truck does not come complete. they give you a harness that they want you to finish the install. Also I have found that it comes with five switches and a pig tail with only four wires!?! Another issue was that I had the dealer install cargo bed lights after the build. EASY PEASY?? Pop the cap off, plug the wires on that were already there and pop in the light. WRONG light doesnt come on! cant seem to find an answer yet.
Simple fix is don't buy a gay mans Chevy or just put a plan tailgate on it
Haha you must be a Ford owner.
@@Cody_Reed nope just like my 90s Chevy truck
Can’t hate on that, the older trucks are GMs best I don’t think there is anyone that will argue that
Ya I can pull 3 plug wires and still make it there and back pulling a Ford all the way.
Steve Neumeyer 5.7?
