Freddie has ridden so many modern bikes, he's absolutely qualified to appreciate and re-appreciate his "old" Bonnie. He's not into impressing his followers with ownership of a string of fancy new & expensive rides. Instead, he prioritizes his $ so he can enjoy and share the broader aspects of motorcycling. Something all us bikers should remember.

I bought a new bike in 2020, my first brand new vehicle. I bought it outright with the intention of keeping it for a long time for the reason you discuss at the end of this film, to write a story with it. It started out perfect, spotless in the showroom, no miles, not a single blemish. A blank page, the same as every other bike of that type but now, three years and 15,000 miles later it’s been lightly modified to suit me, it’s been to 10 countries, it’s got emissions stickers and autoroute stickers from across Europe stuck to it, it’s got little marks and dings on it and I know exactly how, when and where every single one of them happened. I still find the grey dust from some Polish roadworks under the seat, it has a chain fitted in Lithuania, I have a picture of it with a little Estonian girl pretending to ride it. Three years in and we’ve only just started, I intend to ride it through every country in Europe and possibly beyond and one day when I can’t ride any more I hope someone with your viewpoint will buy it and keep adding to it’s story. A brand new bike on finance every two years is very nice i’m sure but I would feel like i’m missing out on something quite special if I hopped from bike to bike like that. I will buy another bike in the future, but I’ll always keep this one.

I dunno - as someone who knows of Belvedere and Erith etc ...not sure "wise" is the correct word. But, London is a nightmare - so any roof will do.
And Thamesmead???? OMG no no no. For those that don't know - Thamesmead is where they shot Clockwork Orange ... and its 100x worse since then

Good Morning from España Freddie....My eldest son lived in Blackheath, although my wife and l were only visiting it always struck me as a tranquil area to live, certainly where he and his wife lived anyway. An urban fox trotting along the road in front of me. l loved my glimpses of Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk...I'm from Southend originally.. l will no doubt see some of the Kent, Sussex countryside.... all parts of my motorcycling youth.....long before l was visiting children in Blackheath. Lovely apartment Freddie, look forward to riding the Kent countryside....

I’ve had so many bikes… most brands really… all of which I have loved, but I still hark back to an old RE 500 with battered panniers that I bought quite a few years back… I had to get a train to Staffordshire to ride home… had never ridden a right hand gear change and had a somewhat challenging ride home but I loved doffing around the Oxfordshire lanes on that bike… endless hours of pootling! Thanks for these vids Freddy and Monica… they are reminding me of the simple pleasures and how one can take real pleasure from a ride, a coffee, a good old book or bike… lovely stuff 🤗

Old bikes appeal to me most now as I am a retiree, having owned and ridden 43 bikes since 1968. In the beginning it was a brand new '68 Yamaha 250 DT-1, followed by years of multiple race bikes, and a 1970 CB750 Honda, all bought new. After marriage and no more racing, my last new bike was a 1980 RD350LC Yamaha. Thereafter was a series of mostly forgettable used touring rigs, and finally back on a brand new Ducati Monster in 2006, then a new ZX-14 in 2008. Then back to used bikes up until this year. Having sold my VFR500 V-Four '86 model on, I'm looking at a sub 500cc Adventure bike, new, in the spring. I love riding and hope to ride out my twilight years, enjoying the feelings I get while riding. Freddie, keep on making these great videos! You are an inspiration.

Totally agree with you about older Motorcycles and the character with history…earlier this Year I was absolutely gobsmacked to see a Honda CB500 in racing green which happened to be my 1st big bike. Upon closer inspection I realised that it was indeed my 1994 bike!
The memories came flooding back on the adventures I’d had including the previous owner to me…got to admit that I was also upset at the state it had become because of the attention it had been given after myself.

The G is great fun to ride but it is great to get back on a modern bike that goes and stops on command, older bikes take a bit more skill (and luck) to ride but it is very satisfying when you get back home under your own steam! Perhaps I will bump into you one day.

As a very little boy, my Dad, who was a very keen Motorcyclist and Motor Racing fan, took me to The British GP at Silverstone in 1956. Amongst the drivers were Stirling Moss and of course Fangio who won this GP. Vanwall, BRM, Ferrari and Maserati were some of the teams. I can remember little of the day sadly, but my dad saved the program which I still have! It is priceless to me. Unfortunately the 8mm Cine Film my dad took on the day, no audio of course, that I did watch later in life, has “disappeared”.

Welcome back to SE London. At least you’re closer to The Bike Shed now. I usually head out the other way into Kent proper. You need to allow for an hour or so but there are plenty of cafes and farm shops like Taywells in Goudhurst

Love your flat - simple, understated elegance & taste.
Whatever space we have, we tend to expand into it and risk cluttering it up.
Living the way you do takes restraint and means we have to make better selections, but that way we can better appreciate the items we choose to keep around us.
    You've inspired me to de-clutter!
And I agree about older bikes; I'm off to the motorcycle show next week and whilst it's great to see all the latest models and new tech, finding a bike that has that elusive character is the challenge for me now.
Love your videos - thanks to you both xx

I absolutely agree with you about old bikes. They have a character all of their own. I have a 62 year old BSA and it has something no new bike has. Definitely not for sale. Don’t sell the Bonneville whatever you do, maybe buy something to go with it. Take care.😢

Lovely video Monica and Freddie thank you. I agree about old bikes, do have my 2017 Bullet 500 plenty of history and know everyone who have rode her, however my 1967 BSA 500 now she is class, patina, and bike of freedom personified.
    Janner.

So enjoy watching your vids and the way your Bonneville is such an important part of your life. I lived with motorbikes throughout my childhood and beyond as my father raced during the 40’s 50’s 60’s and 70’s, the noise and smells stay with you forever. Couldn’t resist buying a copy of Motor Racing the Golden Age found one for the grand sum of 50p! 😊

Brilliant, I have to say Blackheath is also one of my favourite places in London.
I have worked and drove into london from Kent where I grew up and at the start of the millennium I was in management, which involved driving into london to survey works to be done etc. I would often stop near the little church on the heath and have my lunch, chill for a bit. Lovely seeing the place on here.

Nice apartment. I really like it's style and simplicity. Back in 1971, when I was 16, I lived for a year or so on Shooters Hill, just up the road from Blackheath. I well remember charging around that area on my 1966 Suzuki 50 (M12 model). Nice area to live. Easy access (by bike) into the city (London), and access to the garden of England (the lovely county of Kent). Thanks for bringing back happy memories of my youth.

Thanks once more Freddie & Monica! Kent has some beautiful villages too. And if you ever venture north, High Beech, Essex, has a tea hut where you may see the most amazing classic motorbikes on s Sunday.

Good luck with the new flat. Travelled to Belvedere back in the 70's, down to Dunstalls (Crabtree manorway) for motorcycle pipes. Seems a lot more developed round there than it used to be.👍

Freddie, been watching every video you post for a couple of years now, I'm always inspired by your travels which led me to get my own triumph and go on few trips. Now you've moved closer to kent it might be worth going to Aylesford Wharf, Forstal Rd ME20 7XA. There is a big Harvey davison showroom with cafe etc and its right next door to a new triumph show room too , great to compare side by side. Keep doing what you do. Also have you ever thought of using some of Monkias photos of the bike scenes to produce a 2024 calendar, youve got a captive audience who love bikes and your journeys ..

Freddie I am one of your viewers from Greece and I plan with my wife to come early in the spring to London. I need your help regardless where to find a place to rent a Bonneville and what you recommend for a place with a garage for 2-3 days near London area. My plan is to visit Bike Shed, some other motorcycle places and see some things of the beautiful London.
