I think it's interesting that the sky that so freaked Munch out, was caused by the volcano, Krakatoa. The influence tuberculosis has played in the arts is also an interesting topic - the writings of Poe come to mind. I love Munch, as I love Expressionism - his paintings, prints, etc., are so evocative of his grief, fear, and loss. And, the fact that Hitler so hated the Expressionists tells me that one) they have a depth that he couldn't or wouldn't understand, and two) that art can be politically dangerous. (I can't believe his house was later torn down, though...)
