I have to disagree as former owner of a 2014 Caravan and current owner of a 2017 Sedona. The Sedona drives much more like a SUV vs. the Caravan and doesn't feel top heavy like the Caravan. I have not seen any review but yours preferring the Caravan platform over the Sedona in handling or ride feel. Reliability, there is no comparison. Not one issue with the Sedona in over 3 years, vs. the Caravan..oil pump went, seat belt locked and trapped my daughter and had to be cut, clock spring in steering wheel failed and took out all steering wheel functionality including the horn, and so on. The seats are much more comfortable in the Sedona, especially the mid-captains chairs. Sure, you get stow and go with the Caravan, but those Caravan seats need to be narrow to pull that off. 99٪ of the time for me, I'd rather have better seats than a little more cargo space. Power is fine. It's a minivan, but I can pass whoever when needed. You couldn't pay me to switch back to a FCA product.
Let me tell you, I'm with you. My wife and I have been driving a 2012 Town and country for the last 5 years, and occasionally weTransport two of our adult children in the middle row, and they are miserable on trips over 20 miles... It's getting about time to retire the town and country, and we are shopping for something different, and we have driven 2016 and 17 sedonas,.. I'm 6 ft tall, 220 lb, and I feel cramped driving to town and country, but in the sedona, I could stretch my legs all the way out, and get pretty comfortable. The middle row is night and day difference over the Town & country, so much legroom, and I think the seat pans sit a little bit taller, so your knees aren't bunched up as much.... As far as performance goes, yeah the Town and country has got just a little more grunt... I've always been impressed with the power of that minivan, but the key is Sedona doesn't have that much less. And the transmission in the Sedona shifts silky smooth compared to the chrysler. And it's not just my chrysler, every town and country with that 6-speed seems to do weird stuff... I think the Sedona is definitely the most comfortable minivan out there. Or maybe the KIA carnival
Well I'm looking at a used '17 Sedona with 88k miles very clean and have had 2 T&C's and I had no issues. I'm nervous hearing about Kia's blowing motors (maybe just the 4 cylinders) & carbon buildup because of the GDI motor...Chrysler T&C makes a dynamite 3.6 motor and the 62TE transmission are one of the best.....Going to look at the Sedona today wel see😉
I have a 2016 Kia Sedona SX, which has been very reliable for me. I bought it at the time because you could not beat it for the number of features that I got. I was cross shopping it with a top-of-the-line Honda Odyssey elite 2016 and this thing just had so many more features than that, including Apple CarPlay.
The SXL was the top line trim, I remember at the time when I purchased my 2014 optima SXL turbo was the top trim.
What are you talking about man, my wife has one, same year. It’s a damn rocket-ship! The responsiveness, steering and brakes are stellar. My wife had two Chrysler mini-vans previously, nothing but problems. We both agreed NEVER again Chrysler, they were junk compared to her 2016 Kia Sedona XL 3.3L V6. She raced it at the local racetrack for the grocery getter class. She smoked all others at 16 sec 1/4mile at 95mph. A wonderfully fun car to drive. I totally disagree with your review. Of course this van like all others of this size, will go through brakes, rotors, stabilize bar sway bar links, tie rod ends. Additional issues were non functional Electric cooling Fan , sliding door latching issues. Water in right passage taillight lens causing pre-mature bulb failure. Sealed hubs in front and CV axles replaced around 140-150K
All in all a very fun vehicle to drive with an incredible amount of snap in my opinion.

I’ve had a 2009 Kia Sedona and it is a racing mini van 135 mph top speed on the speedometer. Super acceleration and handles very well. Has 288,000 miles. I’ve done very little work on this vehicle. Alternator, radiator, standard tires, brakes, and oil changes. It’s not easy to work on because all of the components inside of the hood are very tightly packed, but like I said, not too much work was required to keep this vehicle road worthy. I used it for family and even over 5000 trips as an Uber. I wish you could fold the seats into the manifold, but that is not an option except for the 3rd row that folds into the manifold. I’ve hauled kayaks, Transported furniture, and used to sleep in when camping with the seats out. I’m considering upgrading to a new model sometime soon.

I'm excited to see what kia does with the introduction of an all-new Sedon- err, Carnival- when it is released for the 2022 model year. This generation, in my opinion, was a turning point for the Sedona into making it more technologically advanced and more fun to drive.
That clunk was definitely something in the interior there’s no way the engine made that sound
This was an interesting review to watch, because we have the exact same mini-van ..... down to the year and trim. The only difference is that ours has a pearl white exterior, which we love. Overall we love our Sedona, too. Dead reliable, also, except for a power sliding door motor which went bad, and was fixed under warranty, even though it was out of warranty. Kia issued an extended warranty of power doors, because of some issue. As mentioned, overall we love it (down to the styling which we love), but here are a few things which I don't love.
1. Small backup camera screen, which I wish was bigger, but not a big deal.
2. I love the flexibility and functionality of a removable middle, center row seat. What I don't like about this one is when you remove the middle seat, you end up not having center armrests for the remaining seats. I prefer the Toyota setup, where you remove the center seat, and the armrests remain, because they are part of the remaining seats. In the Kia, the center seat serves as the armrests.
3. The other thing I complain about is the ride. Sure, if the road surface is smooth, no issues. But riding over patchwork on the road, or railroad tracks, or expansion joints, etc, the ride is uncomposed and sloppy .... kinda clanky, too. Also if there is a dip in the road, the Kia hits harder and harsher than any of our other vehicles --- feels like it almost bottoms out. Sometimes I think replacing all four shocks/struts might help with this situation, but on the other hand I think it is what it is. I would hate to incur the cost of replacing the struts/shocks, and still having the same situation/characteristics. But I don't recall these characteristics on the rental.
I bought this van after falling in love with a Toyota Sienna that we rented while on vacation one year. The next year we rented another minivan, but ended up getting a Sedona, instead. I was initially disappointed not to get another Sienna, but after the 2 weeks, I thought the Sedona was great, too. Almost as great as the Sienna. I was buying one used, and got a better deal on a used Sedona, so went that way.
Kia and Hyundai are great vehicles! Not a van guy but that's a nice van the new pacific is very nice we went them at Enterprise.
Good review and quite comprehensive touch upon the key aspects but I disagree with the handling part. I own one and I own, and owned, other sports and performance cars that come at the top of the food chain when it comes to handling in their class and I can comfortably say the Sedona/ Carnival handles great for a car of its purpose and dimensions. The body slightly roles and sticks to the road nicely on turns provided you have good tires.
I like it. I think minivans are cool. You have plenty of room and space. If you need to haul things fold down the seats put whatever your hauling in. If you need to haul people you got that room. When my sister was going to college 6 hrs away. Every time she would move in and out of her dorm I would have to rent a SUV or minivan. A minivan would have been awesome for me then. My personal pick would be the 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L.
I'm currently driving a crappy Dodge Grand Caravan and totally missing my 2016 Kia Sedona that some moron totalled by running into me.
That was a great minivan and the Dodge just isn't. It just feels old vs my Sedona that drove, rode, and handled great. You're in less than perfect conditions in a MINIVAN. Why are you comparing it to a Challenger?? Makes zero sense. It's the best handling minivan I've ever driven, and I've pushed it hard before (driven all except the Toyota). 😁
I'm selling my Dodge soon and buying another Kia. Hopefully this will be my last gas car purchase. Currently commute in a Chevy Volt and love it.

SX Limited (SXL) was the top trim between 2016-2018. But they removed Limited in the US since 2019. They renamed it in SX Tech Package.

For a Top of the line trim that interior looks 🗑 compared to 2011-14 Sienna Limited. 😆 Kia has empty buttons on a TOP Trim smmfh
I always thought the Sedona was a lot of bang for the buck, styled nicely, but never drove one, so I can't comment on that. I've rented a ton of FCA minivans, and always liked the way they drive, but haven't owned one since a 1993 model, and I'm always doubtful of the reliability. I wouldn't mind picking up a heavily depreciated 2011 or so FCA minivan for a daily driver, though. Stow and go rocks - my dog used to love running around the flat floor of rentals.
Great review but one correction. The EX is not the top trim level. The SXL was. I know this because I have a 2016 SX which has been great so far.
Minivans are all foreign made now so it's doesn't matter what brand you buy. The Kia Sedona has the best warranty, it's the most reliable minivan the last 5 years and it's a top safety pick. I didn't buy the Caravan because you'd lose a leg in a bad frontal crash ( check out the small overlap test pictures IIHA ) and I don't trust Chrysler reliability- traded in a 2016 Jeep Patriot because it had 2 transmission problems with under 28,000 miles - they had to redo most of the transmission because a part failed and then 5000 miles later the clutch failed at 28,000 miles. I drove manuals for 31 years and never had a clutch fail under 125,000 miles.
Traded the Jeep Patriot in and bought a 2017 Kia Sedona LX, Carvana gave me $12,000 for the Jeep and I purchased a Kia with 32,000 miles for under $20,000 . Paid $18,400 for the Jeep, the Kia cost $28,000 new , so I didn't lose anything on the trade in.
I've got the exact same minivan! 16 EX in Beachwood Pearl. We got a ridiculously amazingly deal on it that basically made it a no brainer vs buying a used Odyssey. I do agree that the driving experience isn't the greatest, especially when you compare it to the new Odyssey but we've been happy with the practicality and space the Sedona offers. Here's to hoping the new Sedona (or Carnival as it's apparently going to be called) improves on that front
How is road noise?
@@ARUclipsChannelwithNoName I think the ride is pretty quiet but then again this is by far the most refined (and expensive) car I've ever owned... I'm coming from a Miata and small economy hatchbacks lol
I see the green ECO mode light on the dash. Take it out of ECO mode and it will curl your hairs when you accelerate.
You're wrong about top trim level. SX and SXL has more options. I'm driving SXL (same model year) and even in this trim I'm missing entertainment center, middle row heated seats and remote starter. Buy thank you for your review.
Too bad the grand Caravan was discontinued :( But I suggest looking at the voyager or Pacifica
How do these hold up in the long run? How does it stacked up against the Toyota sienna?
I'm happy at 55 mph great video but no lane departure .
Can the 2nd row seats be easily removed?
Is there a place in the van to put the 8th seat when you take it out?
Kia made a few changes from the earlier model u have as of 2019 they all come with an 8 speed trans which suits this engine as it makes torque higher in the rev range, it out performs the Caravan 3.6L at higher speeds as a note if u slap it into manual the trans auto up shift at redline which really gets her going.. fuel econ 19 to 20 mpg city highway 27 to 31 mpg, it handling definitely better than the Sienna the Caravan, the base trims get hydraulic power steering vs electric assist in the upper trims giving it tight high speed handling, corners relatively better than most SUV's for it's size, high cross wind doing 80mph it's buttoned down

could you talk about reliability and maintenance and easy access for things in engine bay area?
I have one. And it's not easy to change the spark plugs. Too many things require a dealer to change and are expensive.
@@NdiNaija it's a transverse V6 they are all difficult to get the rearward plugs but u know what the Sedona has more room between the engine and cowling than other manufacturer which can be pretty tight or u have to remove it too in order to work back there

This is not the highest trim level, it’s the SX Limited
That's not max height on rear gate. Someone set it that low, check manual. To reset
I think you are correct. We excercised that "limit" feature on the power tailgate, to allow it to open up in the garage, without hitting the garage door. He most likely bought it with a limit set on the tailgate.
You replaced the Prius with this?

How's the reliability? Have you had any mechanical problems?
I bought this used with about 16,000 miles on it and we have not had a single issue with the engine. The only thing we've had fixed is the driver's side sliding door. It started to make a strange noise after about 2 years of CONSTANT use. It was covered under our warranty and KIa fixed it quickly. Besides that, it's been a wonderful experience (knock on wood, please please don't break).

@@100RentalCars This review is so cool for me, because I have the same year and trim. It's been stone reliable for us, too. Also, the ONLY problem we had was also with the power-sliding door on the driver's side. It was also covered under warranty, even though it was beyond the warranty date. Kia issued a warranty extension on the power sliding doors.

The SX and SXL has a much bigger screen. Which for its time was actually very large and nice.
