    backdraft-bike...
I bought all but one aftermarket accessory that I could find for the new 2021 Harley Davidson Pan America of eBay. Radiator Guard, Headlight Guard, and Tank Pads. I didn't get the risers, more on that in the video. I also installed them and will show you how-to as well! Finally, after 1,500 miles I will tell for what I thought of them.

I understand where you are coming from, just getting the parts you need, so easy. On principle I refuse to support the blatant copyright violations of these Chinese based companies.
China’s government continues to support this practice just as long as they get their taxes, why would they change, a blatant disregard for copyright and trademark.
But I live in Australia, we get everything delayed, and local industry struggles to compete with these Chinese knock-offs and our political relationship is somewhat strained with these kinds of behaviours and the general lack of respect for our sovereignty.
So in short. I have just spent $1500+ AUD on accessories from my local Harley Davidson dealer. I’m actually supporting your country’s industry, and mines retail and that’s important to me!

I immediately ordered the radiator guard from an unbranded source which was in China. Got it in under 14 days. Looks indentical to HDs. 50USD Delivered. Also bought the best quality hwy pegs from Aeedea in India. 160USD delivered on my doorstep in 2 weeks. They are made to order and the fit and finish are A1. They are by far the best hwy pegs for the Pan Am. Aeedea also makes a large selection of top quality accessories for the PA. I highly recommend them

I purchased the side cases and mounts from Pazoma Racing and I don't have any complaints. Installing a riser tomorrow and I'll let you know how it works out. The parts you purchased were cut on a CNC Laser (Amada?) and those little edge burrs are shaker tabs; they keep the area that's cut out from falling out prematurely and stopping the machine. Great video!

I get it. Waiting on all the parts for my PA has been annoying, but I can’t control it. Only two more to come in as most of my accessories came in last couple weeks.

I also bought the same accessories from AliExpress. I bought a clear Perspex headlight guard, it came with adhesive foam strips that sandwich the fairing, it is well fixed. I haven’t installed the tank pads yet. The SW Motech tank ring for the Multistrada and R1200 GS also fits for the Evo tank bag range. I’m buying GIVI panniers and top case at half cost of the HD boxes.

Good review. By the way - HD manufactures the Pan Am and other models in Thailand…yes and in Europe and India as I recall - and of course the USA. This whole ‘made in the USA’ is a marketing ploy. I have a 2022 PAS and also a 2020 Triumph Tiger 900 GTP (ALL Triumphs worldwide are made in Thailand BTW).

I just got a bunch of parts that were slated for October and only found out after calling dealer to cancel an order and boom, found out 4 boxes arrived, tank pads, muffler guard, skid plate, grit shift lever. Seems they are arriving earlier than the dealer was told.

The accessories you bought are perfectly adequate IMO. You didn't have to pay the HD tax. More change to eat burgers on the road! Most of these loyal Harley people have a house full of Chinese goods, thus a moot point. I love made in America, but the reality of today is that buying USA only is literally not possible without sacrifice that most aren't prepared to make.

Thank you for enjoyable video, Currently awaiting here in UK delivery of back box and tank pads. Sorry to see your tank pads failed but at the same time pleased that I have ordered Harley ones. Although the roughest roads I ride on will be a gravel car park I will definitely be getting both the headlight and radiator guards
I have seen them on Aliexpress I think. Biggest issue for me at the moment is my exhaust heat shield getting extremely hot and Harley make an accessory to help prevent this but as you say getting one won't be easy from them so I would settle for a Chinese one if I can get it. As for not buying from America if its any comfort our Triumphs are no longer made in the UK either. Perhaps if we insisted that the countries making these parts and bikes paid decent wages to their workers more would be manufactured in our specific country. Stay safe out there.

  • @DiveInThe305

Why not, I mean if a chinese made $30 radiator guard protects the radiator which cost $400 and saves it from a rock or something, I would rather reorder a new radiator guard for $30 than have to replace a $400 radiator.

Hi I'm Markus from Germany and own also a pan america special in some color like you.
My bike is build on Taiwan like the most Harleys they sell in Europe are build in Taiwan.
It is cheaper to build it there and in Europe you don't have to pay extra tax on it.
The skid plate you can get now also from after marked. And it is made in USA.
I already order one and will put it on next week.

Nothing wrong with that. Its still a Harley just as Honda s 500s bikes that are built in a plant in Thailand are Hondas. Its making your product more available to your customers. Just like Honda, Toyota, Hyunda, Kia, BMW,Mercedes, and Kawasaki have been doing for years with plants here in the US. I Have no problem with it. The PA is still American conceived, designed and manufactured in the US. The ones from Taiwan for the Euro market are assembled in Taiwan not manufactured there. Same in India. By the way the Ford F 150 is mostly built in Canada. The Focus and Fiesta are built in Mexico as are most if not all of Fords small engines.

Yup sure would saves you money and time if the product is good then why not pretty sure most of the parts on my street glide are from overseas as well and yes the riding season in Maine is done by 1st week of November with a few ridable days from there on guess if you wanted to wait could fill those winter days with bike projects in the garage 😁. Nice merch you wouldn't be a fire fighter would ya? now get out and ride thanks again for great video

Guess what! Bought the headlight- and the radiatorguard from china for 70 bucks! The price at HD dealer in germany almost 355 bucks! WTF? That is a loooot of gas I can fill up my Pan America with! And it took 12 days to arrive (incl. 2 sundays). ;-)

Great video and honest with it! Sadly though I find it depressing that the communists can knock out their copies faster than you Americans can produce the real deal. In your situation I’d have done the same but can’t help feeling we’re storing up trouble for the future. I purchased some Chinese spot lamps for my Japanese ADV, they lasted about 3 months in a U.K. winter, so after that I purchased some Rigid Industries spots (built in the USA) - excellent performance after 3 years no issues………..somewhere we’ve gone wrong in the West.

When the dealer says these are made in America they are just repeating the lie they were told. That skid plate label is there by federal law. The PanAm is made in Taiwan Then assembled in modules in America to evade tariffs. The “big lie”

I have discovered that a "lot" of H-D parts are made in China. For instance the trunk liner out of my 21 TriGlide that I paid 38K for has a nice little sticker on it "MADE IN CHINA".I've been aware of several H-D parts being made in China for some years, but it seems it is getting worse. So why pay the Harley tax? Just buy it from the manufacturer. Which happens to be China. It saddens me to say that as China would very much like to eliminate the USA by any means necessary
