    Bro, I stopped playing the game 6 months ago. But just in one year, I became from a noob to a regular ZvZ player in The Lonely Men guild. All of those results are because of your videos. I watched them all. And I can say even more. I think your understanding of the game is more than just about Albion Online. Some ideas like: "Your percentage of winning is how many mistakes you and your enemy made. If you made fewer mistakes, you would win.". Or important ideas about your role and your goals. I learned a lot from this. Whatever you do, I want to let you know you are one of the best teachers in my life. Thank you for this!

    Awesome video about the zvz meta history! Completely agree. Im an vetran zvz'er that quit in S13 and didnt come back because the brawl meta is soo dull to play and watch. So happy its changing

      yea you and many others quit at that time. i once had a conversation with delnegr0 asking why they playing this style and he also said the same, he can't teach em kite cuz they weren't good enough. I think it's different now though and the game changes are also pushing the old school meta. we'll see^^

      @@aouniversity tbh I think large scale will always be melee now because of the introduction of the crazy boots (GG, Valor, feyscale). It's too hard for Def tanks to create that separation between zergs like they used to. No dtank can defend their zerg from 100 DPS running at them from all sides, whereas previously they could.
      The mid/small scale meta is super fun now tho. They don't have to rely on dtanks (who are kinda bad now), but instead use occults (mobility) and loads of supports. Most groups are kite now on that scale but in the process of learning it.
      Seems like this is where all the fun is now. No good players are interested in contesting rank and the top big guilds because the fights aren't fun.

    The concept of getting back old style ZvZ is a dream. I took a break from albion and when i came back my favourite content became unrecognisable :(

      yea i 100% feel the same as you, but i think the changes are just too much for players not to change back. it's just going to take some time, maybe a couple seasons.

    I'm a solo player who doesn't really do zvz content but man was this entertaining to watch. Love to see such an indepth dive into an Albion content and it's history that i never really touch but largely affects the game even outside of zergs. This is probably one of the most insightful Albion video i've seen in youtube so far.

    The non-reflectability changes, make demon armors less OP, but how does this effect rift glaives? Do you think they will become completely useless?

      The non-reflectability changes are actually pretty big and I probably should have highlighted them specifically in the video. I assume your question is regarding people using other weapons because they're non-reflectable now.
      No I don't think rift glaives are going to become completely useless. The weapon is very strong, but the nerf to range from 20m to 17m that is about to go live is really what will knock it down hard. The damage will be the same (except for the AOE escalation loss), but now people will prefer to use 20m range weapons like longbow (15m +5m radius) and brimstone (15 +5m radius).
      Ultimately, I think people will hard switch away from rift glaive, but that's more of a preference thing rather than necessity.

      This is the first actual video I made. The others were essentially just VODs of my twitch streams where I was teaching ZvZ last year. I plan on making more content like this one though^^
      For small scale, melee is and always has been dominant. I don't see this changing any time soon. For small scale, I think the weapons with most damage over time are optimal, such as axes because of the bleed. They also have to be able to survive with minimal heals, so hellion jackets are usually the best.

    Did you know that different servers have different metas?
    On the East server, over 80% of the time it's brawl comps.
    But on EU servers there are less brawl comps and more one shot comps.
    On which servers is this meta taken into account?

      Generally speaking, they're all following the brawl comp style atm. The video explains that it's time to change, not that the meta has already changed. The brawl meta is dead because the changes have now become inevitable.

    So something I think that's worth mentioning that you don't talk about is how inherently brawl favored the game is.
    ATM people don't leave the HO for basically anything but events. Very few guilds are actually just going for fights. There's certainly some that will int with loot or just go out but very, very few in the grand scheme of things.
    Brawl inherently has a very big advantage when fighting for/on objectives.
    It can zone off a high tier node while the gatherer works and to stop the gatherer other groups have to walk in, so they play into brawl.
    On both brawl and clap castle brawl again is heavily favored in both attacking and defending because it gets the most help from NPCs and again people have to push into brawl to get objectives.
    And ATM there's very few "pure" brawl comps over 20 man like you said. So anything more than small scale just won't be brawl. It'll be brawl with a bomb or brawl with a perma/glave 2nd hit or brawl with out of tag bomb.
    A point you don't mention is how powerful kite/absorb comps are outside objectives. Specifically the perma/glave kite comps on the open world are absolutely annoying as shit but if you tweak them a little bit you can still just get a comp that can walk in and absorb engages above the small scale.
    So my argument against your video is that you're wrong on a base level. It's not that brawl or clap or kite or whatever is currently going to be going out of favor. It's more that there's very little reason now to make a comp that's fully dedicated to just one style of engage because you're almost always going to be playing a lot of different objectives and have to play different into different comps.
    So having a brawl comp with a fake perma engage that stuns for scythe e is basically the Vogue thing to do.
    Playing perma with more riftglaves/hellfire/scythes let's you also punish successful claps more.
    Playing brawl with supports like occult/oathies means you've got swaps and mobility to catch up to kite comp.
    And the meta is wildly different depending on size. Like clap isn't really playable in 5 or 10s when F2b is so punishing. There's no way to get the extra damage needed to kill the front line and it's too hard to get to the mid/backline in hellgates or arenas where IP is soft capped.
    Similarly any 20 man ish comp with a perma is probably going to perform just better than a 20 man that doesn't have any ability to set up an engage because blink boots are so popular. It's like trying to engage on a clump without resistance shred. You're just not killing them.
    At high disarray ZvZs walk in damage with scythes is incredibly popular but they need riftglave bombs to clap backline or out of tag groups to apply pressure or people just don't die fast enough to chew through the disarray needed to secure objectives.
    So I don't think this is some grand meta shift but more continuing the trend we started to see last season where a lot of comps at all scales essentially started including tools from other comps to compliment their main comp and let them do more than just one roll.

      First of all, I appreciate the elaborate comment. I'm glad to see you found the topic interesting enough to write your full thoughts^^
      Now, imma take this piece by piece since it's a lot of arguments in here. The first is in regards to brawl having an advantage being able to "force" people to brawl into them to push them off an objective such as an 8.4 node. This is actually completely incorrect. Yes, you can brawl into them, but you don't have to. If the enemy sits on a node, you can just come in and out with RDPS and bomb them until they lose enough numbers to just run them down. The question becomes - are the ticks the 8.4 gatherer gets worth losing an entire zerg over? Probably not. so, either brawl pushes into the kite comp and away from the objective, or they just lose.
      Your next point is on castles and terris. In no way are guards worth giving up the walls. With brawl, walls are not helpful, only guards. With Ranged/Kite, walls are a HUGE advantage and when the enemy does walk in, the guards will also help.
      For your comment on "pure" brawl comps, no zerg runs a pure anything. The meta is defined by what is most used, not what is ONLY used. Bomb squads have and always will be a thing, but they do not mean that the meta is not brawl. Bomb squads constitute a small portion of the zerg, not the whole zerg.
      Your main point is that following 1 style is not optimal, and you're correct, i don't disagree. However, the meta has always favored a particular style because some styles are simply better than others or they are more popular. A zerg can't play at the same level both kite and brawl because the individual players simply aren't good enough to play either or. People will become experienced with one style, it doesn't necessarily translate directly into the other. Because of this, zergs usually just run the same style across all objectives since they're optimized for it.
      As for your argument regarding things like 5s and 10s, this video isn't talking about that. It specifically states at the start "The brawl style of ZvZ".
      Your last point is similar to the argument above about bomb squads.
      You are 100% correct though, the changes are always ongoing, i don't disagree at all. The point I'm making is that the changes are now moving in a significantly different direction than before and at a much faster rate.

    I didn't know the meta was different (stopped playing for 2 years) I really enjoyed zvz when i left, i used to use grovekeeper and had fun stunning all the enemies to then watch them get deleted

      yea the meta changed quite a bit in 2 years. the entire last 1.5 years has been brawl focused, especially the last year.

      I think we are already seeing these changes happen. if you compare just 6 months ago to today, the amount of kite style zergs continues to increase. Adding to this, the weapon usage statistics are slowly showing ranged weapons increase and melee decrease. the change takes time, ofcourse, but it is already happening bit by bit.

    Even though I personally enjoy the brawl meta, I totally agree with most of your points. (esp. "brawl meta sucks for viewership."😂) It is tricky, though "RANGED ZvZ" is already returned a while ago, but with Melee "Ranged" weapons. haha. (I wish reworks of some ranged weapons.)
    In my arrogant opinion, certain type of players prefer brawl over kite or ranged comp, including myself, because it offers more individual freedom. But probably many players may think differently.
    A lot to say about this topic... but thanks again for your video.

      hey man i appreciate the words^^ haha anyone who's played long enough in the game has made friends and enemies along the way.
      I personally prefer ranged but that's probably because it's how I learned to play, just good memories. Either way though, i know for sure that most people prefer brawl style because they think it's more fun, more individual like you say, but it really is horrible for viewership lol shozen and robin now just say "okay it's full brawl, no one knows what's going to happen!" XD thank you for the support^^

    why would the 1h hammer lose viability? Its great for slowing the enemy in his kite as well as stacking ppl on inertia ring and E them (in case u want to enabke kite for your own zerg). I see its only problem in the point of being a meele weapon even though there are plenty of options to adapt with 1h hammer into a kite comp "era". Iam playing it myself and its an absolute beast when controlled right. The only problem I had with it was when u fight on castles and terrys espacially as the raiding force. I tried out to combine it with 1h arcane swap. Maybe somebody has an idea on how to counter this.

      The main reason is because of the space that will be brought about in ZvZ by the emergence of ranged dps. In effect, ranged DPS will slowly lead to zergs fighting with distance from each other, creating a "no man's land" in the center. In order to engage, one zerg will need to cross the no man's land quickly and hit the enemy on the other side. Unless you are willing to telegraph your engages, you will need to have tank weapons that give you mobility to jump in as only the boots wont be enough.

    Maybe consider actually play in a top zerg or smallscale, brawl meta still destroys the rest.
    They need to keep nerfing slows/stuns and melee weapons to change it.

      @@aouniversity when you have 400 venezuelans on your screen, all playing with 2fps, there is only one "meta option", that is to spam W+E on your scythe and walk in same direction. We all know meta isn't what is the best weapon but what the most amount of players can play and if you Q the zone in americas this is unfortunately what you get.

    sadly there would need to be more to make rdps meta, even in small scale brawler mdps literally just run at anything wearing cloth and they usually die.

      I think small scale is always a bit different than general meta. Melee has always been superior in small scale, anything below like 30v30 is usually won by the melee unless the ranged 30 is much better. I'm not saying this scale in particular will change, it probably won't.

    90% of range comps bar hellfire/spiked are on cloth, these survivability "nerfs" on melee is still way more than your average range player

      that's a good point, but you also need to remember that ranged don't have to take as much of a risk because they can keep a healthy distance from the enemy.

      @@Epiceli169 that's why things like firewalls, grails, and icicles are going to be incredibly important. Right now, zergs don't really run much of the three, except an icicle here and there, so staggering the enemy while you kite is very difficult.

      @@aouniversity everyone runs boots of valor now, icicle fire wall inertia ring name it. It’s free passive activation for an enemy in your back line that can’t be locked down for 4 seconds, now imagine 20 30 40 of them

      true the game isn't all about terris, but they're a significant portion of end-game zvz and wars in particular. more than before. and you're right, the top zergs are all still doing brawl, but that's what i think is about to change.

    I hope that you are correct but i dont think so. Maybe they will reach the point with further nerfs but the balance changes they did so far and the proposed changes wont be enough to end the brawl meta, the only thing that will nerf brawl in the next patch is a 7% nerf for the axe w, not enough to remove it from the spot of best zvz dps in the game. On top of that, the crystal weapons that will be released in the new patch, the holy staff, the dagger and the mace, will be very strong for brawl. way more then for clap or kite.
    they stated that their goal is to change the meta so we can hope that they do further nerfs. until then you will see most of the kills in this game done by infernal scythes, that weapon is fucking bonkers.

      I know it's hard to see it now, which is why I made the video. The thing is that these changes happen slowly and it's not always clear that something else will be the new cool thing. Infernal scythe is strong, I don't disagree, but I think when people start realizing how much better ranged is now, they will switch. It all takes time though.

      @@aouniversity Well, i hope you are correct but from my experience playing 4 timers on clusterqueue scale daily, brawl is still the strongest archetype, not even close. especially in the lag and chaos of a clusterqueue fight.

    So your whole argument is ranged lineups are harder to play abd thara why they arent used?
    I havent olayed that much lately but im still up to date with the patch notes as i enjoybreading them, i havent seen anything that buffs the ranged playstyle enough for this shift to occur, if you can asume the playera are more experienced know they will stay playing what they sre comfortable with, rather than nerfing themselves and changing playstyles.
    And the most important thing the monkey lineups are fun to actually play, so unless they get nerfed to the ground I dont expect a shift soon.

      Brawl meta is still here, but it's no longer the best style to play, by a lot. We're already seeing the switch happen, just look at weapons used by zergs in battleboards across all 3 servers. All changes take time.

      I don't think they're going to switch back that quickly. Even if the switch goes terribly wrong, they'll leave it up for atleast a year to figure out how to fix it.

      it's not a bad take you have, but realize that reflect was also in the game when rdps was king before S13. On top of that, options like mistwalker hood did not exist, so the possibility of running rdps now despite reflect is extremely high.

      just need 1 dtank, 2-3melee to work together. Mount up, wait for their engage, dismount on their path and enjoy the dmg escalation into clothies trying to reset on jackets.

      @@aouniversity did you watch any fight from last invasion day? Every competent Zerg runs brawl not to say clap is entirely useless but put any competent zergs up against each other and ask one of them to go brawl and kite/clap/range 90% brawl wins

      @@Epiceli169 I may not have done a good job of making this point, but it's very important to understand that a zerg can't switch from melee to ranged over night. Players need to gain experience using ranged weapons, then they need experience playing kite. Like I said in the video, a meta shift of this scale has only ever happened twice before, so it's definitely going to take a long time to adjust the player base.

      1. There’s zero evidence to prove range is more viable now
      2. No Zerg with value runs range
      This idea that it takes time is not a hill I’ll die on. The argument that they need experience is so bad in context of a guild/alliance pushing for crystal or top 10/5/2/1. They throw meta away to test stuff out griefing their progression to an experimental comp with the hope that it’ll be meta is beyond insane knowing full well that all it takes for you to fall apart is brainless zombies spamming raging blades and subsequent e’s

    are you not ashamed to put this video public when you have mistpiercer, camlan, grailseeker and daybreaker as zvz weapons? you must be completely drunk to play those weapons. Even badon, while not reflective anymore, is useless for damage in a clump since it takes too long for it to do dmg, the only useful thing it can do is be a budget eagle and interrupt bozos (so you play suport)

      If you listen to the video, you'll see that those are potential weapons to be used in ZvZ. Some just because they're good and make sense, others if they get buffed or fixed in some way. Either way, no reason to be toxic, if you didn't like the video just move on. best of luck^^
