Caroline was unhinged - Hiding her child & abandoning him. Playing games with Rusty & leading him on, all the while knowing he’s married man with a family … then tells the daughter she’s pregnant. Definitely not normal behaviour.

Thank you ! I feel like a lot of people aren’t addressing exactly how she started all this and if she had actually been a good person and left a married man alone she’d probably still be alive

Yes she was unhinged but she didn't deserve to die like that at all. the last part of the story was crap they literally ruined the whole thing for me

That was terrible! She was nasty and vindictive. I don’t care how “adult” you think someone’s child is that was completely inappropriate. What she should’ve done is to call Rusty and have him address it with his daughter.

I think Peter Sarsgaard, who played Tommy Milton, was the most underrated actor in this series. He portrayed such an emotionally complex, yet relatable character, in such a subtle way that he takes the spotlight off himself and makes all the other characters and actors around him shine. He’s a real anchor for this show, and in my opinion, one of the hardest characters to pull off.

Makes so much sense why rusty was able to say so confidently “I did not kill her” and truly mean it. I felt that phrase was said so often just like that and I started to notice it more and more but couldn’t figure out exactly why it stood out (of course he’s denying killing her duh). But all came together! I think I didn’t suspect this exact ending bc it requires an amount of selflessness by Rusty I didn’t think possible (protecting who he thought was his wife). Great show!! Tommy’s cat was a great addition too.

Incredible lawyer and phenomenal liar. What great acting!
The fact that he didn’t kill her but did cover up stage the crime is the biggest “oh shit” twist to me. The daughter reveal was almost eye rolling but THAT part - the fact he “knew” his wife did it the entire time and all of this was to prove his innocence AND protect his family WHILE, in his mind, she’s letting him take the wrap and go to jail for life for murder, truly makes him a fascinating character

She’s overly apologetic and sensitive to everything. She’s constantly concerned with the details and what they have on her father. She shows almost no anger just sadness unlike everyone else who has expressed some type of anger. Is that a result of guilt? Her behavior may be a clue.

Peter Sarsgaard did a fantastic job. He was an absolute jerk in court and at work and I hated him, but as soon as he got home the emotion in his eyes and with the cat made me empathize with him. I would have been disappointed if it had been him because it would have made his vulnerability and palpable loneliness when alone feel like an act or an intentional lie to the audience.

I feel like the only moments where Rusty comes off as not the terrible person that he is is when he is engaging with his daughter. Like, if I watched no other scenes from this show and had no idea he was the biggest douche on the planet, and I only viewed those few moments, he would seem decent to me.
    Edit: and his closing argument.
Man, you can tell in that moment how good of a prosecutor he was. And how good of an actor Jake Gyllenhaal is.

Jaden was my #2 suspect after Raymond. They kept showcasing the father daughter relationship. I haven’t seen the movie but I know who the killer is in the movie and I heard somewhere that it would be different. That’s why I didn’t suspect Barbara.
Edit: Also, the night Rusty and Barbara are watching her sleep saying how innocent she is or used to be when she was little. I felt that was on purpose.

What was on Jay laptop ? Neither Rusty, Barb or Kyle was concerned about their phones/tablets being seized only Jay. Probably something small like googling Carolyn address ? Anatomy of a female skull ? Detectives overlooked it. Incompetent dept

The show was so quick to use neighbor surveillance cameras to show Rusty beating up that witness but then when someone breaks into Tommy’s house and delivers the presumed MURDER WEAPON no one thinks to mention “hey let’s canvas the area and ask neighbors and shops for any security footage they have of that night”? Like I understand it’s a tv show but if they bring it up to show Rusty beat someone up, we’re supposed to believe they’d put such little effort into finding out who broke into Tommy’s? While the murderer likely went in through the side door, the car she drove would’ve been caught on someone’s camera! They just glossed over that and they could’ve 10000% found the killer that way, unbelievable 🤣

True. The fact they decided to disregard that completely. Also it was done meticulously, no fingerprints or anything, which is something only done by experts unlike Jaden who is likely amateur. But overall, it was enjoyable show. The acting was incredible, they all did great job!

I think that was a layer to his character. He desperately wanted to be sleeping with Carolyn. He was lonely and attracted to her shiny world, at which she was the center. Instead, she rejected and humiliated him publicly, asking to not be assigned to any cases with him. Instead of being invited in, he was excluded, forced to watch from the outside as Jake got reeled in by Carolyn. All three main characters, Tommy, Jake, and Carolyn, were toxic narcissists in different ways. They all obsessed over their own wants and needs, not considering how it was mind ducking everyone around them.

It was terrible writing by someone who took a great story and completely ruined it. It doesn't hold up to being rewatched. If Jake knows (thinks) his wife killed Carolyn from the beginning of episode 1, none of his behavior going forward makes sense. Why would he be shocked at the news of her death? Or his arrest? He's got a psycho for a wife that killed the woman that he loved and he's willing to go to prison for a murder he didn't commit? C'mon man!

Yeah there was one scene in an earlier episode where rusty said that Carolyn was cruel. Carolyn was probably a manipulator who enjoyed bringing rusty down, especially given his emphasis on integrity earlier in the show stating, “I am not a lair”. This view of Carolyn makes sense given the doctor’s statements that she knowingly concealed evidence to secure a conviction, and abandoned her only child (something women hardly do unless they are sociopathic). So Carolyn probably felt invincible pulling on Jaden’s heart strings to get off on while she ghosted rusty. Maybe her crime not being solved was an ironic way to punish her for the injustices she did to others while she was alive.

I need a couple loose ends tied up! WHY did Rusty go back to Carolyn’s apartment that night after he’d left? And WHY was he so confident from seeing her body/the crime scene that it just HAD to be his wife who killed Carolyn and thus he staged the scene, when Carolyn was a prosecutor with many enemies? The ending just felt kind of rushed with the big reveal. Theories, thoughts, did I miss something? PS yes I know who really killed Carolyn just don’t wanna say outright here.

Yeah, that was in poor taste for those who haven’t seen the show, which is many. The spoiler should not be in the title of this video, and I really feel you should change it. I’ll change my thumbs down to a thumbs up and subscribe if it is changed.

I think my main issue with the show is too many red herrings. So many other people you could make a legit case for. So many little details that clearly mean something but just ended up being irrelevant and having no payoff

Dude...the show gave no clues AT ALL about the daughter in all 7 episodes, for them to just throw in it was the daughter in the last episode is lazy writing
