After the episode of Justice League where Luthor died saving the world, I had this mental image of Superman visiting his memorial, leaving a jar of Superman peanut butter and whispering "The secret ingredient is love."
@@pieromz There was a brand of peanut butter called Superman peanut butter. In the ads, Lex Luthor would kidnap Superman, threaten him with Kryptonite and demand to know what made Superman peanut butter so good and some random kid would come to Superman's rescue. Geez, Lex, the ingredients are on the label!
Lex Luthor is my favorite villain. Perhaps my favorite character, such a great dichotomy, were it not for his obsessive hate of Superman, he's basically a darker version of Tony Stark. I even get my head shaved referring to it as getting my Lex Luthor done.
I always love the interpretation that the only thing stopping Luthor from being one of DC's strongest heroes is his own ego. Any time that can be put aside he becomes a monster
I doubt it. He just simply wanted to see how far he could go. He is genius in his own right, but still mortal. The way he does things when they want to set him up to be the bad guy is what you would expect. Comic villainy. But who in their right mind would pick one of the strongest beings to exist as his rival? Granted, Superman would always be standing in his way no matter what if he had a true lust for power. But he's not stupid, he's not a degenerate, and seems to have only one goal. To push himself to accomplish as much as he can based on the situations that he himself stirs into motion. At times, he seems that he himself is holding back his best cards, just to make things more challenging. And therein lies the problem. He has to pose himself as a supervillain in order to achieve what he wants. Other "bad guys" just want to obliterate everything with no real goal in mind. And therefore they are useless to him. The only way he gets what he wants, the challenge of a lifetime, is if he makes Superman an enemy. It's more or less the only way to assure himself that he will always have to be at his best if he wants to thrive. Or, more to the point, have his accomplishments matter. Who else can say they their rival is Superman and still be one of the richest men in the world in spite of that?
A lot of his earlier motivations for his schemes came from his distrust of Superman. He hated that this super powered being came along and was instantly near godlike just because of his species and wanted to prove (or at least make everyone else believe) that humanity didn't need him and thus the Lex ego was born
I always loved seeing Lex either teaming/being a member of the Justice League. Proves he truly can be a great hero. Crisis on Two Earths, JLU finale and Reign of The Supermen are some of my favorites.
I gotta say I really do enjoy this new version of Juels, from making childish "your mom" jokes every list he VAs to giving philosophical encouragement is a massive self improvement that I am totally here for.
I like the stories where Lex is a good guy, not really when he's a super hero, so his clashes with Superman are just the idea of a man being able to stand up to a God. He doesn't want Superman to save the day, he wants a normal man to be able to. Most of the time it's normal villainy, but I like it when he's not really a bad guy he just wants to prove we don't need a Superman.
Same, honestly. He doesn't have to take the spotlight as the super hero.. But giving humanity the means to fend for it's own is a nice little trait that could be expanded on.
Lex hates Superman because he's an alien and a powerful one, but there are many other dangerous aliens much worse than Superman. He needs to address this more often.
The silly season is upon us. Lots of people thinking the wrong thing. Jules, thank you for the words of encouragement. Im going to steal those and use that and talk to my friend. Gotta call her tomorrow
I’m surprised you didn’t include what he did in the DC Universe MMO. He basically starts the entire plot by informing heroes in the past (this Lex comes from an Earth that was conquered by Brainiac) that Brainiac is coming to invade Earth, and urges the heroes and villains to work together to stop him.
Honorable mentions: Smallville version of Lex Luthor helped the heroes of his universe stop a monitor from rebooting their universe in the final arc of Smallville Season 11 comic series (recommended) In Elliot S! Maggin's fantastic Superman novel Last Son of Krypton, Lex helps Superman stop a terrible alien plot of genocide, universal domination, and... a galactic real estate scam. (seriously, it's a lot better than it sounds). In Superman #167, Luthor turned against Brainiac in order to save a planet who viewed his as a hero.
I want to see a Super-Villain team-up of: The Reverse Flash (Eobard Thawne) Lex Luthor The Joker Black Adam really i would prefer to have (The Red Death & The Shazam King Who Laughs) but those characters are No More
i dunno why beating the justice lords is above injustice, it's revealed that he helped in echange for a pardon for his crimes which he immediately starts working to undermine the justice league's public image. in injustice dude just up and sacrifices himself to try and take down a tyrant.
The Red Sun one one he stole have those ideas if not more from Superman's notes item to America was only a good country until the battle with Superman was over after work he essentially took over the world and turn into Krypton 3 Superman that story was actually his grandson about 51 Generations down the line
Lex's whole thing is just his huge ego CONSTANTLY pushing him to disavow super powered beings since he views them as never have done anything to earn where they are
Since we got Red Son I want to see a Nazi version of Superman. And have the normal Superman, Communist Superman, and Nazi Superman have a 3 way free for all. That would be great.
He spends nearly his entire life and fortune making sure an alien doesn't take our jobs. Until he can prove he has Earth Nationality he can't work here on Earth, either as a hero, on merchandise, or as a reporter.

THE JOKER is my favorite character in all of fiction.
Lex Luthor is an awesome character and perfect villain for SUPERMAN
Ya know, I constantly have to deal with being called Lex Luther due to my first name. That or Dark Lord Ulysses from my middle name.
@@ChronicSynchronizer nah that's dedication

It's likely that he always wanted to be a superhero
Yeah but his ego and I guess hate/envy of Superman makes him be a villain.

It's less hate and more envy. No one creates clone of someone that hate. Then mix their dna into the batter.

I like villains reforming to become JL members in general.
Lex luthor teaming up with rebirth Superman against doomsday was fantastic and tons of fun in my opinion.
I think that, if it weren't for Superman, Lex would be a superhero. And he really does seem to want to protect Metropolis.
So... Lexy my boy... why not beat Superman by simply being the better hero?
Lex: Why didn't I think of that!?
Without a doubt one of the most dangerous and underrated humans in comics.
