@qetuoification true story. My local tint shop has a tank of water and baby shampoo mixture hooked up to a pump with hose and spray nozzle. They swear by it and my tint is always perfect
@@FishersOffRoad thank you! I do decals all the time and order sets because I am terrible at putting them on. I wonder if that is what the tint guys do too.
I worked for a company at one time and I had to apply large and small decals to various pieces of equipment. I found that any type of "Non-Ammonia", liquid window cleaner, worked great.
Thank you very much for that demonstration, sir. I will try this out next time I place a sticker on anything, because I have been running into serious problems doing this the "normal" way. 👏
@dickfitswell3437 I only use on stickers with adhesive on them, it works on all of our stickers. We need a heat gun to take them off when we get new units every six months.
The vinyl will not stick as well to any oil or waxy surface. Use a little rubbing alcohol to clean the area where the decal will be applied. If you're applying the decal to glass, DO NOT use Windex or other ammonia-based cleaners; the ammonia interferes with the adhesive.
Use this method only if the back of the decal is white. If the back is gray, use only the dry method. The gray afhesive indicates that the decal is cast vinyl with air channels that prevent bubbles when installing. If you use a wet methid on a decal with a gray backing, the decal will fail.
Thank you for the great description! The one I’m using is white on the back. We put these decals on 25 side-by-sides, we rotate them out every six months so we don’t invest a lot of money in them. The decals hold up through mud, water & power washing every day so they do the job. 👍🏼
I worked making fibre glass water tanks and each one had 3 big stickers 7ft at least and it was hardest in high wind . Washing up liquid is the magic ingredient
Exactly right, I used to have an off-road vehicle and would apply badges to my back window of trails that I had done. Works flawlessly. Gives you pleanty of time to set it. Some decal companies have actually started including the squeegee with the decals.
Very strange, thought the surface needs to be dry or else adhesive wont stick to a wet surface. Seems like common sense. Thanks so much as I want to place a Redbull decal on car.

We put these stickers on 25 of our side-by-sides and they get power washed every single day and they don’t come off. They also see mud and lots of water out on the trails, our four hour tour has 30 Creek crossings. So these stickers, see a ton of water, mud sun And they don’t come off.
No it doesn’t, you’ll push the soapy water out when you squeegee the decal. We put them on our side-by-side rental fleet. They’re in mud & water every day and they get power washed every day as well. We need to use a heat gun just to get the decals off when we get new units every six months.

Sorry my friend, no more TV. Social media took over. Our sponsors didn’t want to invest in to TV anymore with streaming on all social outlets being so easy to watch whenever you want. Thank you for asking! 👍🏼
Can someone explain how the decal adhesive isn't effected by the soapy water? My guestimate would be this would definitely weaken the bond to some degree.
You can use Windex as well, that way you don't have to worry about ratio mix. Been using Windex on decals at a professional uplifting shop for 40 years.
That works with nearly any decal. It's how we put the huge Screaming Chicken decals on the hoods of Trans Ams back in the 80s. 😂
I was gonna say, I learned this working in a body shop in the 70s. Works wonders for pin striping

Thanks. This really helps
Use glass cleaner it leaves less residue behind the sticker. This also works with vinyl transfer decals. Good tip, keep them coming.
Same for tint. Baby shampoo works really good. Like a capful for a gallon of water.
Baby shampoo is residue-free

2 drops of Dawn in the bottle of water.

Johnsons baby shampoo works the best, and all you need is a 3-5 drops. 15 years of doing signage, you learn a thing or two. Lol

@FishersOffRoad great! Now you're an absolute pro at it. After reading everyone's experience 🤣😂

Does it work with sticky stickers or just decals? I'm thinking the soap would break down the 'stick' of the sticky backing
@dickfitswell3437 I only use on stickers with adhesive on them, it works on all of our stickers. We need a heat gun to take them off when we get new units every six months.

I have no intention on doing this amytime soon, but I often wondered how it was done so neatly!
The vinyl will not stick as well to any oil or waxy surface. Use a little rubbing alcohol to clean the area where the decal will be applied. If you're applying the decal to glass, DO NOT use Windex or other ammonia-based cleaners; the ammonia interferes with the adhesive.
It will leave your tint with a haze on it too
It seems counterintuitive but as you demonstrate here it is effective, tried and true.
I would have never guessed you'd do that. Crazy

Slightly soapy water, barely soapy. Like 8 drops of dawn dishwasher soap in the spray bottle. Don't use to much soap.
So you're saying 50/50 ratio?
I’ve seen so many different ratios, the experts have commented and said 2-3 drops of Dawn, or baby shampoo is perfect.
Baby ‘No Tears’ shampoo works best for wet-mounting decals! Our signshop does a lot of these

Won't the soapy water screw up the glue?
No it doesn’t, as a matter of fact it will dry so good you’ll probably need a hair dryer or heat gun to get it off.
@@FishersOffRoadI read that in your southern accent
Very strange, thought the surface needs to be dry or else adhesive wont stick to a wet surface. Seems like common sense. Thanks so much as I want to place a Redbull decal on car.
It works, this way you can get the decal exactly where you want it.
I would think that the soapy water would affect the integrity of the adhesive on the sticker- I guess not 👍👍👍

Soooo does repetitive car washes ruin the sticker after time? Is it better on a window instead of the paint?
We put these stickers on 25 of our side-by-sides and they get power washed every single day and they don’t come off. They also see mud and lots of water out on the trails, our four hour tour has 30 Creek crossings. So these stickers, see a ton of water, mud sun And they don’t come off.

Men are great. Thanks 😊
I learned that as a 10 year old kid putting decals on model cars I built
What kind of soap did you mix with the water? Can you use dishwashing liquid?
Yes you can, two drops of Dawn will do it.
My decal maker says specifically not to use any type of liquid
That’s because they want you to keep buying decals when you mess them up putting them on. My decal guy tells me soapy water is your best friend.
Doesn’t the soap residue stay and not allow the sticker to properly adhere overtime?
No it doesn’t, you’ll push the soapy water out when you squeegee the decal. We put them on our side-by-side rental fleet. They’re in mud & water every day and they get power washed every day as well. We need to use a heat gun just to get the decals off when we get new units every six months.
How do you keep the decal in place while squegging it?
You can hold it in place and start squeegeeing and it should stay. Just like I did in the video.
Does this work on plastics too??
