Hi Nancy Glad you enjoy it. Check out my tutorial on "Make Acrylics behave like oils" that way you can use the same techniques (or very similar anyway)
Magnificent, Rock Star! I’d like to see you paint a fantasy dragon in oils! Not your norm, I know, but I know you would do it justice! Just think of it as a big giant fire breathing pet! 😃😃😉
maz , really u r just the best , I've got ur cds & books , mazart brushes 👍🏻 I just need 2 meet you now 😀 One day !!! Can't wait 4 lesson 3 of doggy portrait 😘
Pam Pierce aww thank you ☺️. Lesson 3 is a tad behind (daughters birthday celebration plus organise a mini film studio in an out building (so once I do get going ....I’ll be flying lol). That’s the plan anyway but it’s put me behind schedule slightly ☺️.
Shersan2 I use burnt umber for EVERY colour. Brown black. White. You are painting shadow. The colour glazed go on top. Even with a chocolate lab there’ll be subtle other colours in the coat in the highlights. 😁
hi Maz. Assuming you make sure your color layers have more oil in them then the under painting, doesn't having more oil in theses colors cause coverage problems, or dripping? I've only used oils in Alla prima that this fat over lean method worries me.
Eddie Galon the paint is glazed on so thinly it’s never an issue. I mostly use the same fast dry medium throughout. If you have an issue with coverage (tho I like the underpainting hinting through in places). Jist add more layers. The final highlights can be added a bit thicker toward the end of the painting and if I do this then I don’t add medium. (Making it the final fat layer).
I love ur teachings , you are just the best , if only I could follow you without making a mistake 😱 Do You mind if I ask u ? Underpainting done 👍🏼 & then I went & did the background without doing blocking in stage , can I rectify this ? Or do I start again ? Thanking you in advance Pam aka stupid 🤣
Pam Pierce hi Pam. Nooo don’t start again it’ll be ok to do the background first (sometimes I do if it’s a large painting) my two King Charles for example (on my Facebook). Just make sure you soften the edges when you block in. Keep That mop to hand. 😁
Absolutely brilliant Marion, you make it feel as though it is so easy. Thank you very much for sharing you are such a busy girl.
I am enthralled by your work and teaching. I keep on trying. Greatest respect for you ma’m

Wonderful work! I wish you had a dog or dogs DVDS in acrylic!!! I enjoy watching and learning, even though I paint in acrylic! Thank you so much!

Do you use burnt umber on the canvas or what type of paper do you have taped on your canvas?
Lovely, lovely, well done.
What color would I use for the underpainting for a chocolate lab?

You said don't do the background after the fact because it looks like a cut out .
