Keloid, also known as keloid disorder and keloidal scar,[1] is the formation of a type of scar which, depending on its maturity, is composed mainly of either type III (early) or type I (late) collagen. It is a result of an overgrowth of granulation tissue (collagen type 3) at the site of a healed skin injury which is then slowly replaced by collagen type 1. Keloids are firm, rubbery lesions or shiny, fibrous nodules, and can vary from pink to the color of the person's skin or red to dark brown in color. A keloid scar is benign and not contagious, but sometimes accompanied by severe itchiness, pain,[2] and changes in texture. In severe cases, it can affect movement of skin. In the United States keloid scars are seen 15 times more frequently in people of sub-Saharan African descent than in people of European descent. Worldwide, men and women of African, Asian, or Hispanic descent can develop these raised scars. Some people, however, have a higher tendency to develop a keloid when they scar: such as those with a family history of keloids and people between the ages of 10 and 30 years.
Keloids should not be confused with hypertrophic scars, which are raised scars that do not grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound.

Because of having many keloids on my arms. I could never wear the clothes I like and enjoy. I am always afraid of others touching my arms and they will notice this. My biggest fear is my keloids. I have been treated with ampoule, cryo, freeze for several years. Pills, creams, none of them worked and it was good for a short time and they came back again

I got keloids all over my chest after my trip to Africa. I wasn’t wearing a shirt a lot of time because it was hot AF especially with the humidity. I got mosquito bites. Months later I noticed large dark bumps forming on my chest. After 8 years of continuous steroid injection treatment all my scars went down. Now I’m using scar gel to make the keloids less visible. Just be consistent and patient. The keloids will go away

Man this is suffering I thought it's just an acne appeared in my chest when I was 14 it suddenly grows slowly years after years. I'm 24 now and still painful I felt it's really growing when it gets painful I already have 3 in my chest and others smaller ones started to appearing it's really scary when I get older. I never wearing a thin t shirt unless it's Polo Shirt and a pure cotton to cover the bump.

heard they always come back from injections, I think surgery is the only way forward but it has to be a proper surgeon, I once did a surgery but he did not improve it or do anything apart from cost me lots of money! You cannot get rid of it 100% but just like most id bet many just want it smoother and flat.

Most of mine came from deep tissue damage burns or deep bruises that literally like burned my skin and not getting to clean my wounds thoroughly my theory is the lack of maintenance on a wound will cause the skin to stay inflamed and not heal properly

@@chevaughngoshine2982 Yup sounds right I was similar in my case and did not keep it clean at first, it was an injury on my chest during a DIY job. I scraped my skin, was unaware of the tiny cut, few weeks later it just healed into a large round lump. I believe they say its healed tissue overlapped tissue. Cosmetic surgery is the only way to make it appear flatter or more normal but it would cost a big price sadly.

Anyone had success with Laser or Cyro therapy? I did the steroid treatment and it never worked. My keloids are on a spot the is visible to the public and can't cover it without looking weird. I don't want to do surgery in fear it'll grow and make it look uglier. Now I'm stuck with this skin blemish that will get uglier for failing to get rid of it.

Laser treatment doesn’t work for me too.. I think the best for me is surgery because I don’t get keloids from wounds. I only get keloids from acne

@@JhinGamer yeah. it is so weird but I’m happy about it. I had lots of wounds during my training. that includes the chest, shoulders, and my back but non of it became keloid. I even tried piercing my chest to know if it will turn keloid but it did not. the keloids in my chest are from my teenage acne. And when I pop it, it doesn’t turn to keloid anymore. Hope surgery works for me.

@@alainronielcastigador9412 can you let me know how this goes for you? I also have keloids, they're all over my shoulders and chest from having acne when I was like 14 and I'm 24 now, still got them bad despite doing the injections of steroids treatments many times. Literally had doctors ask me what surgery I had or how I was cut when I literally didn't even have any cuts on my shoulders and chest. I've had many other injuries in my life and it's never resulted in a keloid scar. Does this mean surgery could be an option for me also?
