We are from Long Island, NY. My wife and I saw this great band many times in NYC. At the end of one of their shows at the Roadhouse, Levon walked right by us. My wife asked for his autograph. His response was " Sure, just let me put a dry shirt on, come by the bus" The bus was parked just outside the front door. We walked up to the door of the bus, she was allowed in, I had to wait by the door. Anyway, she got a picture with Levon and Randy Ciarlante as well as Levons autograph.
Sadly, on one of the anniversaries of Levons passing, his family had allowed guests into their property in Woodstock. We went into his barn, checked out his drum set. We also went to Levons and Ricks gravesite. They are just a short walk away from each other.
Never again, will a band like this exist. We are glad we got to see them as often as we did. music today sucks!!!

The news about Robbie Robertson just prompted Rick Beato to do a livestream about everyone we've lost recently. Tony Bennett. David Crosby. Sinead O'Connor. And now Robbie.
I am 70, and have always been amused that nearly EVERY great artist that I used to listen to, are about ten years older than I. The early-1940's certainly gave us a lot of talent, it seems. Before we know it, all we will have left is the memories of these greats. Sound recording. Video. Movies. Thank God someone came up with all of those, because in some ways, the Great will never die.

I treasure a very faded t-shirt from a performance, possibly that show in Levon's barn.
She sang, wrote, played guitar, violin, keyboards in an early 2000s band in Austin, and my son played drums.

Second half the house was blown away by Dylan & this tight tight tight electric back-up band. Dylan referred to this band as "The Hawks." The guy on bass was all about the groove, two keyboards (!) was unheard of, the drummer was a - singing-drummer(!), & out in front, calling the counts, was the guitar player in the band. None of the players were there to impress anyone in the crowd, they were there to do their job, they were the band.

This has nothing to do with the best music ever. But , Rick Danko was my favorite out of the band. This is a beautiful song.
    Rest in musical peace Rick.❤🎉

I'd love a cut of The Last Waltz that features just The Band. I've made a Spotify playlist of it and it's possibly the best live album ever. Much as I love Joni, Neil, the Hawk, Van the Man etc, it's a very disparate gathering giving you very little time to focus on any of them individually. Throw in people like Neil Diamond and Muddy Waters and it makes for uneven viewing.
I would also love to have seen some long shots during this incendiary performance of Stagefright. Not just to see this telepathic group of musicians all working their magic together but also for a view of the horn section that provided the incredible finale to the song here.

Robbie wrote it and Rick is singing it. Pure perfection.
