From 2:50 on....that beautiful lead guitar from Robbie and the appreciation for it Van shows when he just pauses a bit and says 'yeh' at 3:00....love it.
The INDISPUTABLE thing about GOOD music is its TIMELESSNESS. Long after we and Van inevitably become “cosmic dust,” this beautifully filmed record will exist, to show FUTURE generations, what PASSION, and yes, SOUL, are all about. 😔😊
Those guys go all out. It is amazing to me, how something that is in a few creative souls can, in one instance, find joyful celebratory acceptance in many generations to come. Van and Robbie are poetic masters of just such phenomena.
The one and only Van Morrison. Loved you then and love you now. You are amazing singing an amazing song!!!! TURN IT UP...TURN IT UP..LITTLE BIT HIGHER...
"Turn it up! Turn it up! Little bit higher! Radio! Turn it up! That's enuff! So you know. It's got soul now. So you know. So you know it's got soul, baby."
So true. That kind of raw emotion can't be captured in a studio. It develops on stage with the collaboration of all the musicians. He almost didn't even go out on stage that night because of stage fright. Hard to believe he still had anxiety after he was so well established.
You can like both versions. Nothing chills me out quite like the studio version. But this version is electric. Won't be listening to it to de-stress after a long day, though; that's what the studio version is for.
Van actually pulled a muscle doing the kicks at the end of the song and that is why he sort of left abruptly, BUT not without doing one last “move” during his exit. That exit is prob one of my favorite things about the whole show.
Fantastic performance by Van Morrison. The Last Waltz was an incredible concert. The most extraordinary thing about it was that Ronnie Wood was nowhere to be seen.
This is a real classic...the Band and Van...love the inflexion he uses and the feeling he puts into it..goose-bump material...dont make music like that anymore.
Van's dress rehearsal performance evening of 24th put even this show stopper in another universe. Incredible. He floated two feats above the stage. Not Little or Lowell
@@filmsmadeover-easy1996 he walked off before the last big boom 💥 but pulled a muscle, doing the leg kicks, drops the 🎤 🎙 mic and Away backstage for a bottle of jamison, some horse 🐎 and Bolivian marching powder, but still stole the show in my humble opinion

For a few seconds it sounded like Mr Robert Johnson. Clapton put many years into getting this sound down as well as just acoustic. Clapton will stand the test of time.
The Irish are full of soul some of the greatest artists have Irish and Scottish ancestry. Bluegrass, Country, Folk in the US came from us here in the UK.
Don't think so, it's well documented that he had a severe case of stage fright before this performance. He hadn't preformed in at least 3 yrs before doing this show.
Just read in Clinton Heylin’s biography that he tried to leave before the concert to change out of those leotards he was wearing - Robbie wouldn’t let him so he was really freaked out before he went on. Turn it up!!!! Awesome. Stole the show. Kinda like what Billy Preston did at Bangladesh
@@rkcfish204 Van's manager practically had to kick him onto the stage. This performance is much like his "It's Too Late to Stop Now" performance with the Caledonia Soul Orchestra, right down to the kicks at the end
@1993 read Robbie Robertson’s book “Testimony”. Van is also known to be a very private/ introverted person so ya know he had to have taken a line before taking the stage here.
Paying tribute to Robbie and The Band today. R.I.P. Robbie. It’s been a helluva ride. Long live Garth.
That outfit definitely belongs in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame!
OK but dryclean it first.

I love the way that counterpoint melody sneaks in sideways towards the end then just BAM takes center stage.
One of my fave parts in music history. The camera sweeps by the back of the Band

I love how amused the Band were by Van and especially his awesome exit. One of my favs
Yeah he had horrible stage anxiety. They almost had to force him to even perform. Levon talks about it wonderfully in his biography.
As did some of the Band. They even wrote a little song about it 😊
He looked winded, but finished the set with style.
He pulled a muscle with the leg kicks @alexpilgrim8248
I thought he left as he pulled a muscle with the leg kicks? Maybe its just a good yarn? What do I know
This is where “drop the mic” was first seen and we all heard the moment. Van the Man drop the mic cuz he can. Love. Him.
Are you saying that a mic drop started cos van? I didn't know that? Also he dropped the mic 🎤 greatly
