Hi this is actually Heather (amanda's daughter). What i found a bit helpful at one point was, if you have your own text book, get different coloured highlighters and highlight the key information so when you are reading through, you dont have to go searching through all that unnecessary information. I also have coloured & labled tags on my pages so it doesnt take as long to find the page imlokking for in the book :)
Whoops forgot to mention that the reason forthe different highlighters is: (for example) i am a psychology student and we where recently doing different functions of the brain. So for that entire unit i went through and highlited all the main locations and fuctions in two similar colours (pink and orange) and all the extra information in another two similar colours (light green and dark green) and then all the *useful* examples in another colour (yellow). So i can find the exact information i want easily!
Jemima, can you please do a video on how to conquer homework. I have so much trouble getting around to doing home work and there is SO MUCH of it now in year 10! My teachers (multiple times) have said to just create a planner or keep a diary or something, and (multiple times) it has just turned into MORE WORK. Is it normal for a dislexic 15 year old to be this un-motivated to do home work? If you could do a study bite for this that would be awesome! Thank you 😁😁
I have so much trouble taking notes. Uni gave me a program called Sonocent which records my lecture and I can load the PowerPoint slides, as the teachers talks and clicks through the slides, I click my recording to the next slide. So when I review the lecture, I know when slides I wanna hear again. It works well if the teacher doesn’t jump around the slides etc. but I have a subject this semester and the teacher doesn’t use slides 😣 my notes are all over the place. I can’t arrange my notes in order and when I tried using one note, it was so messy. I don’t know where any information is. I don’t know whats important info. Also I’m interested in learning mapping. I was recommended that visual learning is better for me.
Great to hear that your Uni is being really supportive Lauretta. My uni automatically records all lectures for me which is fantastic as I can also adjust the speed of these recordings. If your teacher doesn't use slides, perhaps you could ask your uni for a 'note taker' who is essentially a student in the class who takes notes on your behalf. That way you can simply listen and not have to worry so much about trying to write everything down neatly. Hope this helps! New video on mind mapping coming soon!

Look up executive dysfunction and search it on YT. Many of us with dyslexia also have other neurodivergent issues like ADHD &/or ASD.
