    Amazing to learn that Rolex does actually care about vintage. News to me.

    Not sure eBay was the best choice for a watch of this caliber.

    While stationed in Germany in the 60s, I traveled to Rolex in Geneva and was told they did not restore nor service their watches!

    I purchased the same watch in 1986 from a ad for 850 which included tax. At the time people thought i was crazy for paying so much for a watch.

    Gee wiz, watchuwant sell pieces like this on eBay? Gives me even greater confidence in the platform, I sell all my watches on the 'bay. Just checked out the auction. I'd make a bid, if my wealth was about 5 times more than it is :-(

    Watchbox team, aren't you worried that the Ebay Authentication team can literally ruin this vintage Rolex? They will open the case back and may tinker with it for "authentication" purpose.
    Please comment.

    I was thinking.. Awesome, awesome, yes, yes,... ok $2000.. ok.. hmm. $15000, nevermind, I'm good with the random scratches. I wonder if this hurts the resale value, it'll be interesting to find out what this ends up going for..

    Did they do the restoration just because it’s from someone with influence?

      Probably an Arab Royal family member or Russian Oil oligarch? A Latin American dictator? A Mafioso crime syndicate boss? The mind boggles at the possibilities. You have to be absolute top dog level for Rolex do to this. They wouldn't even spit on you if you were on fire.

  • @cdt114

    Do the original hands come with it? Wouldn't it make more sense for that price to put non-lumed hands on something like this?

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews  2 года назад

      If they were still serviceable, they would have remained fit to watch. Rolex retains any original part that can remain for functional purposes even if imperfect. If Rolex itself couldn't get these to stay put on their pinions, then there was no opening to re-fit them even in theory for historical reasons. And it's entirely possible that the hands in place prior to restoration were already service replacement or incorrect hands with no historical value in either case.
      Best,
      Tim

    • @cdt114
      @cdt114 2 года назад

      @@the1916companywatchreviews Sure, but it just seems to me that for that price they could make up some hands with just paint and no lume. This lume, assuming it is modern, will be there "forever" and will always look wrong after uv exposure.

      @@cdt114 your looking for imperfections to find faults

      @@cdt114 Agreed. You'd think period correct hands would be a better choice. Looks like air conditioning on a Model T- it's a nice feature, but it's not supposed to be there, lol.

    Makes today's Daytona look absolutely ghastly by comparison. A lost era of watch-making. This is the finest Rolex I have ever seen. That and the blue dial Oysterquartz.
