Is this just me or does this thing resemble the towers from Lord of the Rings?: I was half-expecting a giant flaming eye or Saruman casting an evil spell from the top.
I think it's pretty sleek looking for a tower that big. Love the amber color...especially in the rising and setting sun. Feels like an appropriate shade for Brooklyn somehow.
…apparently they made a provision for the extra density/height to provide a certain amount of low cost rental housing (whether on site or off site, I’m not sure).
It’s beautiful and I love how they incorporated the old bank, but the apartments feel like hotel rooms to me. They don’t feel homey and comfy like a place you would live… and then they’re the rent, but that’s no surprise being in New York.
I didn't know they had skyscrapers in Brooklyn until I saw a helicopter tour video. I assumed Brooklyn still had small and medium sized buildings based on the TV shows set there. Looks like Brooklyn will be the new Manhattan.
Brookyln actually is biggger and more populated then manhatten just has more well a lot more space so it doesn’t show . Downtown brookyln turning into new manhatten
Lol beautiful building but the surrounding neighborhood is a different story. Worked over there for a few years. Human poop on the sidewalk wasn’t a surprise.
confused: NYC is supposed to be dead: jobs are leaving the city; companies are leaving in droves, along with large portions of the population; there are empty store fronts everywhere and rent is through the roof (which also makes no sense) yet construction of these mega-apartment buildings go on and on .... who is going to live there?
Storefronts are empty because of theft...so a lot of businesses are forced to close...NYC is alive and well...don't believe everything you see on the Internet
I live on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn and every day we have to look at this UGLY black building. It's an absolute eye sore bc of the color. It doesn't look brown. it looks black
i grew up in that neighborhood (red hook) and i still have family there. the area was mainly single family homes which are being purchased by developers who are constructing these monstrosities which allows a vast amount of new residents which the neighborhoods can not possibly support. the rents are outrageous and if you drive a car its impossible to find parking
@@Tony-. Honestly imo I think that coastal cities across the globe will need to relocate, a sea wall can only do so much and isn’t feasible for every coastal city. Take Miami for example, it’s all the rage now but in 20-30 years smart people will be moving and not looking back.
@@richard09able The wall removes the threat of a tsunami, and slow flooding does not pose a risk of loss of life to the population. Japan simply has nowhere to go, they build walls and live. Relocation of an entire metropolis will be much more expensive. At a minimum, due to the cost and risk of such structures, part of the population will relocate, and the price may be that the city will be slowly abandoned without upheavals and shocks.

Hmmm honestly, not that impressed. It's in a very closed area with no real sport parks or large parks area anywhere near it. Plus, it's residential. That means it's not someplace the general public will be able to go and take in a few. Saudi Arabia is absolutely putting us to shame with their mega projects. Well done indeed, Brooklyn needs more rich people. The poor should move to Newark or New Rochelle or the Bronx.

My question is how will the city ( not just Manhattan) cope with rising sea levels by several feet by end of century?
By building special walls of course. They are built wide so that, if necessary, they can be built higher.
