According to Ben Foster, the double European Cup winning, title winning Peter Shilton who was goalkeeper for England at three world cups was a worse player than Jordan Pickford whose career highlight is avoiding relegation with Everton
Sure.
and two European cups with Nottingham Forest (Shilton)
Pickford was a huge reason England made it to the Semi-Finals of the World Cup saving 2 penalties in the shootout against Colombia and would’ve gotten the golden glove if England had beat Italy in the final of the Euros. He’s about to ellipse ray clemence to be in the top 5 in appearances and Gordon banks for clean sheets. Also yes he pretty much single-handedly kept Everton up. It’s all opinions but he’s disrespected way too often
Yeah it was a nothing statement wasn’t it . Mind you he lost all credibility in the debate when he said footballers are better now . Plus seaman wasn’t old when nayim done him from the halfway line either. Shilton was a giant in goal . I wonder how Pickford would get on playing without gloves on the pitches they used to play on
That says more about Everton than Pickford, he's always been excellent playing for England
@@AlexStevens10not better than Shilton or Banks yet
Gordon Banks best ever english gk
1. Gordon Banks
2. Peter Shilton
3. David Seaman
4. Ray Clemence
5. Jordan Pickford
Seaman blew the WC
@voetbal12 kane blew the Euros but still one of the best strikers to play for England
Ray Clemence was better than David Seaman
@@marditoon1128Yes, people forget for a long time Ray Clemence was first choice over Peter Shilton.
seaman could never keep a clean sheet!😮
I always thought Nigel Martyn was massively underrated
Top shout man, thought he was a seriously good keeper!
Should of been Englands number 1.
@@JustMeHere359 Over Seaman? GTFO
As a Leeds fan couldn’t agree more
Agree mate, 100%.
Bents face when goldsgein says Beckham 😂 1:05
Banks, Shilton, Seaman, Woods, Clemence
Shilton played in the same England team as Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Alan Ball. He also played in the same England team as John Barnes, Peter Beardsley and Paul Gascoigne.
Hart and Pickford above Clemence, Shilton and Banks. That's hilarious. He needs a netflix special with that level of comedy gold.
Banks, Shilton and Clemence, in that order for me. To put Hart and Pickford (both good keepers) above them is ludicrous.
@@RockandRollMusic00 For England, I agree, but I'd swap Clemence and Shilton when you look at their whole careers because I think Clem was more consistent playing for his clubs. Pickford shouldn't even make the list.
@@chrispalmer7893 To be fair, Shilton played behind some far dodgier defences in his time than Ray and I still give him the nod. Having said that, both were superb keepers and putting one over the other is certainly no slight on either of them.
@@RockandRollMusic00 I agree it's a tight call. I'd argue that Clemence was a contributory factor to how good those defences were, but yeah, both true greats and both substantially better than Pickford and Hart.
Ridiculous!
Foster not seen Banks on Pele 1970. The best save ever. I think Banks was English
Well I hope he was, since he was playing for England when he made that save.
The best
@@Dude0000😂😂
He has seen it, it's shown all the time in England
He sure is
He's got Pickford and Hart ahead of Clemence and Shilton, and no Gordon Banks?🤷♂️
Agreed… Pickford and Hart over Shilton was the first thing I thought?? Jesus Christ..
Neville Southall in his prime was the best goalkeeper in the world
He was wish. But he was pretty good
Perfect analysis of Alison Becker at the end. There aren't a lot of clips of him making fantastic saves, because his movement and positioning makes the save look easy. He does exactly what Foster says, he will see the striker drop his shoulder, so he moves in anticipation, and plucks the ball out of the top corner for an easy looking catch, rather than a eye-popping cat like save at full stretch.
Nr.1 Gordon Banks, hands down!
Joe Hart was the first keeper we had in so long where i thought we had a competent, good goalkeeper
You must be about 12 😂
@@JamieFromLancs Joe Hart was way way way better than Rob Green, Ben Foster, Paul Robinson and David James
Seaman in 96 was unplayable. 96 does not feel that long ago.
@@bilal00276 Not sure if Joe Hart was that much better than David James. In his prime, I mean in the 90s, James was a top top keeper, particularly shot stopping but was liable for the odd error unfortunately. The errors James made were exaggerated in the press in my view, but he still made them. Joe Hart was also liable for the odd error as well though.
10:58 u love what???😂
Ben Foster when he sees Joe Hart: "What's up my tigger?"
lmao
1. Gordon Banks 2. David Seaman 3. Peter Shilton 4. Ray Clemence 5 Peter Bonnetti.
Gordon Banks closely followed by Peter the Great. Peter the Great actually emulated Gordon's most famous save ! After that it'll be Ray Clemence Peter Shilton and Edwin Van De Sar.
Best keeper ever lev yashin. I have spoken
how many games of his did you watch?
You never watched him play.
Pretty sure he wasn't English.
So winning the 1963 ballon dor, only keeper ever to win it wasnt good enough, the 64 olympic games gold medalist, and the european championshipSo winning the 1963 ballon dor, only keeper ever to win it wasnt good enough, the 64 olympic games gold medalist, and the european championship
there is hundreds hours of him playing aswell. all yee boys know is the last ten years and playing fifa
The first few times after seeing Joe Hart in a England shirt, after the like of Gordon Banks, Ray Clemence
Peter Shilton, David Seaman. I thought to my self, that the run off good keepers is over for England
Gordon Banks is the best you got. Well, maybe there was someone in 1909 or something like that but no one alive could testify about that. Its Banks, Clemence, Shilton...if you expand it to "British" then add Southall and Jennings.
In what order
Jennings way better than Shilton and clemence
1- Seaman.
2- Hart.
3- Clemence.
4- Pickford or Pope.
5- Shilton.
Pope could be higher but he hasn't had enough game time but he has the potential and talent to be much higher up the list.
Now he's mentioned Pav Srnicek and Shay Given as someone he admired when growing up Ben Foster is definitely my favourite ex ManU player!!
"As what? A jockey?" 🤣🤣
Yeah, Pep watched that Chile v England friendly and decided he'd sign Bravo when he got to City in 2016. Nothing to do with his 7 years in La Liga before that, his two years at Barcelona after that or his performances at World Cups and Copa Americas. It was a friendly v England.
Ben Foster … Brilliant 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
In no order but it's gotta be Banks, Shilton, Seaman, Hart, and Pickford for me. Ray Clemence could probably replace Hart or Pickford. Separately I rate Seamans save vs Sheff United as the greatest save ever made.
Either people are too young or dont remember but I've not seen too many keepers who can throw a ball like Schmeichel could. It was a massive weapon for United.
But it's no comparison to Alisson or especially Ederson with his feet, mate. That's just what football is these days.
I remember. He was incredible.
Gordon banks 100 per cent remember that save from pele pele couldnt believe he stopped it
Yep. No brainer. Seen them all. Clemence at 2 then prime Seaman I think
Oops. Shilton at 2. Clemence at 3.
Short memories here. Peter Shelton was widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world in his day, so was David Seaman. I'm not sure how highly rated Gordon Banks was before winning the world cup and can sometimes make players seem better than they were, but he deserves a shout too. All world class keepers.
Banks was FIFA Goalkeeper of the year for 6 years in a row.. 66 to 71. And remember Lev Yashin was still playing
Go on Ben!
Right top 5 keepers
1. Ian Walker
2. Frazer Digby
3. Kevin Pressman
4. Tim Flowers
5. Paul Gerrard
How much have you had to drink?
@@overcorpse have u seen frazer digby !!???
@@Strangegloves No. But I have seen Ian Walker. Tim Flowers and Kevin Pressman
tell you what if England were in a penalty shootout tomorrow and I could have any English goalkeeper past or present then I'd go with Kevin Pressman all day long
@@Matthew-bu7fg And the preceding 90 plus 30?
English; Alex Stepney, Jim Corrigan, Les Sealey, John Burridge, Peter Bonetti, Nigel Martin, Chris Woods. Other British; Pat Jennings, Neville Southall
No Gordon Banks best save ever from Pele!
Id have to go Banks,Peter Shilton or Ray Clemence,Chris Woods,Seaman.
Should of been top goalkeepers in the premier league because having hart and Pickford over shilton is criminal
1. Banks
2. Seaman
3. Clements
4. Shilton
5. Nobody worth mentioning.
There have been standout English goalkeepers, but they were there before the Premier League. Shilton in his prime was without doubt one of them!
As a Evertonian Putting Ray Clemence at no.5 WHAT!. Ray was top class.
I think it has alot to do with the skill gap between keepers. I genuinely believe the difference between bottom of the Premier league gaolkeepers aren't that far away from the top of league one level.
Gordon banks, shilton, Clements, bonetti, Ron springett.
Massive difference is that English goalkeepers used to be taught to catch the damn ball. When you look at the the Buffons and Ter Stegens of this world they just learn daft continental ideas like pushing the ball out into the area and punching and patting the ball as a means of saving it and then trying dumbshit stuff like trying to dribble out in the six yard box under pressure from forwards...
Gordon Banks is still head shoulders and anything else you care to mention above any other goalkeeper that has ever lived. Putting Pickford, Hart and Seaman above Clemence and Shilton is the act of someone who never saw Clemence and Shilton play (obviously too young to even know who Gordon Banks was). I am a big Ben Foster fan, but you need to educate yourself buddy.
No 1. Only England World Cup winning GK: Gordon Banks
Banksie .... Wonder Save against Pele and 66 World Cup
Best goal keeper of all time: Lev Yashin, USSR.
Top 5 ever English keepers! Gordon Banks, Peter Shilton, David Seaman, Ray Clemence and Alex Stepney, no modern day keepers in my list because the can't catch a simple cross or shot.
1. Banks. 2. Peter. 3. Ray 4. David Seaman 5. Pickford
Ben's got his list back to front
How could you forget GORDON BANKS! Our world cup wimning goalkeeper! Even Pele was amazed by his skill.
And also YASHIN
Jack Butland came to Glasgow and started make his best saves. Get him called up
"Never a standout English keeper": Gordon Banks? Peter Shilton? Ray Clemence?
Seaman spillage, that will be hard to swallow
Spurs fan here, David Seaman number 1 all day long. Legend.
Paul Robinson was pretty good tho.
Ben Foster, David seaman,Joe Hart all played for Birmingham
lol Cláudio bravo didn’t start that there already was Neuer, Valdez
I think there are a few great goalkeepers around the world that could get in to that group of worlds best
Lev yashin
Dino zoff
Taferelle
Vandersaar
Neville Southall
Neville southall legend hahah
Funny paul robinson wasnt mentioned at all. Considering he scored against foster from 90 yards away lol.
Get Ben foster on the show, all the time, brilliant 👏
5. P. Shilton
4. D. Seaman
3. J. Hart
2. N. Pope
1. G. Banks
Best of all-time.
10. G. Buffon
9. Ricardo
8. Dida
7. T. Howard
6. S. Given
5. E. v.d. Sar
4. O. Kahn
3. G.Banks
2. P. Schmeichel
1. P. Cech
Never been a standout English goalkeeper? Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton???
To say Ederson is better than Schmeichel is laughable. Ederson is great with his feet but his save percentage is poor. Put him in a lower team he wouldn't be great. Schmeichel would save any team 10 points a season
Wrong. Ederson best in the world last year. City treble harder competition and tougher opposition.
@renderxtravels8464 one season mate. Schmeichel 10 years
@@kevinmcnicoll8649 edersons been at City for literally years. Winning trophies 🤣 guarantee by the time Ederson leaves City, he would have won more.
@renderxtravels8464 yes but has had seasons like this where his shot save percentage is shite. Schmeichel probably had 1 season in 10 years where he was poor and that was when he was getting older
We've never had any setled number ones... Clemence AND Shilton both got > 90 caps AT THE SAME TIME. And remember at the time they were one and three in the world with Pat Jennings as number two for twenty years continuously
Ray Clemence had 61 and Peter Shilton 125
@@Nykona-Sharrowkyn Still pretty impressive. (I'd say Shilton was the better England keeper, but I'd prefer to have Clemence in my club side)
@@chrispalmer7893 I wouldn't mind either, both were truly great goalkeepers
@@Nykona-Sharrowkyn That's fair.
Phil Jagielka with an honorable mention
Absolutely Peter schmeichel is the best gk the premier league has seen
Dave Seaman arguably wasn't as great a shot stopper as Nigel Martyn or Tim Flowers, although he could pull off the odd worldy (Peschisolido). However Seaman was great at penalties and commanded his area particularly well and was consistent. There's a reason hes called safe hands.
Joe Hart the only goalkeeper to constantly dive over the ball on every penalty he faced in shootouts
'There's never been a real standout England goalkeeper' wtf? Really?
Never heard of:
1) Gordon Banks. 2) Peter Shilton. 3) Ray Clemence. 4) David Seaman. 5) Frank Swift. Dude, do some research
Under valuing Schmeicel because of this "feet" bullshit. Did you watch him? He did it with his throwing. Split many a defence apart!
As a city fan yes hart is a Man City legend
Keepers don't get good until they hit mid - late 20's, so a keeper coming through the system is always going to be behind their more experienced counterpart
Lev Yashin, Buffon and Dino Zoff would make that top 5 look daft.
Ederson i think this season is showing his frailties. Good with his feet but his shot stopping isnt amazing.
Banks shilton seaman in that order
Goldstein and Bent great together.Goldstein is class 😂😂 Funny. Not like the bullies Brazil and Gabby.
Banks every day of the week.
Comparing Schmeichel's footwork to Allison isn't like for like as he wasn't asked to do it. He played before before the backpass rule.
Shilton
Seamen
Clemence
Southall, Welsh I know! Brilliant.
Banks
In no order... Banks, Shilton, Clemence, Parks, Seaman
No mention of Joe Corrigan, Nigel Martyn, Gordon Banks or Pat Jennings. Hart and Pickford are no where near those 4
Where's Scott Carson ? He's won more trophies than any English Keeper 😂
Athletico madrid produced fantastic keepers over time. Not sure they were their academy or not.
Shilton
Banks
Seaman
Then any other 3 average goal keeper's
Tbh the only top class keepers England have had in my lifetime are Joe Hart and David Seaman.
Seaman staines!
Captain Pugwash 😊
Can’t argue with seaman 1 and hart 2
If you didn’t know he was a professional keeper you’d think he was some random clueless fan.. these takes are diabolical
Gordon banks????
Peter Shilton wasn’t even Stoke’s best ever English keeper!!
Gordon Banks - World Cup winner, nearly ten years as Englands number one, cut short by a tragic accident, and save of the century against pele.
What about Pat Jennings!!
He was not English
yes I know but I would put him above the others!! 👍
Peter Bonetti was class.
Best ever, but he's from Northern Ireland
@@m4fsjSo if you knew Jennings is Northern Irish, why mention him when the topic is about English goal keepers
Pickford is England greatest goalkeeper😊
Buffon… best ever. And came through the ranks at Palma.
van der Sar came through the ranks at Ajax too.
Parma* 😂
Edwin van der sar... Best Utd keeper
did Goldbridge put a word in for Ben?
Obviously he never watched Gordon Banks and his save in the 1970 World Cup.
Pickford on a par with David James. It's same as the golden generation was, the keeper is the weak link, it was James then and it's Pickford now, although to be fair the centre halves are also poor now.
Foster you have had a shocker, Pickford and Hart over Banks, Shilton and Clemence ha ha ha and Seaman whoops its gone over my head number 1 jokes !!!
Cech❤️
Ederson is not better than Schmeichel, allison is better overall i think
Schmeichel couldn't do what Ederson does in the Manchester City team
Ederson couldn't do what Schmeichel did in the 1999 Manchester United team
They're too different to directly compare
Peter Schmeichel didn't need feet his distribution with his arms was insane.
6 times FIFA Goalkeeper of the year, WC winner Gordon Banks.. Recency bias is so unreal!!
I doubt Shelton was taller than 6 foot. Certainly not 6’4”
