      I think Pique was there to talk about his pet project(King's League). The rest where just hooks for us. Could be wrong but it just felt that way. Doesn't feel genuinely out of the interest of football.

    4:30 this is why barca la masia has the advantage over other academy.. it’s the same structure and style so players like cubarsi and lamine already knows where the players are occupying space positionally and what they need to do in certain situations instantly
    Man city has been doing the same(copying)
    Difference is we focus on strengthening the first team.. we are not a selling team whereas man city focuses providing cover for first team and also selling them as its counted as pure profit for ffp reasons
    Basically they don’t generate enough money from other resources so they kinda have to do it when opportunity arises

    I have to disagree with Pique with regards to defenders couldn't hack it in this day and age. I know of one who could and who was consistent in each decade for 30 years and that is Paolo Maldini.
    In fact, defenders in this day and age aren't even defenders hence the reason why after 2010, defending has got much worse and the reason why the likes of Messi were made to look even greater due to this.

      @hiddensword9387 9 месяцев назад

      That's non sense. The game is so much faster now that players of the past would struggle to keep up. Maldini was an exception, he also changed positions as he got older. The defending is top notch today and you would never be allowed the space you had in the past these days. The game is played way too tight now for that to happen. he game changes, go and watch footage from the 20's with Dixie Dean, he wouldn't be scoring all those goals in todays climate he would probably be a holding player like a Heskey or Drogba.

      @@hiddensword9387 Not only you failed to fully read or understand my comment, your comment clearly shows your lack of understanding of the game.
      Defending in the current era, is poor in comparison to 15 years ago due to the emphasis of playing from the back resulting in teams hiring defenders who are good at passing/attacking in the similar mould of David Luiz but slightly better defensively.
      John Terry was one of the best defenders in the world and the premier league and was slow and he made up for it with his positioning and understanding of the game, hence the reason why Messi and Cristiano stated that John Terry was one of the toughest defenders they ever played against.
      The greatest Barcelona team, even better than the current Man City team, had the hardest time beating or losing to a team which had Messi in it and even he struggled against was the 2004-2012 Chelsea. This team not only had a great spine, with great leaders, they were great defensively and these guys defended the way it supposed to be done.
      I coach and manage 8-14 year olds at grass roots football and over the years and even now, I have had and still have scouts from Premier League and Championship clubs attending the matches and they have always selected players for which met a specific criteria to join their football academy. For example, a scout from Leeds Utd chose to sign one of my players who was quick on the wing but his technical ability was nowhere near as good as as the other kid on my team who was great with his feet and pretty quick and the Brentford scout chose one of my other boys who was a defender and was technically great and but defending wasn't that great and when I asked recommended the scouts better players for the position, the response I got was "that's the attribute the clubs looking for and they don't really care about the other attributes because the way the clubs philosophy is"
      I would suggest that you go back to school to learn English as this would improve your understanding of the language and yes I know what I am talking about.

      That wasn't his point though. He means, the way they played then wouldn't work today. As the way they may have played in previous decades wouldn't have worked in the 90's. Also, the players are immensely dedicated today, very professional, fit and don't go as crazy on the partying as they did in the past. Pique also made the point that most players would have to start from a young age to develop the dominant style of today, it would be rare for a player to come in later in age and pick it up.

      Just for the record, Pep Failed at Bayern, most managers would have succeeded at that amazing Barcelona team he had.
      Fergie worked miracles at Aberdeen and what have United won since Sir Alex resigned despite over £1.5 Billion spent on players under 5 different managers within the past 10 years.
