A great recording, outstanding in every way. I especially enjoy Georg's Evangelist, and he is perhaps the most convincing of all who have ever sung that role. He is truly sincere in it. Like all DK recordings, this one truly captures the zeitgeist of the time, almost as if Schütz himself were being channeled. Bravi.
My first experience of Schütz was through this work as a 17 year old. Is it really fifty years ago that I heard and superficially studied it? The recoding I listened to was on Decca with Roger Norrington. No version will ever remove my affection for that recording, but this performance was excellent. The angel and the shepherds have the best music, and your soloists took full advantage of it. I have the complete recordings on order now. I shall be heretical for a moment. I can live without Bach, but not without Schütz!
There has never lived a greater composer than HS. I listen to his music literally every day (including of course your recordings) and often arrange some of his most appropriate music for brass instruments. Like Gwailo54, I was turned on to him in my teenage years, stumbling on the awesome Rilling recordings on Nonesuch (now hard to find). The were not "authentic" by today's standards, but still capture the essence of the Master, often in very cool ways (the tremolos in Freut Euch!) I have made pilgrimages to Saxony and Dresden in particular and am grateful for your dedication along with so many in Schütz homeland, and that so many more in my country are learning about what an outstanding artistic output Schütz brought to our (and his own) troubled world. @@dresdnerkammerchor
Sei solo eccessivo.
Danke!
May I take this unexpected opportunity to thank you for your complete recording of Schutz for Carus-Verlag, which has brought me immeasurable pleasure.
This is an interesting view. Can you explain, where and how you find opera in here? How do you hear the egos of the performers in here? What is most important for you in performances of Schütz? In our Schütz performances it is always our most important goal, to make the speech an the text as lively and naturally as possible - for we are sure, this was also Schütz' utmost concern: bringing speech and music together most naturally.
@@dresdnerkammerchor Maybe I am too harsh as this seems to be a modern phenomenon that applies to everyone when the cameras are on and soloists begin to project their personalities into the music with vibrato and a bit too much histrionics. When we are dealing with the absolute truest music ever created (Schütz) and you listen to older DGG Archiv recordings without the cameras the music comes through and the singing is plainer. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore your videos and especially Auferstehungshistorie. This music is just too precious to me. Even my son watches sometimes. = )

I’m recommending this to my friends and family as being a) first-rate and b) seasonal - suitable for Advent and Christmas!
Fantastic music and performance. Thanks!
Sehr schön! Danke!

Very lively, a great performance!
Oh wow, what a confession! Thank you. It is great to get to know more and more people from around the world, who share our big enthusiasm for Schütz.

Performers have to put their egos aside - this is NOT opera.
