One gets a rather different picture praying the psalms, including the Advent psalms. *We* the psalmist, the "I" referenced delight in doing the will of God. Over and over we tell Him that we love to keep His commandments. And when we fall, we call out for help, and He helps us, He holds us by the hand and leads us to pasture and water. We are not afraid of His judgement, even David, after his enormous sin, even in his sorrow, has confidence in God's forgiveness. In the psalms who is judged is not us, God's *faithful* children, but those who oppress the poor, who seek silver and gold, who worship their silver and gold, who speak about others with knives for tongues, who lie in wait for the poor, and in the psalms we are glad of the Lord's coming--we are *allowed* to be glad of it, and that's why we pray, "Come, Lord, come thou judge!" We are not the accused, we are the plaintiffs! And the Lord, with His sword strapped on, is our advocate! That's the psalms point of view. I pray them every morning, in the Divine Office in English. (I wish to distinguish the Divine Office from the novus ordo's Liturgy of the Hours, which purges the thunder and lightning psalms and gospels.) Now, I am reminded not to fall into sin during the day, but the sins are so clearly enumerated and the help so generously offered.

I'm pretty sur the classic TLM mass purged a lot of brimstone verses too.
      Just a thought.

This is off the topic, and forgive me, but do you know your graphic on the page is puzzling, because the place where the lance went into Our Lord's side is on His right, and I always thought it went into the heart, on his left or rather more or less in the middle.
