Hi fiber friends, so sorry for a few seconds of audio off in some spots, I’m learning as I go with my new mic! Don’t worry, if you’re knitting you won’t notice 😁😁
Your Lumme is beautiful. I just finished the Field sweater and love it. Am about halfway through the Cloud sweater by petite knit and it is yellow too, in Camarose snuffing. I love yellow.
Thank you so much, Debra! I love my Lumme, too. What color did you make your field sweater in? I have seen a few of those, and the stitch pattern is so lovely. I'm excited you're making a yellow cloud sweater! Thinking I may need to do a yellow KAL this spring.
Just found your podcast! I love your format and vibe. I think I'll stick around for a while! Personally, I LOVE knitting socks. They're a great on-the-go project. But, I prefer to make them for my husband. He loves to wear them and he says they keep his feet super warm. I tend to prefer a 80% wool/20% nylon blend for him as they seem to end up a bit thicker. The ones that I have made for myself that have a higher wool content are definitely much warmer! But I tend to run very warm, so I like a 75%/25% blend for myself. As far as magic loop, it's the only way I knit socks! The 9" needles are just way too small and fiddly for me. What I've found works the best for me to avoid the ladders is to pull snuggly on the SECOND stitch when you switch needles. You can pull tighter on the first stitch, but if your tension loosens on the second stitch, then you'll get the ladders. I've also learned that ensuring your needles stay close together (and you don't start off with a long piece of yarn between your needles) on the first few rounds of the cuff gets everything off on the correct foot (pun not intended!). I've probably made about 10 pairs of socks now and haven't dealt with ladders since my very first pair after learning those two tips! But, all that being said, if knit socks aren't your thing, then knit socks aren't your thing! This is a hobby that should be fun and bring you joy, so don't force yourself to make something you don't enjoy just because the greater knitting community says you should knit socks. You tried it, you didn't like it, maybe you'll want to try again, maybe not, and that's ok! That's how I feel about amigurumi with crochet - it's just not for me! But I love admiring what everyone else is able to accomplish!
Thank you so much, your compliments mean so much to me. I appreciate your sock tips about the second stitch and not forcing it! I think with all the comments I've received, I will try a DK sock.
I knit socks constantly. I choose some Regia yak merino yarn as my daughter requested extra warm socks. I use 5 dp needles dont give up homemade socks r so lovely
Your Lume is gorgeous! And that blue looks so good on you. If you ever get the urge to knit socks again, Patons Kroy sock yarn (you can get at Michael’s or Joann) are some of my favorite sock yarn. I have found I love the heartier sock yarn way more than I like the superwash sock yarns. Also, Andrea mowrys everyday sock pattern is hands down my favorite. The ribbing all around hugs a foot so much better than a plain stockinette sock pattern does!
Hi. I like your using the twisted yarn. I heard it keeps its shape best. Love your & white sweater. Awesome. Looking forward to seeing the yellow yarn worked up. Just joined today.
Thank you Donna! I love the yarn I choose as well, so excited you joined today since I have another going live in an hour, welcome to my little group of fiber friends!
Working on my sunflower socks! You should try cascade heritage yarn for socks. It has quickly become my fave. And I’ve enjoyed making fun/colorwork socks a lot more than the vanilla pair I knit first. A bit more time, but way more fun and delightful on the back end!
Beautiful sweater and fun projects ahead! Love Wool & Co. and hope to visit someday! Looking forward to your next video..will have to go back and watch episode #1. I am currently working on the Kagan’s Quilt (a knit quilt like blanket) - have had it in my stash for years. Also working on a No Frills in Chelsea Luxe yarns and the Wildwood Socks…plan to make a few Sherpa Style project bags today as well! Always more to do than hours in the day!
I just finished a Sofie shawl but made the small and use it as a winter scarf. It has some alpaca in it and is so soft and cozy…..I just love it and hope you love yours!
I feel the same about superwash merino sock yarn! I was so excited to cast on some new socks last summer with a special skein I found on vacation, but once they were done and blocked they stretched so much and I just hated the way they felt on my feet. I encourage you to try Lang Jawol sock yarn! It’s more rustic but not itchy, and keeps your feet so warm! It comes in self striping too which is always fun to knit up 😊
Also along the lines of magic loop, I alternate where I pull the cable from...it helps to not make that line down the side and makes for a VERY thoughtless knit which is the only way I enjoy knitting socks.
I’m left handed and I knit combination continental right handed. I don’t think I am any slower, and when I first started knitting I tried out a few different methods and that’s what worked the best.
Hi. I enjoyed your podcast... 1st time here... and I'll be back. I love your sweater! and I want to knit the vest you showed. I, like you, usually have at least 2 knitting projects going. One of them easier to knit while I watch and listen. I also quilt and right now at this point I have 2 big queensized quilts in process. Again, I like to have more than one project going so I can work on one quilt while I think about my next steps on the other quilt. Looking forward to your next projects.! Patricia
So glad you'll be back, that means so much to me! Also, so in awe you have two quilt sized quilts going, I haven't made on that big yet but I'm dying to make a king size one for my bed!
Left handed knitter her too! Would love to see what adjustments you are making, I find that I often have to rethink what I’m doing if I work flat versus in the round.
Hi Jacquelyn! Loving your podcast. I wanted to let you know that when it comes to the ladders on your socks when knitting with the magic loop technique, it's not how snugly you pull on the st immediately after you pull out your loop, but rather the second st in from the big loop. You need to pull snug on the second st on the needle after pulling your loop. That's the way you cinch in those ladders. Hope that helps. Don't give up on socks! You don't have to be a prolific sock knitter, but it's a good item to have on the needles for grab and go knitting. And I would LOVE to hear you speak about left handed knitting! ❤ Tayler

I would be very interested in seeing how u knit. Also, what size needles are u using for ur socks? Try a 0, or try holding fingering double on size 3s. Ur socks should be warm and keep ur feet warm. It's very weird. 🤔 How long have u been knitting? Ur stuff is so beautiful to be a " newer" knitting. It's amazing. U go girl 😂
I used a US 1 for my socks, but I think I will go up in yarn weight for my next one to see if I like it better! I've only been knitting since August 2023 :)
I love the sewn bind-off. There are reasons for adding the short rows after the color work and before the ribbing on the bottom. Your knits are beautiful!
I love your Lumme sweater! The color looks great on you. I am a little confused by what you are saying about knitting left handed. I am right handed, but I knit holding my yarn in my left hand (continental). I can still follow the patterns as written. Are you knitting in the opposite direction somehow?
I saw your Lumme sweater on ravelry and was so in love with the bright color choice! Inspired me to pick a bright pink for mine (ordered from Wool & Co. funny enough!). So happy to see you have a RUclips!! I’m working on Blouse No. 1 from My Favourite Things Knitwear atm :)

Hi! Just found your podcast, it’s great! I felt the same way about socks when I first started knitting too. I swore off socks AND fingering weight yarn. But after a couple of years the small needles didn’t bother me as much, and my favorite weight socks are DK. Crazy Sock Lady has a DK vanilla sock pattern that I love. Also the yarn matters. I find my socks to be super warm. Try a yarn like targee or correidale if you find marino isn’t warm enough. And/or add mohair.

You did such a great job on your sweater, it is sooo beautiful!! After making socks and loving doing them I do have to say I reach more for my more rustic thicker wool ones for thier warmth. Especially old kroy sock yarn and schoppel and regia sock yarns are so cozy even though they are a little rougher on the hands to knit.
Just found your channel. Have you ever tried knitting continental style since you are a lefty. It might make it easier on you, and you wouldn't have to reverse a whole pattern. I'd say if you are a new knitter, your colorwork is amazing. ❤ from NYS.
I'm left handed and I honestly don't think there's in difference in knitting continental picking vs knitting left handed. I originally learned English style like 7 years ago and I felt like I could never get it so I gave up shortly after. I decided to learn continental when I picked it back up years ago and it clicked much better. I also learned to "knit backwards" for knitting stockinette flat without having to purl. Its the same as "continental" knitting left handed, and I feel no advantage. I think its helpful to know how to do both, but doing continental right handed knitting means the ease of left handed knitting movement wise and the ease of right handed knitting directions and patterns. If I were to advise any left handed people wanting to learn how to knit, it would be to learn continental knitting before trying left handed knitting.
Im a left-handed english knitter and my pet peeve is that knitting is so right hand dominant. It would be so much easier to follow instructions if instead of right and left needle the terminology working and resting needle were used instead.

Yes, but when I knit continental, I use my right hand haha! Thank you so much for the compliment on my colorwork!
@@jacqueismaking but that defeats the whole practice. Lol. 😆
I knit left to right and do continental with my right hand
Great job! I believe it’s pronounced “Loo-may”. ;)
HAHA of course I somehow said two versions other than this!
Maybe try a dk weight sock? Thicker?
That's what I'm thinking, too!

Your sweeter is absolutely beautiful. Perfection. ❤❤❤❤❤❤11:20 A.M.
Thank you my Nana! I thought you may love it.
Im a left-handed english knitter and my pet peeve is that knitting is so right hand dominant. It would be so much easier to follow instructions if instead of right and left needle the terminology working and resting needle were used instead.
AGREED! My same pet peeve.
Try dk weight instead.
I think I will!
