Badlands is one of the most undertalked about bands from the 80’s. Great blues sound mixed with roaring riffs from Jake. Rays voice is phenomenal. Got the privilege to see them in Dayton oh at Hara Arena in 89. Loved em every since..
Brings tears to my eyes..we miss you Ray..I play Badlands so often..Voodoo Highway is in my top 5 albums of all time..I was lucky to see ya'all LIVE in Bristol..Still have the t-shirt and Jeff's drumstick!! Miss you....see you again one day..love always.xxxxx🇬🇧🇬🇧🎸❤️
Best voice most of the world never heard , I’m lucky to have heard , was devastated when he died , Badlands should of been the new zeppelin, rip dude , thank you for the amazing music you left us .
Ray was a phenomenal singer and is missed by his fans - believe that. Thank you for posting this badass tribute for Ray. Much Love from New York and condolences to both you & Karen Joseph for your loss. Rest In Peace Ray - you're not forgotten.
He was a great singer. With his own sound and style. It Could go blues. And it could go metal. But whatever it was. it was great. Rock lost a great voice with his passing.
Dude about best singer..!!!!.. Your not WRONG.. HE WAS A RARE FINEST FRONT MAN , LEAD SINGER. AS MUCH AS JAKE WAS A LEADER, NOT A FOLLOWER, BUT RAY, TRUE HEAVY WIEGHT ,TOP NOTCH GENERAL, SINGER OR EVEN WORKING THAT STAGE FLOOR LIKE HIS BALLROOM LOL IN A TEE PEE IN LOUISIANA,SWAP WOODS GLADIATER FRONT FXXXING MAN...!!! SECOND TO NONE IS BEST SAID AN THAT SHOULD BE A MADE UP TRIBUTE SONG COMING UP. PLEASE. ( SECOND TO NONE,,!!) B.M.D. RUNNIN WILD MEAN GEEN..
I met ray at the scrap bar in nyc and saw them live at a midtown club in Manhattan. Ray was an amazing singer and probably the most underrated singer in rock n roll history. His music and passing still touch me deeply to this day.
I saw Badlands in Bristol U.K in 1992 we watched them sound check it was pretty empty and it was such a treat, i remember there was a young child walking around on the stage, we chatted to Jake and the band after the show. Can't believe Ray died a year later, he sounded and looked brilliant, my friend was touching his shoe at the front of the stage in awe lol. They were an incredible band.
Michael, This is Karen Rays best friend, partner in life and fiancé to the end. You have so many of the pictures and video. I have pics of you at one of our pads. Among others. The end was the hardest part in my life. Flying back and forth to New York. I wish one Day I could tell you the true end to Rays life. He would have now that he is in peace wanted you to know. He loved you like no other. You are such a special soul. I was living with a secret for many years. If you only knew what the band truly did to him in Europe, why we left quite tour. Those guys have to live for the rest of there life knowing they killed Ray way before he had to go. When he passed he cried for weeks and angels held him why he cried until he found his peace and has been living watching over me and a few others. The psychic said that he has many friends but inside day night laughing and joking around he was is never without a pad of paper writing! I had every photo of him, us stollen from storage facilities. Although I have Making of Badlands ( Dag the Giblets) of the two of us being silly. Today is Birthday not of his death but of the day he will always be in our hearts forever. Ray died with a smile on his face, doesn’t that just say everything. Kind heart and gentle soul. Today, Tomorrow and Forever ❣️
Man i really miss Ray and his singing in Badlands. He is the Best Ever no one touches him. I would love to know the true facts surrounding all the Atlantic Records bull and Ray. R.I.P. RAY AND ROCK ON🎸🎸🙏💜💙🎼🎵😎👍👍🔥

Dam excelkent show and if you rhink i am bull shiiting pull up so live badlands.
For any fellow Badlands lovers who haven't heard it yet listen to the excellent interviews done by Brian Sword on the double stop podcast with both Greg Chaisson and Jeff Martin they cover the making of Dusk and more info about the band.
Just happened across this. Ray is my favourite rock singer of all time. Such a great voice. I practiced to his vocals on the daily. I miss him. In A Dream lets him shine. So great.

This is a nice tribute, *Michael*. Some great photos of *Ray* with fans. I wonder why his tombstone has that Nelson A. Bellber on it though. Surely they didn't bury two people in one spot... that's just confusing. Anyway... very cool video to *Ray*, one of the greatest vocalists ever. I put him up there with *Plant*, *Coverdale* and *Dio*.
Nelson A. Bellber was Raymond's uncle. Possibly one of those responsible for Ray's death. It is rumored that Gillen used heroin and shared a contaminated syringe. Nelson was a carrier of the AIDS virus. Jake E. Lee talked about this in an interview.
Show me the way💕wonderful song, for a wonderful 👦 Boy, Ray great with Sabbath and very, very great with Badlands💋I’m like Man, voices 👍💋Him « Get Away » so young😰today 62 years💕will always singing?🎵sorry😪i be waiting Ray with Ashley🤷♀️our participation with Phenomena and RONDINELLI ( last performer) we’re extraordinary, better than with Sabbath and Badlands, but RAY… get away 01/12/1993😭😭❤️
Cliffside, New jersey i think. thats where he's from. Seen Badlands with Winger and Bulletboys opening for Cinderella 1989 at the Shoreline in Mt. View

Ray is such an inspiration. One of the greatest rock vocalists the world ever had. At 1:00,the guy in the middle appears to be Warren DeMartini but whos the guy on the right who appears in many photos with Ray? Possibly you Oilcan00?None the less, thanks for posting the Ray Gillen/Badlands vids.~Take care~!
Al Rockman I WAS BORN IN SHERIDAN , WYOMING AND I STILL RESIDE HERE IM NOT IRISH THOUGH . I WAS GIVEN THAT LAST NAME AFTER MY REAL FATHER DIED 😳 IM GERMAN AND ITALIAN . I SPEAK MOSTLY ENGLISH MY DEAR
Could you email me a copy of the picture of Ray's headstone? I love the tribute, great pictures, great song, by a great rock voice. I don't think I could have preformed on the same stage as Ray. Too much talent.
Who was Nelson A. Bellber? And where can Ray's grave be found? I'm from Norway, and I'm considering taking a trip to the US to see Ray's final resting place.
ray gillen and tommy bolin ,randy castillo and maybe mike star , and this would be a really good band . god bless your souls, and maybe they could of been great
My favorite singer of all time... I've recently found another soul piercing singer who I think is respectively comparable to Ray. Not in style but in sincerity and that singer is Jay Buchanan from the band RIVAL SONS
Interesting that you say that. I always thought that ray’s voice was like David Coverdale’s voice, but very American sounding. In his mid range, I guess I do see the resemblance to Jay’s voice at times
When you look up "rock and roll lead singer" in the dictionary you should find a picture of a few people Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, David Lee Roth and Ray Gillen.
A unique and personal tribute! Thanks! Ray was an extraordinary talent. Question to you (Michael Le Blanc, or others): I noticed that Nelson Bellber, Ray's uncle, I believe, also died at a tragically young age (39). Was this perhaps the uncle of Ray's that he'd said had had the heroin addiction? Did he die of AIDS, as well, or something else? (So sorry for your and the Gillens' losses, by the way.)
Yes, someone I know who was very close to Ray told me that him and his uncle shared needles, thus where the HIV/AIDS came from. Tragic...Rest In Peace Ray
Thanks for the info. Others have suggested this, as well, and the lyrics to the amazing Badlands' song, "The River," seem to bare that out. They are autobiographical of the lyricist, Ray Gillen, according to Greg Chaisson. But regardless of whether it was needle use or unsafe sex, we wish Ray would have been a lot more careful, because he would likely still be around belting out great tunes, like no one else could!
@ Yes, that's the one. According to Jake, Ray said he just wanted to try heroin once, tragically enough! I also had heard that the late Mike Starr of AIC, also an off-and-on user who had been in Ray's band, Sun Red Sun, said that Ray had mentioned this same story, so I'm glad to see I've been vindicated in my original research.
Today, for me, is Ray Gillen Day. THE BEST rock n roll singer I ever had the privilege of hearing! I really wish that he was still with us.

His voice is perfectly haunting.
Ray Gillen the best rock singer ever!!!
The guy had more range than anybody, even women singers.
Rag was good, but Rob, Bruce, DIO are the top metal singers ever. No is in that same category.
Ray was a phenomenal singer and is missed by his fans - believe that. Thank you for posting this badass tribute for Ray. Much Love from New York and condolences to both you & Karen Joseph for your loss. Rest In Peace Ray - you're not forgotten.
Ray Gillen, the bluesiest, most soulful rock singer ever
Beautiful, haunting voice that I miss.
Ray's vocal talent was One-of-a-kind, Bless
I wish I could sing like that..Never tire of hearing his Incredible voice
Same dude.....such a tragedy he ain't here anymore. Doubt I'll hear a voice anywhere as good in my lifetime.😣
Never will there be another singer like Ray RIP brother

It is said that Nelson A Bellber was Rays uncle on his mothers side, though very close in age to Ray.
Leyend of heavy metal ray guillen pure emotion pure power
Top 6 metal singers of all time Tate Keith gillen halford dio coverdale very underrated singer wish we could have had more from him
Sleazy Skeezy&Greazy it’s a great list can’t argue with that.
Sleazy Skeezy&Greazy yes very underrated band. I remember hearing cold shower from them thinking what a unique band. To bad they were 1 album hit.
ray gillen and tommy bolin ,randy castillo and maybe mike star , and this would be a really good band . god bless your souls, and maybe they could of been great

+liselle sloan You asked the question and I answered it for you. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for about Ray's illness.
azff
I said thank you! I don't know why you're getting indignant--I'm certainly not looking for one answer or another--good grief.
@ Yes, that's the one. According to Jake, Ray said he just wanted to try heroin once, tragically enough! The tombstone is a bit confusing and the dates don't match. Can someone explain it?
I think Ray was 31 when he died. Dec. 1st
34, sorry. Too early for math, 😀👍
RIP
Does anyone know where his headstone is or the site of the where he is at in park?
Almost sounds like Sun, Red Sun in certain parts.
Why is two people on the stone ?
Two Justin Beiber fans gave this vid two thumbs down
Who cares Fuck them
