Once again, my list would be different, but I was nodding during the entire video at the praise for each book. In regard to The Blade Itself, there’s a huge amount of nostalgia for me when I think of getting to know those characters. Who needs plot? Cheers, gents!
Amen! There is so much to gain from each book and I love how pretty much everyone has such a varied taste. It's why we love reading! As for the plot, when you have Jezal's chin, plot is purely secondary isn't it.
Ed
Before they are hanged is my favorite book in the first law trilogy
I absolutely must get around to reading Abercrombie later this year. 😊
You must! :)
Will
Have never read Joe Abercrombie but received the First Law Trilogy box set in the mail yesterday and I am keen to start in this world. Thanks guys!
Nice surname!
Underrated comment^
Just finished The Blade Itself and I can't wait to continue with the First Law world!
You have officially started the journey! Enjoy.
Ed
So hard to choose between the standalones, they all have great parts to recommend them.
We definitely agree!
Ed
I hear the intro to your clip and my day is already better😂 Thank you guys for another great video👊
And your comment has made our day! Thanks for watching.
Ed
So many bangers there when u put it into perspective. Can't wait to see what Abercrombie cooks up next
I know! Really shows the quality of The First Law when you talk about them all. The Devils is his next project and it sounds like it is going to be awesome!
Will
I'll have to do some digging on The Devils good to hear there is more in the works
APOLOGIZE TO MY F#@*! DICE is a legendary line!
Friendly is so underrated.
Ed
Another great ranking!! I love how quickly we tread into 5-star territory on this ranking list, haha. It is really hard to pick favourites when the quality of every single book is just so high, isn't it?
I can't wait to return to the First Law world soon!
Thank you :). Hahah, I know! When it comes to Abercrombie it is bound to happen. Yes it is! I love different books for different reasons, so it was really hard to rank them.
Will
The wrestling scene never gets old 😂😂😂😂🙌
Leo's mates are so good at wrestling 😂
Ed
Ouch, that The Heroes rating. It really kills me that you didn't say which perspective you didn't click with either! That first battle scene in Before they are hanged is possibly my favourite one from the books. Those moments of trepidation and then panic are just so spot on and thrilling.
So sorry! I did not click with Tunny or Beck.
Yes, that battle is amazing! You feel the utter chaos.
Will
I have only read the trilogy, you have sparked me to buy the others.
Yes you definitely should read the other books Abercrombie gets better with each book 🙂
Brilliant
The cruellest but most interesting thing I can think to get you to do is to rank all of the books by John Gwynne... xD
That is cruel! Cannot even think of doing that!!!!
Will
@@thebrothersgwynne it would be ten minutes of you staring at the shelf shaking you head and then turning the camera off! 😂
I haven't read Age of Madness yet, so can't rank them all. Heroes was actually my favourite of the standalones. Bremer Dan Gorst a major reason, but also that chapter during a battle where the POV keeps changing. Unless I'm mistaken and it's in a different Abercrombie book. Sharp Ends would be my least favourite too, I need more than short stories from Abercrombie! The original trilogy books I can't really compare and rank, all were excellent, and it just felt like one long story.
The head-hopping in The Heroes is just sublime isn't it. I love Abercrombie's short stories but a huge reason why I love his books is the development and arcs of his characters. Thanks for watching!
Ed
Agree with the ranking for wisdom of crowds. I enjoyed it but like you was expecting a prominent baldy to come in and sort things out, felt a bit like he just sat it out which felt a little out of character. And for a book with so many long drops, the short one at the end was a little gutting.
So much expectation is certainly a reason why it fell short. Completely agree.
Ed
My biggest criticism of Wisdom of Crowds (Age of Madness as a whole really) is I do not care for Gunnar Broad. Aside from that I mostly prefer AoM to the original trilogy; which I do not say lightly.
I felt that way with pretty much all of the characters unfortunately. And there were some devastating endings for some of my favourite ones...
Ed
@@thebrothersgwynne yeah that one particular character's fate got me to ... and now I wanna do a re-read of the entire series lol
Not surprised that the hero's is in the bottom three Im definitely not a fan of that book
