Thanks. I've had mine a couple of months and have to say I'm really happy with it on my X-T2. It saves having to carry around some of my other lenses if I just want to do some general shots. highly recommend it.
Xt4 is sooo dreamy literally everything you could want, however my em1 mark ii is pair with the AMAZING 12-100mm ( 35mm ff eq 24-200mm) contemplating a switch if it wasn't for Olys better ibis and 12-100mm i would go to fujis xt4 in a heartbeat! ( shot a wedding video with the em1 mark ii, once I hit 6400 iso the noise was very apparent, but work able cause "millennial dark aesthetic" but I would have preferred the xt4s better low light and video codecs, being stuck at 8 bit and 237mbps (variable mostly around 90mbps) was a lot less forgiving to push and apply luts
Still no one doing better reviews Dustin. Could be an XT-4 in my future complimenting my D850 so finding them very valuable in preparation for new system procurement. Thank you for all the hard work and in depth presentations, can’t imagine how you find the time to do so. Ciao.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this lens. Looks like a nice all around lens. Hope this will be an option to include with new body purchases at a discounted price in the future.
Great review. How much of a factor is the OIS? I'm trying to decide between this lens and the 16-55mm f2.8. The price different here is only $150 which for me is not a deciding factor. Ultimately would the 16-55mm be of higher quality? Do we place too much emphasis on OIS? I'm old enough to remember when such a thing did not exist and shooting on 64 & 100 ISO gave me sharp pictures without the use of a tripod.
That really depends on whether or not you want to shoot much handheld video. That's the limiting principle. I do think that future bodies will have OIS (it looks like it is coming to the X-T4), so I'd go with the better lens.
Hii, yet again a great video! Impressed how you compress all the necessary information in such a short time... Kudos to your skill! Is there any chance of getting a detailed review of GFX 50r? Thanks for this vlog too... 😊
Just a question :) I can't see LM sign on the product front lens, wasn't a traditional stepper motor mounted on this lens? I read "stepper motor" on the 16.80 official specs where there is "linear" motor on other models. Seems to be little worse than 18-55 or 16-55 both with linear motors, my usage impression.
That's possible, though it behaves more like the linear motors in terms of speed and sound. It's definitely better than the 18-55, and I don't think the 16-55 was any better.
Dan, thanks for another great review. I’m a big fan of your content and would love to see you focus on Nikon Z as well. How would you compare this lens to the canon rf and Sony e 24-105s?
Hi Pedro, I'm afraid Nikon Z is not in my plans. I would say that this lens is not quite as good (particularly on the long end) as either of the full frame options, though it has a big advantage in size (particularly over the Sony). It also has the best stabilizer of the bunch.
Hi Dustin, thanks for all of the reviews. I'm about purchase the XT4 with a kit lens. There's about a 120 dollar difference between the the 18-55mm and the 16-80mm. Is the 16-80mm the obvious choice?
Hello Dustin ,question for you . Which lens would you get if you had only one choice between the XF10-24 mm or the XF 16-80mm Fujifilm lenses and why ?????
I’d go with the 16-80mm for the primary reason that such a lens covers the majority of my focal range needs, whereas I consider 10-24mm to be more specialized.
I am debating keeping my 18-55 or am within exchange period at Best Buy and getting the body and 18-60mm for an extra 200$ since the lense and body are on sale. I do insects and othet wildlife, sunset, and landscape. Should I do the switch?
Thank you for a great review. I'm oscillating between the x-t4 +16-80mm and the Sony a7c +28-60. I shoot mostly stills landscape and portraits and pet photography. I want something lightweight and compact without compromising on image quality and autofocus capability. Would you like to recomnend?
The Sony combo is sharper, though you are getting a very diminished zoom range. You might want to supplement the 28-60 for portraits. The X-T4 is more feature rich and has better ergonomics, though the Fuji lens selection overall cannot compare to what's available for Sony FE (no other platform can, at the moment).
Just wanna mention that this is going to be a kit lens option for the single digit x-t series (x-t3 and presumably x-t4). It's still $100 more than the 18-55 kit, but still, you're not paying the full $800 price. I'd say it's a great option if you're looking to get the x-t3.
Personally, I think that this lens, despite it's flaws, is a better choice then the 16-55, unless you strictly need that shallower depth of field (slight). With its stabilization this lens makes up for several time the stop of difference in light and turns the X-T3 (until the X-T4 comes out) in a all around camera. After all the 16-55 is not a perfect lens by any means ass well. What I'd be a little concerned is how the focus wobble does after the last patches. For video this lens was no good at release, but I found nothing in this video about it or against.
@@DustinAbbottTWI I'm thinking to buy the lens: I keep hearing people complaining about this wobble but many YT video are outdated: did you noticed any change in the firmware update 1.02?
Great video, thanx! This lens really kills me!! There are so many different reviews and opinions on RUclips... From very good to bad lens..... Puuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh
A lens like this can be polarizing. Some people have unrealistic expectations for what is possible with such a focal range. This is one is pretty good, though not exceptional.
@@DustinAbbottTWI I would really appreciate if you could answer this question I already have the 16 to 80 mm and I am a landscape photographer should I buy the 16 to 55 for the extra image quality difference Thank you so much
Yes, I've never quite gotten that. I think this lens is better than the 18-55, which for some reason was severely overrated. I've found that Fuji defenders are more aggressive than any other fans, though, so that might be where the "Fuji doesn't make..." line came from.
Dustin Abbott 18-55mm is overrated was I’d mentioned before and whole army of fuji warriors butchered me. It is an “ok” lens but not the attractive one. Hopefully this 16-80mm is better than that purely for that focal length and WR.
This video states that Fuji uses their Linear Motors (LM), but it appears that they have used a stepping motor instead.

Definitely the 18-55. It's the better lens, and the XT-4 has IBIS.

@@savnac Dustin probably meant the 16-55.

Frankly I almost never zoom while videoing. I prefer to have two different shots. It rarely makes for compelling footage.
I was also unaware that this was an "issue" and so didn't specifically look for it.

Afraid not, John. That lens went back to Fuji a week or so ago.

@@DustinAbbottTWI Possibly you had a copy on the poor side. The 18-55 may not be the sharpest lens, but it renders beautiful images.
