    You missed to mention one point though. States in India are largely based on language like Tamil Nadu for Tamil, Bengal for Bengali, Punjab for Punjabi, Gujarat for Gujarati, Odisha for Odiya etc.

    • @martianmanhunter5

      @Fat EartherNearly all the states have a single dominant language. But sometimes minority languages are recognised as additional official language. For example, Telangana main language is Telugu(84%), but Urdu(12%) is also recognised.

      @SA SH I'm guessing you're talking about Hindi.
      1. Nope. Think of India as Europe. Not everyone can speak or understand English. Same for Hindi in India.
      2. Yes, In South India and East India, majority people can't understand. Even in Northern and western India you'll meet people (from rural areas) who don't understand Hindi.
      3. No, Villages don't need Hindi to be translated for them. Information reach them in their local languages.

    • @she_wizzdom4410
      @she_wizzdom4410 5 лет назад +18

      @SA SH Hindi is usually accepted if you do not come from the same region and hence don't know the same regional language. However some people think it is unfair because Hindi is considered as a language of North India and refuse to use it over their regional language. It's complicated. Usually indians are by default multilingual , they speak English, Hindi, the language of the region from where they have originated and the language of the region where they are currently living.

    Surprisingly, India Uses Quasi(Semi)-Federalism. Countries Like USA,CANADA,GERMANY,UK,SPAIN,ITALY Etc are more decentralized than India.

    • @greeenwaters9125
      @greeenwaters9125 3 года назад +4

      There's no such thing as "quasi-federalism" in polity. It's a made-up term used by some to describe federal countries which are more centralized with US as a reference point. A country is either Federal or unitary & the level of decentralisation isn't an indicator of federalism. It's whether the autonomy of sub-units, no matter how little it is, is constitutionally guaranteed or not. And in india,it certainly is.
      Also, unlike most federations, indian federation is protected by an eternity clause. So while,one day, US could certainly become an unitary state if one party becomes dominant in all levels of government, in india, it isn't possible. ever.
      So, by that regard, india is even stronger of a federation than US.
      Coming to level of decentralisation, india is also highly decentralised. Although, not as much as US, the units, nonetheless, enjoy sole or joint control over a substantial range of issues.
      India is ,however,more decentralised than Italy and Spain and on par with Canada.

      @Juniper Bruh just stop, you can still feel pride in being a tamilan without demeaning others...The North, the South, the East and the West, all parts of India are a part of India and we all deserve the right to be called Indians...Sure there are Tamizhans, Bengalis, Biharese, Marathi, Malayali ,Gujarathi, North Eastern people ( sorry I can't mention everything lol) etc but we all share the same fact that we are Indians. So stop with your 'misplaced pride' bullshit. Even if what you said was true , that doesn't give you any right to demean others and put yourself as 'above' them somehow. What matters is that we are now part of this diversely beautiful country called India and we all have the right to be proud about it. Sorry if I came out to be rude in any way, I just can't stand it when people try to put others as inferior to themselves...I wish you and anyone reading this a good day. That's all I guess...

      To most of the West, India is a massive country very far away, with religions they don't recognize and languages they don't understand. Of course certain specific locations/identities will become more culturally recognizable. It's not that westerners are _unaware_ of India's diversity, it's just that most aren't deeply educated on specifics.

Further, the Mughal Empire penetrated to the deep south, and had the largest land mass after the British and the Mauryan Empires.

    Factual error
    Urdu is a language from UP(north india) with hindi language in Arabic script,
    Pakistan's domestic languages are punjabi sindhi and afgani, they speak Urdu because the Muslim elite before partition used to live in Hindu majority areas of India and were speaking URDU,
    after the formation or Pakistan, they went there as civil servants and imposed urdu.
    Hindu hindi speakers in North India are better in urdu in terms of accent, understanding and communication (without even learning it) than an average Pakistani. Because urdu borrows 80% from hindi as it was mafe by Hindu converts.

      Free Kashmir, the genocide watch has issued a genocide alert, warning India not to commit genocide upon Kashmiris.
      Genocide Watch’s Ten Stages of the genocidal process are also far advanced:
      1. Classification: Hindu and Sikh Indian Army “us” vs. Kashmiri Muslim civilian “them;”
      2. Symbolization: Muslims have Muslim names (on ID cards), Kashmiri language, dress, mosques;
      3. Discrimination: Hindu pandits were economically dominant until 1990; BJP reasserted Hindu power;
      4. Dehumanization: Muslims are called “terrorists”, “separatists,” “criminals,” “insurgents;”
      5. Organization: 600,000 heavily armed Indian Army troops and police dominate Kashmir;
      6. Polarization: Modi and the BJP incite anti-Muslim hatred; social media spread falsehoods;
      7. Preparation: The Indian Army occupies Kashmir; BJP leaders speak of the “Final Solution” for Kashmir;
      8. Persecution: Kashmiri Muslims are locked down, subject to arrest, torture, rape, and murder;
      9: Extermination: Genocidal massacres occurred during Partition; since 1990, there have been at least 25 massacres with death tolls over 25: 10 of Muslims by Indian troops; 15 of Hindus by Muslim militants;
      10. Denial: Modi and BJP say their goals are to “bring prosperity” and “end terrorism”; they deny any massacres. No Indian Army troops or police are ever tried for torture, rape or murder. Modi’s takeover is popular in India.
      Genocide Watch calls upon the United Nations and its members to warn India not to commit genocide in Kashmir.

They are each a language of a specific state, like Telugu is spoken only in Andhra Pradesh (and Telangana since Andhra split in 2016), Tamil only in Tamil Nadu and similarly, Marathi in Maharashtra and for all other regions.

    7:34 is the typical narrative spread by the British that they united India, and without them there would be no India. The Maratha Empire you mentioned covered a large part of modern India and without the British, might have united the country under one government. So while the British did make one political entity, it's not unique or magnanimous of them to do so.

    hey great video, but I just wanna comment something real quick. I'm half
    Pakistani and half Bangladeshi, and I know a fair bit about south asia
    as a whole so I came to make a few corrections. the first is at 3:59
    where you said
    "north India mostly speaks indo-aryan languages like Hindi which is notably similar to the Urdu spoken in Pakistan"
    the key word I want to dissect is "similar".by saying that, people might get the impression that it's a similar situation with Spanish and Portuguese, when in reality its not even close. Urdu and Hindi are actually the same language but because of political tension, are referred to by different names. secondly, multiple times throughout the video, you mention that Hindi is the most spoken language, and while that's true, its more of a dialect continuum than a language proper. people in rajastan cant understand people in bihar. the Hindi people speak as a lingua franca is based off the Hindi spoken in New Delhi, and that is what Urdu is a dialect of.
    I apologize if this seemed too nit picky, but I just wanted to correct some things. hope this helps

      I would not agree that people in Rajasthan wouldn't understand the people in Bihar. Hindi is my second language and I understand people from these states perfectly. Could be the villages you are talking about, but I still think it won't make the languages illegible.

    Odia is also a major language spoken in East India, in the state of Odisha (earlier Orissa). Odia is closely related to Bengali and is descended from a common Eastern Prakrit language, albeit with somewhat of a mixed history. It is not clear which one emerged first, but Odia culture is quite old, laying claim to the Odissi dance, one of the classical dances of India. It is a continuation of the kingdom of Kalinga (from the Mauryan times). Odia and Bengali are to some extent mutually intelligible. Bihar has its own set of languages, which can be called dialects of Hindi (like Bhojpuri) although Maithili is more close to Bengali.

    Also annoying is when people talk about "Indian Food" and think it's spicy and is made of "curry". I still have no idea what "curry" is supposed to be, and not every region has spicy food, although certain regions do add a lot of spice to their food. Some parts of Karnataka (Udipi) in fact have very sweet food.
