I'm a bit late sharing this video, as this tutorial has been shared tens of thousands of times. You might have seen it, but did you know how easy it is to make a sock gnome with a coffee cup?
Below, I'll link the full tutorial on the website and a few key supplies. Feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any about gnome making, how to cut faux fur, or even coming up with your own fun gnome designs.

I prefer the sped up video. Thanks! This is GREAT!
Omg SUPER SUPER CUTE!!! DEFINITELY going to make this for coffee lovers!!
Thank you so much, Angie. :)
Love all your gnomes and short videos!!!!!
I purchased a bunch of socks like that a year ago because they were really cheap at Walmart. The project I wanted to use them for didn’t turn out like I wanted so now I know what to use all of them for. Thanks for sharing your idea, I love it and will be making a lot of gnomes.
This is one of my all-time favorite gnomes. I hope you have fun making them, Susan. :)
Have to say it again. Love this guy with my coffee ☕! Have to tell you though Sarah I don't know what you prefer but I would rather have real time instead of speeded up because I really get more out of it. Although I just have to watch you a few more times! It's ok I enjoy you!!!!😁😀☕
Adorable
great tutorial. Your descriptions and demonstrations are very helpful. And THIS coffee gnome is so cute. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Deb, I appreciate you letting me know. ❤️

Super cute and super easy!!
Cannot wait to make him 🥰
I love this so so so much and it perfect colors and with coffee mug oh my goodness love it so much cuz i want to do it with coffee mug cuz im coffee freak person.....lol too cute
Super cute!!!
Oh if I could find the socks and the right clay YAAAAA I’d make him!! As for your question if I liked sped up or real-time, I feel like the stuff we’d already know how to do i.e. hot glue, cut fabrics, fill hats etc... those I like to be sped up for obvious reasons, and like the intricate stuff like making the coffee cups, showing people how to cut the U shape out of the beard, trimming, measuring for boots, hats, arm length etc.. that’s the stuff I like to see in real-time or even slow motion 🥴🥴 your talent just leaves one with an open mouth, seriously 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That is such great feedback, Jennifer, thank you. Yeah, this is so hard managing everyone's skill levels. I do hope to do more live-action crafting soon now that the new craft room is done. I'll put those all on the list.
Sarah Nenni-Daher oh that’s great!! Again I could watch you make gnomes allllllll day 🥴 and I love how passionate you are while making them as well like you touch the little nose every time, how excited you get with the new coffee mugs ☺️ it’s refreshing
WOW he is fab great video
On my way to the craft store!
Hahaha I need to go soooo badly. Hope you have fun.
I LOVED your gnome! I'm just getting into them. Mine have been SUPER simple but I'm looking forward to getting all fancy-schmancy like yours super cute! Thank you for sharing! :-) and yes... I HATE long videos JUST to be long! So thank you for speeding it up and giving us only what we really need to hear! :-)
Gayle, Thank you so much for the feedback. And simple gnomes are the cutest - I still have so many I made in just a few minutes tucked into places throughout the house and in my craft room. I love the simple ones.
He is adorable. Your videos are short and to the point. Just the way I like them. lol
Haha, so glad to hear it, Barbara. I dislike the ones which trudge on for an hour. Trying to find that balance between instruction and over-doing it isn't easy, so I really appreciate the feedback.
You're so creative!!!.
Love it
Sarah you are just too much! My list looks like a book. My hands are resting camping for now but dang my brain is flying...lol
Love love love it.
My favorite ❤️
Cute 😍
Thank you for speeding the videos up! I LOVE a short quick video!! GNOMES are ADORABLE!!!!

Fellow gnome lover here! I found Sherpa lined socks at Dollar General for $3.00 yesterday. Can’t wait to put my little guy together!
WOW, that's a great find! I will keep an eye out for those because this little style is very, very popular. Thank you for the head's up, Amanda.
Loved 🥰 it. So cute.
I love him...he's adorable!
Adore him. I just bought the sherpa socks today to try this.
Ooh, where did you find your sherpa lined socks? I am getting a ton of emails from peopel saying they can't find them. :(
@@SarahNenniDaher Big Lots...They had a ton. I hope everyone has a Big Lots store!!!! Happy hunting!!!!!

Awesome tutorial. Direct, to the point. Pleasant to not only watch, but listen!! Love it! Ty
So adorable! But then all your gnomes are! Would love to see your house with all your little friends you've made! TYFS! 😄
Only people who love gnomes should come to my house! :) My husband says, "Wow, I just noticed that new gnome!" quite a few times a month.
Love it...can't wait to make it. Just need the clay...You guys are so creative and so talented...Luv ya...
Thanks so much, Janice!
Love love your tutorial!!! He is so cute!!! My favorite gnome so far! TY! Love the shortness also.
Very nice and you make it look so easy.
It really is easy, Elaine. I just love making them each have personalities, but the sock gnomes (and really, any which don't have me pulling out a sewing machine) are my favorites because I can make them so quickly and get to the decoration part. ;)
Thank you so much for watching.
Love him. ❤💟💕
He is adorable. thanks for sharing. Hope you and your healthy and safe
Found those sock on Amazon for 16.99...expensive...thats Canadian...everything high just now...but it would make two adorable gnomes...but I look keep looking...maybe Walmart...thanks again...can't wait for the boot videos...I have snowshoes ..and skies from last year...
You found snowshoes!?! Oh, I looked for those last holiday season and found none. :(
And yeah, I think the price on Amazon varies SO MUCH depending on the time of year. I find a lot cute ones at Target, so I bet Walmart would have them.
I love ❤️ this guy Sarah! I think I need to make one of these to watch me with his coffee when I work on the gnomes with my coffee while my Great Dane decides to not watch me that day....lol...my usual helper.. 😂..take care Sarah..❤️🙋🌷
What an awesome gnome 🥰 i will add this 1 to make next 👩⚕️
thanks for this gnome video, I realized it and it makes it very well 👍
Just love this Gnome, you amaze every time you make new Gnome. Love them all.
Oh, thank you, Barbara. :) And thank you so much for watching them all.
Love it! Gonna make one!!
This one is SUPER fun! I hope you enjoy it.
Im trying it. Love them
Have fun with him, Deb. There are some really great fuzzy socks showing up in the stores right now.
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this gnome!!! So ADORABLE!!! Thank you for sharing!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Ellen. I hope you have fun making him! :) Thank you so much for watching.
Gonna make one
Oh, this guy is definitely one of my favorites. Have fun!
Awesome! You're fun to listen to :)
Since I'm home, I will be making some of these adorable little guys
Right? I've definitely increased my crafting in ALL areas, not just gnomes, since this all started. Thanks for watching and I hope you'll share your gnomes with me after you get them done.
Love him! I love the quick video!!
Oh great to know, Lynn. I really appreciate that feedback.
Soooo cute!!! You make very cute gnomes and good quality.
Thank you! 😊 I just love making gnomes and the fact that I get to share them with you all here is just amazing.
I will DEFINITELY make him!!!! He’s so cute!!! Love your videos ❣️❣️❣️
Aw, thank you so much, Chrys! This little gnome is definitely one of my favorites.
Love him to bits. Will make him soon. Thanks for all our neat, cute little friends.
Aww, thank you, Carol. And thank you so much for watching - I love sharing these guys with you.
Hi Sarah, Love all your gnomes and tips you give. They are so easy to follow. Do you share your no sew gnome pattern? If so, how do I get it and what fee do you charge. Thanks
I forgot to mention it was the pattern for your "money maker " body pattern. Thanks again!🥰
Love him, going to get gear tomorrow
I hope you so much fun making him. The coffee cups and clay accents are a lot of fun to take your time with, as well, but the gnomes are my favorite.
Wow...you make it look so easy! Can’t wait to try making one and btw I love and appreciate your shot tutorials!
Great to know about the short tutorials, Donna. I'll balance the instruction with speed so I can keep them short. Have fun making them, I sure do! :)
I love your gnomes they are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Stay safe & be blessed.
Thank you, Peggy. I am so thankful I get to share them. Stay safe.
@Kerry Barlow I'm so happy to hear that, Kerry. I hope you have fun making them.
My sisters birthday present
Aww you're the sweetest to make her a hand made gift.
❤👏👏
You have such talent...I love your videos they are perfect...some videos so long with too much chatter ..where did get the sock...still waiting for my fur...so slow our mail...but understandable...this gnomes is super cute...can't wait to make him....thanks ...
Thank you so much for the feedback - and yes, I fast-forward the ones which drone on. :)
I'm so sorry you're STILL waiting on supplies, Linda. I hope the supply chains speed up again. Most of my stuff comes from Amazon, Amazon Handmade, or Etsy. I buy fur locally (when I can find it), as well.
Have fun making him and stay safe.
Sara, I thank you for answering me. I like slower videos because I'm bipolar and it bothers me when you speed then up. They are hard for me to watch. I do love you and your tutorials. ❤️
Great to know, Christine. I'll work on finding a balance on the speed. :)
I love all of your gnomes. I am a little obsessed as well.
Two things:
1. When you do the shoe tutorials can you slow it down so we can watch it a little closer and
2. Can you do a skiing gnome? I saw one at the store but they wanted 100 dollars for it! Thanks!
I will definitely try to create a skiing gnome - I have a pretty booked calendar but will see what I can do. Thank you so much for the suggestion (and for watching).
The reason I don't slow the boots and shoes tutorials too far down is because I sell the pattern. Sadly, a lot of people take screen shots and copy my patterns, so I am trying to figure out ways to share but also protect.
I will say that RUclips now allows us to control the speed. Any video you watch, click on the settings (a gear), select "playback speed," and choose anything below "normal." It really helps to slow it down but keep it moving.
@@SarahNenniDaher thanks for getting back to me. I bought the patterns so that's why i needed help. I am a visual learner. Lol
I also made a skiing gnome last night! How can i share a picture with you?
@@lindacajigas3315 Oooh, come share on Facebook. It's facebook.com/rufflesandrainboots or you can send it to my email, sarah @ ruffles and rain boots.com
Want to make him
I looove your gnomes..was that air dry clay for the hot cocoa or coffee mug?..can’t wait to get craft room set up so I can make these..and so much more..
Thank you, Cheri. No, it was the Sculpey clay you bake. I don't have any of the air dry clay but when the stores open up, I'll grab some to practice with.
Very very cute! How would you do a lady gnome with coffee?
I have a couple of tutorials out where I've made lady gnomes (I'll pop them below), but honestly, I do almost everything the same with a few exceptions. I add an apron, skirt, or some kind of accent to the body. Sometimes, I add a little bang for them, as well.
I did see where someone made a bun for the lady gnome, but mostly I stick with the braids.
There are two more videos with lady gnomes coming over the next couple of weeks, but so far I have:
Yarn Braids Lady Gnome: ruclips.net/video/Jw16tvP-cck/видео.html
Faux Fur Braids Lady Gnome: ruclips.net/video/fq4tHkpcjmk/видео.html
Love this video! Perfect speed!
I can’t find a link to the socks though. Any suggestions?
Ah, the sherpa-lined socks? I picked up mine on Amazon here but I don't see this exact style anymore. The one with the reindeer is cute (ad): amzn.to/3jmpzrN
I found the socks at Big Lots for $5.00 a pr.
Can you make a mini Christmas tree gnomes..want to make some for xmas...have you seen them...it would be a great video...Thanks..
I am sketching a series of mini gnomes right now, actually. I did a few mini gnomes this year (don't know if they all had videos or not), but I will definitely be doing them for the holidays. Thank you so much for the suggestion, Linda, and thank you for watching.
So cute do you sell these
What size wooden balls do you use for the one and hands?
The smallest ones I use are 1/2 inch normally, but I think it depends on the size of the gnome.
Can you please give me the link to where you buy your beard fur? Thank you.
Christine, sorry for the delayered response, I was on a bit of a socially-distanced mom getaway. :)
The fur I use is Mongolian fur in frosted gray and I get it by the yard from Amazon. If you don't need the full yard, some of the craft stores get it towards the holidays or you can pick it up on Etsy.
Let me get you some links*:
Amazon: amzn.to/3d1B1aB
Etsy (small cuts): rufflesandrainboots.com/go/mongolian-fur-partial-cuts/
Sarah, did your socks have the grippy dots on the bottom? I can't seem to find a good pair without
No, mine did not have the grippy dots for this one but... I have actually used one with the dots before - I just used a razor blade and cut them off. LOL
A reader JUST told me via email that she found sherpa-lined socks at her Dollar Tree. If you have one near you, it might be worth it to check out.
@@SarahNenniDaher Thank you, this is adorable
What did you use for the nose?
Theresa, for this little guy I used a polymer clay nose (just rolled a bit of clay into a ball and baked it). But you can use a button, a pom pom, or a felt or fabric nose. Anything, really.
Do you freeze your rice for no bugs
Karen, I actually stopped using rice in my gnomes because I want to keep them for decor and didn't want to keep worrying about whether a critter would get to them.
A few ideas:
- poly beads (what I use now)
- clean, dry cat litter
- sand
- aquarium rocks or small pebbles
I am new to RUclips tutorials. Can someone please explain when you say click on the link below for more information such as how big to make the individual pieces you will be using… For the pattern, where is this link? Thanks so much!
Hi there, Sarah. So it will depend on whether you're watching from a mobile device or a computer, but here are the details.
Mobile /Small Tablet: Right next to the title of the video, you will see a small arrow head pointing down. If you click that, the description box will expand. Within that, there could be a sentence ending "...more," as well. Click that to expand the rest of the description.
On desktop: Scroll down below the title and share icons. In that box, you'll see the "...more" for expansion.
Where you get the beauitful socks...
I got them on Amazon :) - here is a link to the same seller and a variety of socks / color sections: amzn.to/3k1KkcR
@@SarahNenniDaher thank you so much...I sold 7 gnomes today...I am so blessed...you are the best!!!!
@@lindadagley5822 Wow, that's amazing!!
Your videos helped me alot... I have to keep up with the times... 💓
Can you make a wine topper gnomes...please...they make great Xmas gifts...
I like everything in real time for most things, but I think I'm in the minority.
I was thinking I could do a few "lives" on Facebook for those who like to craft real time... Not sure when I'll get to one, but I have quite a few people who've said the same, Diana.
No hurry, Sarah...your ""tutes"" are just fun. Got a big chunk of clay today at Dollar General for coffee cup, and the tiny rubber bands, and got a huge piece of black sweater fur (beautiful) at JoAnn's that was 24 dollars yd regular price, but was a remnant at 3.99. Good beard fur!!!
Adorable
Thank you so much, Christine. He seems to be a favorite.
Love it
