    Nice to see a DF Magnum again!
    While knocking-in is a process I still only hand knock my bats rather than have them machine knocked. For me, I feel that it gives me a better understanding of the bats balance, weight, feel etc.

      Definitely, and if you knock it in yourself, most people tend to look after their bat a bit more due to the hours they've put into preparing their bat.

      @@FantailCricket I wouldn't disagree as I spent 4hours+ knocking in short bursts as you mentuoned in the vid. Luckily my bat has finished the season in pristine condition after a full season of nets & games & only needed a light sand. Then I gave it 2 coats of linseed oil over 4 days & placed a new fibretec sheet on the face. Now I'm all set for my Winter nets.

    Wow some classic bats. The SS, GM, County, V100 and the Duncan Fearnley.
    I had a Duncan Fearnley when I was 12 years old, 26 years ago wow 😯 ... Trying to get one to buy to keep as a memorabilia.

    Is it ok to hit the toe of the bat that hard? I heard you should hit it at 45 degree angle so it doesn’t crack.

    I was told that modern new bats need not be knocked in. Is that right? The one I bought is an English willow Gray Nicholls and has a parchment like sheet going over the edge 1” either side. Should the bat be still oiled and knocked in?

    Great video Mate. Tell me something. I placed the bat on the sand of a beach volleyball court and knocked it as I didnt want the vibrations to affect my other hand all the time. Is that okay? I see a crack on the bat now and I am not sure what cause it or when it happened.

      if I don't have a mallet and I use a ball in a sock to knock in the bat, do you think it will be the same procedure, if not what do you recommend

    • @FantailCricket
      @FantailCricket  3 года назад +2

      @@jedidiahjohn7576 We would recommend getting a wooden mallet as a ball in a sock will unlikely make an indent as there isn't enough resistance, and you won't have the same accuracy as you would with a mallet.

    • @FantailCricket
      @FantailCricket  3 года назад

      Hi Callum, the Fantail bat is our Tone shape. We would recommend a wooden mallet as the ball is softer than a wooden mallet which may mean that you're not making enough of an impression to knock the bat in to the level it requires. You also don't want the ball's seam making impressions on the blade during the knocking in process.

    Hi! Just wanted to ask, can we knock used bats too? My bat is 6 months old and I play matches with it. The sweet spot is great but small. Do you think knocking the bat regularly would increase the size of the sweet spot towards the edges and toe?

    • @FantailCricket
      @FantailCricket  Год назад +1

      Yes, you can knock in bats at any stage of their life. If the bat has a narrow sweet spot, it may be under-pressed. Using a mallet, see if you are making impressions on the face while knocking at the same power you see in the video. If you are, then it will require further knocking.

      Knocking the bag in condenses the fibres and makes the soft wood much harder. If I you don’t knock it in your bat will probably break
