Heads that have been playing real close attention can see that Billy's re-lighting a real fire under Bob here that seems to have been stowed away for awhile. Fastest 22min in awhile. This is the real deal right here. Excited to see more.
Until half way through Cassidy Bobby couldn't find the beat. I love him but it's time he hang it up. He couldn't control his attack during the duo and got lost lyrically too often. If not for the other fellas drowning him out he could have blown the entire set.
@@johnallen9567 big difference between a good time and a good performance. He couldn't control his attack, he couldn't keep time, he got lost lyrically multiple times. Having seen him at his best this was hard to watch. Sure he had his moments but he also looked absolutely lost many times. I think if more folks watched objectively they'd agree. It was a great time and Billy absolutely slayed it but I'd rather see Bobby step out with grace than decline any further on stage for all to see.
Billy you bad little bastard you !!!! So much gratitude…. Feels like everything’s gonna be all right when i see this…. Thanks for getting this on video and out to us…. 😅😅😅
Ahh....the essence. A lot is broken in our world but seeing and hearing this makes it all good! To say GD music is cross generational is a gross understatement. Love it!
My youngest son told me that is why our sons all love the Grateful Dead, because they are part of Americana, they represent all of us here in the USA, but they connect with people around the globe 🌎
Bobby the Fearless Explorer, holding his own with the kids on Slipknot!! He trained with the best, joyous to see it's still in his fingers and heart!! Jerry smiling down no doubt :) And the rest of the band sounds amazing for sure!
That was spectacular and a helluva treat. The reason Bobby (trust me) practiced those hot licks, is because night in/out he simply can't play at that pace sustained, as Sammy Hagar said, he is the best complementary rhythm & color guitarist to ever set foot on stage. Can you think of anyone that was in Bob's shoes with a different band? Not to mention the greatest American rock band of all time. He is one of a kind (all time), but we saw a jolt of good ole Grateful Dead Weir there because String & Co are fantastic and fast, Bob was not unprepared. Brought tears to my eyes. Over 6 tours spanning 7.5 years, Mayer is a master, from the outset he followed Bob's lead, deferred to Weir, and geared his now soaring otherworldly style of play to an average speed to fly when he needs to for the Dew but crawl when Stella comes calling. It works. Imagine John and Billy on the same stage, with Chimenti and Oteill, hopefully, Bob but at his age, we can only hope. You can be damn sure Mayer saw this and was smiling!
Mayer is a douche. Difficult to listen or watch him with Dead and Co. I actually enjoy some of his own music. I saw one show each from the first two tours. But I fell asleep. After seeing the Billy and the Kids show at Red Rocks, with Strings and Tom Hamilton, I’d like to see either of those two or both in Dead and Co. They can bring an energy that Mayer doesn’t have. That Red Rocks show proves that Kreutzman can still play fast. Phil’s bands always get down too! So we know the incredibly incredibly slow tempo of Dead and Co is a Bobby thing. He was one of the most unique guitar players I’ve ever heard. But he’s a really old guy and whatever tone he’s got doing just doesn’t work. All my opinion of course.
@@jbass62 He did. All night. He had both and switched back and forth. I was there. In a few songs he even switched during the song. I would say it was about 50-50 but if forced to split hairs he played 51% acoustic and 49% that strat. You can see his cut out acoustic behind him in this song. For the record they are not "red". That is the lighting and how it shows on the camera.
First time i heard Billy play some years ago. I said to myself. Wow! Some king of magical union will happen with Dead Heads. Now he is jamming with Bob Weir on stage. Good things do travel fast!
Funny thing is I got the feeling NONE of it (zero) was rehearsed at all. Althought Billy Strings and his band knew he was coming, and I am fairly certain they had a set list, I am also fairly confident almost none of it beyond that was planned or practiced. They were actually signalling cord changes and progressions by hand.
Did you see the Billy and the Kids show with Kreutzman, Tom Hamilton, and Strings with a few other players? Killer lineup and was some straight cocaine like dead, balls to the wall.
Chills (FRISSON style) each time I have listened to this, Love seeing these 2 generations of musicians playing together.... especially in these amazing songs that we all love!
This was an amazing three night run. I’ve been seeing bands and followed the dead from 1979 til Jerry died and this is the best three night run of any band I’ve ever seen.
you should catch more 3 day runs of Billy Strings if you feel that way. I've caught many and this is far from the best I have seen. Historic, yes. Best, not close.
Thank you for posting this! I can’t wipe the smile off my face…God bless Bobby Weir and Billy Strings!! I’m sorry, but it’s THIS tempo that’s missing from Dead & Co shows. They occasionally find it, but nowhere near enough. And yes, I understand that the remaining “core 3” are in their late 70s and I am GRATEFUL that they’re still playing…But, like Billy and the Kids showed us at Red Rocks, and what JRAD and Grateful Shred bring to the party, nothing like some tempo to make things right and dance the night away….I can only imagine seeing Bobby with Billy and the Kids live… Hell, I’d love to see Bobby with JRAD… There’s just something about keeping it Weir-d that makes it right!✌🏼
Billy and the kids, Phil Lesh and Friends, Planet Drums, and Bob Weir and Wolf Brothers. That would be a good lineup of bands. There would be a few surprises in this scenario.
All I can say is it was REMARKABLE. My wife and I (50s, late night is when the waiter delays bringing the check at Olive Garden) went to hear a bluegrass concert and figured we would be surrounded by average age 50 year old people, at the old stuffy Ryman. Instead we heard a Grateful Dead jam concert surrounded by wild, rowdy (not a bad thing) 20 year olds, who had pre-gamed with chemical enhancement of their senses! Reminded me my of my 20s! It was very good, fun, and refreshing!
Man , Bob Weir blows me away , his voice so crisp , like he hasn't aged.
Thats facts. I remember seeing a 80s video i was born in 89 so aint ever seen jerry but saw the other ones and the dead early 2000's
Sarcasm, right? The Dead are my favorite band ever. But Bobby really needs to hang it up, it's time.
If my grandmother was alive she would say " I think that Billy's probably a good boy" . Keep shedding light my guy.

You should have seen him at 2am with JRAD at Lockn a few years back.
@@baseball4537 sounds like fun. I wanna see Billy sit in with Jrad. Then we'd have the best of the best of today.
Presumptuous fools on RUclips trying to tell Bob Weir when it's time to hang it up... the pompous audacity.

Pasted smile watching Billy having so much fun 🤩
So happy to see this. Billy took Bobby's governor off. He can still keep up.
Ya gotta love Billy’s Dead dance grooves…he knows

Billy Bob, what a combo, especially with added Mando, banjo, and Upright Bass. Music made in inspiration.
Absolutely fantastic stuff!!!!!!!
This might be the best tone Bobby has had since Dead and Co started. It's like he is actually trying to keep up with Billy instead of lazying along
Bob Weir has never “lazied along”
