- How Dark Souls 3 Speedrunners Solved Crystal Sage
Dark Souls 3 bosses come in varying difficulty. Crystal Sage is known to be one of the easier bosses in the game. Dark Souls 3 speedrunners had to come up with a way to make this fight consistent as it was costing runners up to 20 seconds of time loss on some runs. Instead of parrying Sage as a back up runners now read the boss' teleport and finish it off quickly and efficiently.

I struggled more on sage than the nameless king. I cannot figure out magic.
Lots of tricks and late attacks. Also attacks from multiple angles
Just don’t take damage
@@freeland7962 Well shit, now Dark souls is one of the most easy games out there.
Best strat in every souls game when struggling is:
remove armor, equip grass crest shield and/or other stamina enhancing stuff, fast sword and run like a maniac to the enemy and hit them.
100% best strat, works 50% of the time.
@@vladimirlenin6837 Instructions unclear. Was arrested for Public Indecency.
I learned that if I kick my tv in half, I can no longer see the crystal sage, defeating him in one blow.
Sage can be either really easy or really hard, if I got unlucky in second phase I would get extremely overwhelmed and die in a few soul spears
Apparently it was GinoMachino that solved the riddle that is Crystal Sage’s crystal formations, and speedrunners started adapting his strategy thereafter. He finally made a crystal sage tutorial a few weeks ago and talked about the crystal formations
we had been watching no hitters do it for awhile and no one committed to the timeloss. its technically slower than the parry strat (with perfect rng) but its much more consistent.
@@MattApocaalypsegino is just that guy, he is him
Me who frantically spins in circles waiting for sage to reappear.
a fun strat that I do as a pyromancer is stun lock crystal sage to death with the pyro grab.
you need to time your grabs to when he gets up (he will teleport away if you let him) but its a generous window for the grab
edit: the grab is called sacred flame and you can get it before the crystal sage.
you just need to get to Izalith, it's in the lava pit by Knight slayer Tsorig if memory serves
Can this stop the clones from spawning?
@@elvinamadodefrancis4745 yes, the sage legit can't do anything once you get your hand on her
Edit: spelling
I have no idea why all my friends say crystal Sage is easy, and abyss watchers was a skill check.
I died to Sage like 10 times and easily beat Abyss Watchers on my first try. They were a push over.
As someone who is colourblind, i have trouble seeing the colour difference, and it made sage more difficult than watchers
@@coffeecrispy2673 I just have poor reaction time and I'd get hit by like 20 shards lol
@@coffeecrispy2673 oh man that's so fucked.. could you tell the difference at all? or did you just wing it
I learnt that if you are crazy ,you can just go for the purple magic casting sage and spam r2 and tank the clone's hits.
Struggled on him at first but wound up figuring out how to figure out his spawn location on solo and finally wound up in a double-kill. Didn’t know about the crystals.
I'm surprised people think this boss is hard. Even as a STR melee builder this dude wasn't that much of a challenge. Spells are super easy to dodge, even when multiple attacks are coming at you. It's only hard if you're just trying to rush him to death and not waiting for opening between his spells to take out the clones or himself if you get lucky. It's more of a matter of patience rather than ability.
Frosty straight sword frost crit sometimes can kill it before it teles
Was easy my first play though. When I tried again focusing on an int build I struggled HARD
Grab the posion staff from the road of sacrifice it has a special effect of ot procs posion which does percentile damage rather then the set ammount of possion damage in dark souls 3. ( there is a spot in the boss room he cant hit you)
On my magic only run I used pestilence mist(instant damage and percentage based)for first phase he don't move much in that phase and soul great sword in second cause he moved more
And Farron dart to kill the clones quickly
It was the same for me my first playthrough, I tried using fireballs and he mopped the floor with me. I had to switch to melee and beat him down as quickly as possible in order to win. It can quickly get out of hand if you aren’t aggressive
@@grimreefer213Crystal sage is a female
Huh, didnt know his teleports were predictable. I figured out aldritch's were tho and my friends thought i was a wizard cause id gun it for him every time
I don't think it's easy, it's mid difficulty, i did it 3rd try.
3rd ha ha try I don't even know anymore
It was hell for me, until i discovered a pyro Magic that acts like a forced parry
Crystal Sage: nooo you cant just cheese me, im a Boss
NG+ faith builds: haha vow to silience go brrrr
It's funny but I've never used Vow of Silence despite being a STG/FAI build. Like in any game and I now just feel dumb how much easier my life could've been against magic users if I just used it.
As a person with real world problems this breaks my heart. Shout out to those speed runners losing 2-3 seconds my heart goes out to your family
Yea okay
Easy is an understatement, this boss is easily top 3 ds3 boss in difficulty.
Ultra greatsword from farron keep and got her half HP then she went underground and I killed her when she popper up spent most of my flasks killing our clowns and then I killed her
Throwing knives.
Try this fight with a magic build impossible or very freaking hard had to use my sword lol
Tarnished guy that solves crystal cage
Why is it that the bosses everyone says “are easy” are the ones I get stuck on and the ones people say are difficult I beat fairly easily.
This was so fucking difficult 😭 I kept getting hit by massive magic missiles and kept dying
Lol if you strafe left near thebshoulder it doesn't attack at all.. every time
Hm? Does it still teleport?
"One of the easier bosses of dark souls 3" Kinda hard to beat when you have 5 clones continuously blasting attacks at you
Always forget this boss exist. Its a cool idea done wrong.
easiest??? I struggle with this boss on ng+ it is way harder than pontiff
Every time this logan wannabe massacres my ass I think to myself, "I sure am glad this is one of the easiest bosses", and then go on to destroy the nameless king.
When I posted this i learned that calling this boss easy was a hot take
I think the reason why a lot of players beat Nameless King so effortlessly but still struggle against Crystal Sage is simply because the Nameless King is fun as hell. When you enjoy fighting certain enemies, those are the ones that you're gonna learn not because you're paying attention, but because you're spending more focus on those enemies because you're enjoying them more. I still struggle against Firesage Demon not because it's hard, but because I don't enjoy the fight with it and never bothered to learn how to fight it properly and just want to get past it as quickly as possible but then go on to destroy the Centipede Demon as to me it's one of the coolest Demon bosses in the game.
For me sage and tree balls was the hardest in the game for me every boss took me 3-4 tries and sage and tree balls took me 10+
After so many hours in DS3, Crystal Sage is the only boss that i can't consistently kill on first try every playthrough, his arena is a fucking bullet hell.
Use cheap throwing weapons. If youre struggling with "phase 2" the fake sages can be rapidly killed with throwing knives (one hit kill). The one with purple magic is the real one. I didnt know about the stuff hes talking about in the clip though
I thought this for a while, but now you can 1 phase her just by having +5 sellswords which are very easy to get before her, just parry twice and kill before she even teleports once
7 years later dahh
Or you can just jump over the fog gate using janky hitboxes.
Im really bad at it
Used the dragon slayer great axe, never felt so powerful.
Of course FromSoftware would add a detail like that
I hate the crystal sage so much oh my god it ends my zero death runs
Which weapon is he using?
I thought Power stancing was only in DS2-
Some specific weapons power stance when you two hand them, like the sellsword twinblades, or the brigand daggers (not sure what they’re actually called).
most runners don’t kill sage because she is optional
Took my seven tries to beat him
“One of the easier bosses”
This bastarf kept disappearing as soon as I lifted my sword, like 4 times, then glitches out like crazy, then fell dead but was still on screen but the enemy slain text on it.. wtf???
VeryPog
Bruh wtf he ain't Milenia levels of hard but he was not easy
Bruh it's still dark souls it's not gonna be easy
Malenia is easier than Crystal Sage
@@JoeyCentral that's just flat wrong
@@crispychips1173 the video stated the boss fight was easy. I'm stating it wasn't that easy but not like a legendary level fight difficulty wise
@@jeambeam3173 I killed Malenia without taking a single hit in NG+7 as well as at RL1 severAl times.
Sage is the only boss that I get stuck on anymore lol I’ve died more to him than Gael
i forgot ds3 existed lol. i still play scholar. 3 was mid
This was almost based but then you said scholar and not vanilla ds2
@@MattApocaalypse yea vanilla ds2 was the worst game in the series, scholar was the best
