A six-year-old who's hearing impairment had been undiagnosed for years lit up when he was finally able to hear his mom say "I love you" clearly for the first time, bringing both to tears. Mom Courtney Inabinette, 30, from Tampa, Florida, had noticed her son Konnor wasn’t talking as much as his younger sister, which she initially thought might be normal for someone of his age. But as time progressed, Konnor's tantrums and temper were assessed by a pediatrician, who sent him for a speech and hearing evaluation, revealing he had a moderate-to-severe hearing impairment. From there, Konnor visited an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist in January 2024, who diagnosed him with bilateral hearing loss symmetrical in both ears which was leading to his frustrations. Then, on January 19, Konnor was given his first hearing aids, which, when they were activated, caused the youngster to immediately light up. As a smile beamed across his face, Konnor then heard his mom say "I love you" clearly for the first time in his life - an emotional moment Courtney captured on video.

As an old man with hearing problems, who wears hearing aids. I can tell you that young man's tears are genuine. Tears of joy. Hallelujah!

You should try a linseed poultice. Blend a cup of seed with a cup of boiling water and a knob of butter. If too stiff add another splash of water. When cooled push some into esr using a large syringe. Do one ear only at a time and leave 8 hrs. Next morning push out air from syringe and draw plunger up slowly to extract the poultice. Repeat this for 5 days. If your hearing improves do the other ear. When we get colds etc., the inflamation on the eardrum causes the delicate lining to collect scar tissue and causing it to thicken. This prevents it vibrating to sound especially the higher and lower sounds. You could also put it around the outside of the ear over the mastoid bone. Cover with cling to keep in place.

I mean technically it was the doctors and engineers that did something
In the UK he would have gotten them when he was a baby. This kid missed out on 4 or 5 years of hearing for no reason.
Don't forget the Dad. I'm sure he supported the hearing aid for his son, too. Both did a wonderful job!

I taught school for 30 years. You can pick up so many attributes of a child very quickly. This little boy was excited but acted clearly with love and manners. I would have taken him in my class so happily.
He's a lucky boy to have parents who helped him as much as they can to get him to this point. He's gonna be a awesome man and never gonna take a moment of sound for granted.

I was wondering that too and Im wondering if his hearing was low enough that he could hear TV and stuff with headphones but not natural voices of people so he still knew words. Or if he lost his hearing when he was 2-3 and already knew words

It’s so amazing that we are able to do this. I do hope the deaf community doesn’t dwindle though because any deaf adult would say they wouldn’t change their situation for anything. It’s beautiful for those that do want to hear that are able to like this boy. I can’t imagine how he feels to hear his mom.

As a former Hearing Healthcare provider this is my favorite thing seeing the patients reactions to hearing for the first time. Things are louder and very sharp,/tinny, so the first month, the brain has to be retrained to hearing. It can cause mental fatigue so I would recommend intervals of quiet. Proper transition amplification training requires a skilled specialist and the patient and family's interaction in this process.😊❤
