At the time the reviews were,or seemed, positive and heightened the anticipation for release. wasn't disappointed on the day it came out.
    Great show Martin

"Run to the Hills" is an all-time classic... anthemic yet very unique how the opening verse is so different from the rest (portraying opposing points of view)... and the song has probably turned more people on to Maiden than any other song. Martin probably considers it a disco song.

*Martin* Epic thumbnail on your show coming up later tonight. 🤘🏽 Good stuff here, as well.

I can't believe the writer addressed "Gangland" but not "Run to the Hills" - like it or not, it's one of the band's undeniable anthems and an unequivocal display of arena-bound ambition from this hungry band of upstarts (I personally love the song). Also I still don't understand why fans don't like "Invaders". To me it's a breathless statement of intent, kicking off the album with flair, skill and purpose. Nice one, Martin!

I'm glad you said that about Run to the Hills, it was my introduction to Iron Maiden and I didn't like it. Caused me not to give them a real try for a while. Thought it was just me as everyone I knew loved the song. Years later, still don't like the song but love this album. In any event, I like these types of shows, very cool!

the drum beat for the title track is brilliant...that zombie walk with a club foot...the Devil's music with that accent that goes against your body's natural rhythm...I like everything on it...and prefer Gangland over Total Eclipse..stick to the vinyl version.

It really perplexes me that people diss this album in favor of Piece of Mind. Sure Invaders and Gangland are the weaker tracks on this stellar album, but if any other band had those tracks on their albums they might be considered the best tracks. I think Number towers over Piece of Mind. Sure Piece of Mind has The Trooper and Where Eagles Dare, but it also has tracks way below the standard of Gangland and Invaders. Quest For Fire, Die With Your Boots On, Sun and Steel and even Still Life (which I love) are not up to the rest of the album. Number contains possibly Maiden's greatest song (with Bruce, at least) in Hallowed Be Thy Name. Acacia Avenue, The Prisoner, Number of the Beast, Run To The Hills and Children of the Damned are absolute classics. I would say that even Flight of Icarus and Revelations don't match any of those tracks.
