definetly an underrated game. it might not be as big as some might think, taken it's a 3ds release, but it's a remake and they pretty much stayed true to the original, so for me that's rather a plus. they have some additional contents though, which can make the game easier, or harder, which is pretty much up to the player.
you know whats funny at first I was like "why did they make Eruca's hair longer??" then im like well so much time has passed between the DS release and the 3DS remake it makes sense
I never played a game that resonated so deeply within my soul, had the cognitive distanance be so razor thin, hit every emotional beat, made me care, made me be invested, made the characters desires and my own match. At first, I looked at the box art? seemed strange, I never thought it'd be much good, thought it'd be stupid. Went in with quite low expectations, I was indifferent to the first quest, yeah yeah exposition, yeah yeah mission.. Just point me to the thing you want killed. But as the game progress, I found myself to care? The game is detailed and rich, with little nods and details. From the dying trees in the middle of a desert, they would never grow there- the desertification must have came after, and somewhat recently too. The world is crying out in pain, you can tell in the grass, the dirt, the trees, the air, the flowers, the animals. The world speaks for itself, matching what the game warns you what is going on and allows you to see for yourself but, subtly. Each time you fail, you get a glyph of the future and how that path failed to be enough. You come back, armed with the knowledge a little bit stronger than before. You will make it right, this time. The few problems I had with the original, is entirely fixed in the remake every single last one. So, its perfect, right? no- it loses some of the originals touches. For instance eruca's speak to her step mother, her mother replies in the remake "But everything here is essential to my well being" Self centered, self serving. In the original, "Everything here is essential to my eye, look to the peasants when we walk they revere us. They long to be in our presence, our extravagance is our duty." Twisted, wreched way of thinking, how all the country needs to thrive is to live lavishly off the broken backs of your own people. And the over all look of heiss, has changed. In the original he had a pocket watch that is difficult to make out, in the remake he has a more regal grandiose sense of presence, and a golden pocket watch clear to see. This is a subtle nod that he, too, is a time traveler. But his golden pocket watch and over all appearance seems more regal, less aged and withered like that of the original. I like how the pocket watch is more visible, I never noticed in the original that he had it at all, but in the remake, its impossible not to see. But his new found youth takes away from the experience that comes with, how he is like you but has been using the book for so long he is withered and aged, his time and that of the world is so far removed that he is many years older. Too old, so old in fact he can't keep it going needing you as his successor to carry his torch to continue the end of cycle. I questioned, why make the black book of flux, when you had the white one? The black one causes the castor to look at the past, all those who lost themselves to the ritual so the world can live another day. The ugliness of it all, while the white one looks forward to the beautify of the world, and the bright future left for all those who you leave behind. They both want the same thing, the hero and villain are not too different, in another time in another life they would have been like father and son. But, here and now, same desires but clashing ideals, a sacrifice of what could have been. Just.. Incredible, I've never given out a perfect 10 for rating a game before. I reserve it, for that one game where all the words I can say would fail to do it justice, when screamed out would fall on deaf ears. For such a game, unlike any I've ever known.. I reserved that ten for, after some consideration. I believe radient historia, deserves that perfect ten. All the mistakes or flaws I can find, is tiny nit picks like the energy crystals don't change colour when harvested so you don't know if it is (fixed in the original) and how the loot of which is not that valuable, heals 50 which is only valuable in the very early game but you only unlock the ability to harvest it in the mid game. It might as well not exist. But in the remake, it drops better loot and does change colour. I can't help but give this a perfect ten? my all time king of games. Sitting on top of his throne never once removed or jostled. Nothing dared approach- majora's mask has now been dethroned. This, this is the game, the only game I have ever or will ever give a perfect 10 to. It and it alone deserves that honor.
Radiant Historia Is an amazing videogame. The soundtrack Is overall on point... [What would you expect from one of the composer gods "Yoko Shimomura" >:D]
It is my single, all time, favorite.. My previous all time favorite held the spot for 16 years. Just now, did that throne ever waver- just now, has it actually lost its crown for another. Please, I implore you, play it. Play it. I hope the gravity of my words are not lost on you. It is absolutely worth getting, worth playing, worth experiencing. Please, its more than just a game.. its, a deep enriching experience. Its something that will never leave you, something you will keep coming back to think about from time to time. give you pause.. So, please, play it.
