- If you’re thinking about taking a day trip from Gdańsk, you’re in the right place.
With excellent rail links to other resorts on the Polish coast, as well as charming towns and cities in the north of Poland, there’s an abundance of places to visit for a day from the Capital of Amber that is Gdańsk.
First up is Sopot - Poland’s most famous seaside resort. Sopot is just a 20-minute train ride away from Gdańsk. We bring to you clips from both summertime and wintertime. When the weather is right, Sopot can also get busy in the winter.
Second in line is Elbląg. A city in the Warmian-Masurian region, Elbląg has many popular attractions including the Market Gate, St. Nicholas Cathedral and the Museum of Archeology and History. On the particular day we visited Elbląg, we were fortunate to witness “Elbląg 1710” - a reconstructive event and reenactment about Elbląg’s fate during the Great Northern War.
Finally, we have Bydgoszcz. The city of Bydgoszcz can be reached in around 1 hour and 25 minutes from Gdansk, using the PKP Intercity train service. The fastest connection takes 1 hour and 19 minutes. With a city population of around 339,000 inhabitants and an urban agglomeration with more than 470,000, Bydgoszcz is the eighth-largest city in Poland. It is the co-capital of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, along with Toruń.
Bydgoszcz is an architecturally rich city, with gothic, neo-gothic, neo-baroque, neoclassicist, modernist and Art Nouveau styles present. The notable granaries on Mill Island and along the riverside belong to one of the most recognised timber-framed landmarks in Poland.
