63 years old here, been a burial fan since mid 00's & massive attack since the 80's :) we have a more open mind and larger expanse of music in our aural histories Gerry. btw, wtf happened to most of the rest of our generation?
Back in the day, top rated comment was about four walls being: Fire, Earth, Water and Air. If you listen carefully, you can hear these elements being expressed. One of my all-time favorite compositions.
Burial has the capacity of making me feel like "Its worth it", "that life is worth living". It's like his songs transmit an euphoria.. some sort of anesthetic feeling inside of me that keeps me tranquilized for a limited amount of time and when it ends im back to reality.. When i heard the cry as i call it at 10:15 it brought a tear to my eye.. that cry is like Burial saying " I'm back", "I've brought you peace". Thank you Burial for giving me that peace, and for changing my life with your music
This song is very special to me, it represents the way music can cross generations. When I was a kid one of my dad's favourite bands were Massive Attack and I grew up listening to the album Mezzanine. Then recently I showed my Dad 'Distant Lights; by Burial and he was astounded. The next day he bought Burial's albums. To see Burial doing a collab with Massive Attack is so touching. I love how good music always finds the right people, regardless of when you are born.
Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star) deserves credit on this song. Not only does she sing lead on it, she also co-wrote the song, writing lyrics and vocal melody. It's called "Four Walls" 'cause Hope's lyrics include that phrase. We know she co-wrote it partly 'cause some sites cite her as co-writer and also 'cause that's the way she works with Massive Attack. They send her a music track and she writes lyrics & melody and records it. She said in an interview there are many more collabs she's done with Massive Attack (aside from "Four Walls," "Paradise Circus," and "The Spoils," which have never yet been released. Bring!
It feels like this track could continue on forever, the way the kick drum comes in at 11:30 and you get that slight gating affect. It makes me wish it continued for another 30 min.
I love the breaks present in every Burial track. You know its a sign of another great loop. He's highly appreciated by many, yet cut down by even more. I for one, love these tunes. He's a god father to his musical genre.
I was lucky enough to be DJing in the Bristol area during the early 1990s when Massive Attack burst onto the scene from the dub sound system the Wild Bunch. So pleased to hear them still collaborating with meaningful artists and making such amazing music. Peace.
They know that I can't settle down They know but they won't keep me in line, in line They know that I want his liquid They know that I'm not her breath They know that I can't settle down They know but they won't keep me in line, in line, These four walls have eyes, got lost on the way They'll hold me a while till he thinks that way, till In line last night held the light Down to save me from pain, happiness can lie Remembering our lost home(our lost way) in line,in line till we're lost,I forgot
pure emotion as per, its like what some people dont clinch about the music, and maybe think its drab or drear. but its just emotion uncut with concern over structure and other bits that dilute if you arent really a master who can weave the two
My part of Texas finally saw one of its first big rains in almost four months. I celebrated by listening to 'Untrue' for three hours straight. He hath rewarded me handsomely.
Nice to hear a pretty much brand new track, sound so old school dubstep. A bit too long but then thats nothing to moan about, I like the comment about him appearing at your doorstep and explaning himself, then dissapearing... kind of the images I think about when listening to burial.. kind of eary thoughts etc :) thx for sharing
People who clicked dislike button....??? What can be disliked here??? 12 sec. of pure art! These men have created something so deep, touchy, beautiful, full of emotions, something like a short movie of life! Have no words at all to discribe how incredibly good that song is!!! Thank you Massive Attack and Burial for making this masterpiece!!! Your music change people!!! (bow)
the thing about music is, once a certain piece touches u or fits to ur emotional state, its a good piece to u...its an art form so diverse that u r ought to like some and hate others...its up to u to put up a comment the same way every piece sounds different...just dont judge others for liking something u dont...its a youtube discussion going on probably for centuries to come...
very unsettling, wow they make atmosphere! bloody brilliant! and almost therapeutic at the same time. i love this music, it has such human elements and emotions that we can all understand and feel again.
@casiblake The whole track is actually 4/4 it's just really slowed down with a strong offbeat emphasis and a slight disjointed shuffle in the rhythms. I do know what you're talking about though and I couldn't agree more. It get's you all tensed up, it's the perfect tease.
the feelings and sensations that run through me at 1:55 and onward are simply unexplainable, truly an incredible and captivating piece of music light years ahead of time. peace.
Hypnotic vocals rise above the musty atmosphere. a bemoaning voice says “they know that I can't settle down / they know but they won't keep me in line, in line.” excellent collaboration between massive attack and burial. 5 *****
@murderhopes i'm pretty sure the chorus is 'and lord that i can settle down, and lord the devil will keep me here in my room, here in my room' not sure about the rest though, and thats probably wrong haha
Weird thought..... but I bet Burial put a bunch of fantastic drums on this track until he realized; all I need is the simplicity of a kick and snare.... that's why when it kicks in its my favorite part of the song.
@aritheory He has a few of those, doesn't he? Shopping trollies being smashed into each other seems to be the one on Street Halo, although the Fostercare noise is teased a little. I'd say the beep on the beginning of Pirates and Distant Lights is the "audio stamp" for the first album haha.
It's kind of exactly what I would expect: this abstract echoing, plunging-into-the-soul kind of ethereal epic. But it's executed too damn well to be overlooked. Mind fucking stuff.
@howincrediblyshit Depends how high your expectations were? This is basically a mashup from what I can gather, it's certainly not a collaborated song with detailed production and it doesn't seem like a closely worked remix between Burial/MA. Those things considered I think it demonstrates extra touches of beauty promised by future releases between the two
@glaxglax how the F did i miss them before? i must have skimmed through and the parts i heard didnt have any vocals. but youre right, theyre faint but there.
Pro tip. In the URL replace the word 'youtube' with 'rainymood' but keep everything else in the URL the same. Then enjoy another dimension to this wonderful music.
@ejkkje i guess you shouldn't have to try. for me this is the best thing 3D has been involved in since the Mezzanine album, and one of the most ambitious things i've heard from Burial. for me it's all about the atmosphere - and this track has atmosphere by the fucking bucketload. i listen to it and imagery and connotations flood my mind.
@fuzkforyou Massive Attack are two producers haha, I keep being surprised by how people so readily assume things. Also another fact, this is burials remix of massive attacks unreleased track...so basically you dislike burials remix because what you are hearing is everything Burial wanted in the track. Believe and enjoy what you wish, you should be mindful of the facts though.
9:41 onwards is breathtaking. u can tell burial is evolving, he is mastering his sound. burial needs to make more songs that sound like that. ps, burial i fuking luv u
I maybe 61 years old but I still love to listen to different music and this is mesmerising!
awesome! you should check out burial's music on a vinyl record sometime!

I love your comment so much, and 11 years after, I just hope you are well

I've listened to this song as i fall asleep every night for the last two years... I think i live in a different world because of it :)
☺😊
Agreed! I need this song to sleep. I suffer from really bad insomnia. This song sends me into a deep sleep. I feel at peace:D
It's hypnotic
omg, same..

Two of my favourite artists, together.
Still the best Burial track in my opinion. Nothing else drowns me in melancholy and euphoria at the same time like this masterpiece.
It feels like this track could continue on forever, the way the kick drum comes in at 11:30 and you get that slight gating affect. It makes me wish it continued for another 30 min.
What do you mean by gating? A side chain?
This is the top of everything I experienced musically so far in my life. Without exaggeration! THANK YOU!
I love the breaks present in every Burial track. You know its a sign of another great loop. He's highly appreciated by many, yet cut down by even more. I for one, love these tunes. He's a god father to his musical genre.
who is cutting down burial? i have never heard anything but unanimous praise for over a decade
If only Massive Attack released their original version of this song. I really like Hope's singing.
there is such beauty in his work. havent heard an artist in over a decade who has moved me like he has. keep up the good work mate
I was lucky enough to be DJing in the Bristol area during the early 1990s when Massive Attack burst onto the scene from the dub sound system the Wild Bunch. So pleased to hear them still collaborating with meaningful artists and making such amazing music. Peace.
Four walls...
1 Fire 00:00 - 02:35
2 Earth 02:36 - 08:57
3 Air 08:58 - 09:40
4 Water 09:41 - 11:45
***** When I thought about it and listened in view of the 4 elements, then I had shivers even stronger. thx
+mostawesomedude Thanks !!!!
+mostawesomedude I ve already read this comment somewhere... oh wait ! I wrote it ;)
i see it!
+Ben Schmiedicke Now that is some in depth track analysis - Thanks!
11 years later, and I still get mindblowned everytime
It's worth to spend almost 12 minutes with this music. The best time of your life, I swear!
They know that I can't settle down
They know but they won't keep me in line, in line
They know that I want his liquid
They know that I'm not her breath
They know that I can't settle down
They know but they won't keep me in line, in line,
These four walls have eyes, got lost on the way
They'll hold me a while till he thinks that way, till
In line last night held the light
Down to save me from pain, happiness can lie
Remembering our lost home(our lost way)
in line,in line till we're lost,I forgot
I'm not sure these are the correct lyrics. Did you get them from an official source? I always heard a few lines a little differently...
pure emotion as per, its like what some people dont clinch about the music, and maybe think its drab or drear. but its just emotion uncut with concern over structure and other bits that dilute if you arent really a master who can weave the two
Happy to have found this. Absolutely fantastic. Incredibly breathtaking sounds. Brilliant.
wow listening to this again since 2011. I used to listen to this over and over. I was in a real dark but beautiful place
otherworldly beauty, idk how could anyone hit dislike and complain, if you don't like it, simply leave and let this piece of art undisturbed
It's so rare these team-ups are as good as you'd hope they could be, but this is everything I'd hoped for and more! Sublime.
My part of Texas finally saw one of its first big rains in almost four months. I celebrated by listening to 'Untrue' for three hours straight. He hath rewarded me handsomely.
This should play at train stations late at night.
The whole song is amazing, but the best part is definatly 9:00 onwards. Simply beautiful.
Nice to hear a pretty much brand new track, sound so old school dubstep. A bit too long but then thats nothing to moan about, I like the comment about him appearing at your doorstep and explaning himself, then dissapearing... kind of the images I think about when listening to burial.. kind of eary thoughts etc :) thx for sharing
this song makes me feel like I'm very far underwater during a tsunami. peaceful, but the immense intensity above me can be gently felt.
People who clicked dislike button....??? What can be disliked here??? 12 sec. of pure art! 'Infinite'
Of course Mrsuicidesheep is a burial fan!
Man... when the beat hits at 2:41
Some crazy cool vibes going on here. I love that the track's 12 minutes long, too.
the thing about music is, once a certain piece touches u or fits to ur emotional state, its a good piece to u...its an art form so diverse that u r ought to like some and hate others...its up to u to put up a comment the same way every piece sounds different...just dont judge others for liking something u dont...its a youtube discussion going on probably for centuries to come...
this track is a state of completeness and flawlessness
09:40 onwards is PARTICULARLY incredible! The whole thing is just awesome.
Wow...amazing. Imagery, elements, presentation and overall concept is brilliant. A timeline of events and emotions expressed through sounds.
If my girlfriend sounded like this I'd actually listen to her.
Wish they reduced the gain on those random noises (they're a little jarring)... but other than that this is awesome :P
Beautiful, can't stop listening to it. 12 mins, but it ends too soon.
@AbakusMusic Anything burial touches is next level, i'd buy any release without even hearing it he's that good
that transition in 9:00 is just..heaven. after all that deep in past 9 minutes, there is a new light.
very unsettling, wow they make atmosphere! bloody brilliant! and almost therapeutic at the same time. i love this music, it has such human elements and emotions that we can all understand and feel again.
I listen to a whole range of dubstep and electronic music in general but there is nothing on the Earth like Burial and this release is just next level
This song was in my favourites before it had hit 00:06, with these two you just know it's going to be special.
i think i'm living this tune. (stuck in room, a seamless grey weather outside...burial works define my life)
@cob141 Same here. Sucks being down under, but man is it going to be worth the wait.
@TheMann1312 definately. you should check out Burial - Archangel, while you're at it. great tune
coming back to this every day... big big big!
@casiblake The whole track is actually 4/4 it's just really slowed down with a strong offbeat emphasis and a slight disjointed shuffle in the rhythms. I do know what you're talking about though and I couldn't agree more. It get's you all tensed up, it's the perfect tease.

@CrazyGuyMeh Great call man! Fantastic addition to it!
@ImperialLobster no doubt that would help, i still prefer a few vocals here and there to break things up.
@murderhopes i'm pretty sure the chorus is 'and lord that i can settle down, and lord the devil will keep me here in my room, here in my room'
not sure about the rest though, and thats probably wrong haha
Weird thought..... but I bet Burial put a bunch of fantastic drums on this track until he realized; all I need is the simplicity of a kick and snare.... that's why when it kicks in its my favorite part of the song.
@AbakusMusic i don't have a spliff and this just vaporized every song i've heard in the last year
amorphous nebulous constantly revolving devolving spirit shattering coherence on these achingly beautiful sonic transient vibrations
lol are ya fuckin gay
@aritheory He has a few of those, doesn't he? Shopping trollies being smashed into each other seems to be the one on Street Halo, although the Fostercare noise is teased a little. I'd say the beep on the beginning of Pirates and Distant Lights is the "audio stamp" for the first album haha.
@peebrian202869 that's his "audio stamp" now, i love it. gives me goosebumps.
It's kind of exactly what I would expect: this abstract echoing, plunging-into-the-soul kind of ethereal epic. But it's executed too damn well to be overlooked. Mind fucking stuff.
When I saw this link I was almost as excited about seeing the ridiculous arguments as I was to actually hear the tune.
EPIC. Just seeing those two names next to each other is awesome.
マッシブ アタック プロテクションからずっと聞いています。
オリジナリティーがいい。独自の世界を創造し続けてください。
YES, this shit finally happened, cant believe it, already secured my copy, so stoked for more collab stuff to come out
Calling Burials music "techno" shows how much you know about the genre to.
True. Burial IS dubstep, no one comes close... well Kode9 and Thespaceape are there with him... but William rules
@howincrediblyshit Depends how high your expectations were? This is basically a mashup from what I can gather, it's certainly not a collaborated song with detailed production and it doesn't seem like a closely worked remix between Burial/MA. i know that sample used at 10:15 from another burialtrack. check burial - fostercare in the beginning. beautiful song anyway!
Who is the female singing in this? Beautiful song... amazing. It sounds like Hope from Paradise Circus but I cant seem to find any information online.
It is Hope Sandoval
@sleestack808 He is 55. Massive Attack are just one of his favourites as I said.
@yenbadcito Yea it is for me it keeps the sound nice and fresh.
@glaxglax how the F did i miss them before? i must have skimmed through and the parts i heard didnt have any vocals. but youre right, theyre faint but there.
burial is like: telling me that there is another world than this
For me this is great! Cool music! Wonder! Thank you my friend.. I have not experienced something that is similar. Thans, thanks... Hey!
How on earth did I not know this existed?
Matt M just be glad that you do now.
@moonscore Agreed, I really think he should do a soundtrack and the new Bladerunner movie sounds perfect.
@Jinrikishaa Haha wow me too. I'm the only one out of everybody i know that knows about Burial and im glad its this way.
Pro tip. In the URL replace the word 'youtube' with 'rainymood' but keep everything else in the URL the same. Then enjoy another dimension to this wonderful music.
@Jinrikishaa try moving to the UK, Burial is big here!
This is the one they used on the Shallow Hal soundtrack, brilliant
BEAUTIFUL. EXTRAORDINARY WORK, I´M ASTONISH...
I dig that this channel was made for this track
świetna wspólpraca super artystow niepowtarzalnego brzmienia muzyki...
Spinning this record is truly like spinning a piece of carefully crafted circular gold
@cp1492 on the website it says "Both tracks exclusive to this limited edition" so either they're lying, or you're imagining things.
Is that the singer from Mazzy Star too? This is unbelievable. What a record.
Burial's 'Forgive' might have made a much more interesting scramble-insert for Air. Would have been a nice Brian Eno reference, too.
я до сих пор в ахуе с этого релиза, спустя почти 10 лет
it's not violin (if i'm not mistaken) it's "ney" an eastern wind instrument.
@Jinrikishaa where do u live? in prague, CZ, there are few of us ...:]
This is just...I don't have words for this. Masterpiece?
@ratz203 its from fostercare (5 years of hyperdub album)
It's difficult to me which parts are done by Burial and which ones by Massive Attack :l . Like, what does Burial contribute, or the other way around?
I neither know nor care what the rest of you are arguing about, I came here to listen to this beautiful track, and so...that's what I'm doing.
£25 for the vinyl. Yeah I really want to pay the extra £££ for a bit of gold glitter and the 2 seconds it takes for someone to "hand stamp" it.
9:41 onwards is breathtaking. u can tell burial is evolving, he is mastering his sound. burial needs to make more songs that sound like that.
ps, burial i fuking luv u
did they not play the paradise circus remix on the radio 1 show? I need to hear it!
it's sad that i don't know one person i could share this masterpiece with.
It is more Burial than Massive Attack, but good enough to love them both for it!
my homework jam. super chill, doesnt distract
