- Vivian and Phil Williams share some old time fiddle tunes at the 2013 Western Open Fiddle and Picking Contest in Red Bluff, California.
Some of the tunes played:
1) The opening tune is only the last few measures and is unknown to me
2) Concert Reel
3) Lost Indian
4) Old Coon Dog
5) Nine Miles
6) My skip is on the shore (Lindon Waltz)
7) No name - Waltz #3 from Jack Wallsey (handwritten manuscript from The Willamette Valley ~1870)
8) Rye Straw (The unfortunate Dog) played at 1862 Wedding in Seattle by Jack Blake
9) Yellow Barber

I love how RUclips always brings me back here eventually...
You can tell how much you love this music.I loved hearing it.Truly enjoyable.
January 7, 2023. Just heard Vivian has passed away.
This is very sad. Vivian was a very good person, as was Phil. Vivian was an encyclopedia of fiddling knowledge, knew the complete history of tunes, who wrote it, when, and the other names the tune went by.
SO grateful for RUclips when I want to learn something that I would have normally had to learn from the musicians in person.
Absolutely beautiful and great old time music love it
First heard Vivian and Phil Williams back in high school in the late 60's in Seattle when they were in the Tall Timber Boys band (later Tall Timber String Band). I fell in love with bluegrass and later also with fiddle tunes.

Quelle aisance. Bravo et longue vie en musique. Très Irlandais.
I was dancing while laying in bed for the second one
The Pianiolist I was doing exactly the same thing! It’s a great tune!!
Great flat picking and wonderful fiddling. Sounds like Irish tunes.
Scottish ,I reckon
What you've titled "Rice Draw" is actually "Rye Straw" :-) the tune is actually a song that has scatological lyrics (because the unfortunate dog ate the straw and had digestion issues). That is as delicately as I can phrase it, hee hee.
Thanks for posting this.
Billy K Thank you so much for providing the proper tune name! Very much appreciated.
FiddleSupporter Thanks again for posting this.
