    It's 2AM and i'ma dancin' in the den. It's in my blood. Dad was born in 1920 and passed away in 2007.His pa taught him how to play the banjo and guitar.He was playing barn dances ,square dances and the like when he wasthirteen starting in the 1930's . He taught me the banjo and guitar in the 60's..Claw hammer rules. He was drafted into the navy during ww2. and bought his Kalamazoo banjo in 1942.Ihave it and still play it when my fingers work. I miss him and the fun times we had playing all the old songs and goofing around.love this old time music.

    My Dad played the fiddle for square dances and other get togethers in south western Pennsylvania and West Virginia, I remember going to these events as a kid where everyone wanted to hear "Blackie" Lemley play the fiddle. The old Steiner fell silent in 2009. Not a day goes by when I don't miss my Dad and I still hear the echoes of those sweet tones. Thank you Woody and Ketch for continuing the tradition.

    Look at all the rosin built up on them fiddles. Some folks would scoff at that, but to me - that's a thing of beauty. They're not just mantle pieces. We play our fiddles.

    Every time I watch this video it’s like the first time all over again. This time it actually brought some tears to my eyes. Just seeing two masters and legends in their own right playing together perfectly bridging decades and a couple of generations! Despite all that you see and hear nothing in that moment of the first pull of the bow it’s just two fellas playing the sound of that old time mountain, Appalachia, music! It just points out he we are America! Through the good and the bad, through the violence and the politicians who get rich by dividing us, right, left, it means nothing. When that fiddle gets a started we are Americans!!! Ketchum Secor, you are truely an American National treasure, a walking encyclopedia of American traditional culture, be it story telling, singn’ and pick’n/saw’n, explaining an origin, no matter what it is. If it’s Americana, you know it. And I’ll tell ya what Ol’ Son, you’ll never know how many lives the Old Crow Medicine Show have touched, even bringing people off the ledge, telling them their is hope. You save lives. I know you certainly saved mine. I had a rope and Caroline(the original version) came on the mix that was playing. All I could think about was my baby girl Clementine and her growing Up without her daddy. I’m a single father so me and her have a special bond and all those memories flood my brain, memories of her on my lap driving the tractor with a full wagon load of peaches or apples or whatever the workers were pick’n or pulling that day, thought about riding the four wheeler around our land checking my deer stands before bow season started then we’d stop in the meadow eat a sack lunch go pick off and apple for desert and just laugh and enjoy what God has blessed us with. I can’t even fathom her when people would try to comfort her as her thoughts go to why did daddy leave me , I want to see him! However I digress and I wanna say thank you again for saving my life and showing me it’s all beautiful and worth living so #ThankYouOldCrowMedicineShow🍑🍎🍒🍓🍉🎻🪕🧲🚬🍻☕️🌲🌲LandofthePines✌🏿✌🏻🏇🏻

    I am learning violin and the teachers stress that the instrument should be parallel with the ground. I notice that Ketch and Woody hold it slanting down on their chest rather than their shoulders?? Could you advise please

    • @TheSatisfiedPig
      @TheSatisfiedPig 6 лет назад +3

      What your teacher is telling you is accurate, but it's the classical method. Many fiddlers aren't formally trained, so they tend to have techniques that deviate from those taught by most teachers. There's some pretty unusual methods. I've seen some fiddlers brace the violin against chest or even lower. You might find as you learn that you're more comfortable in a different position, but I would stick with what your teacher suggests for now. It's important to note that may fiddlers seldom move out of first position on the fingerboard. The classical method is more conducive to shifting than the fiddlers', generally speaking.

    Great singing guys but could you go a little easier on the hard vowels, its upsetting my snake and now he's refusing to go to the afternoon prayer session. I'm old and I use music like this to get me motivated to do things I hate but the trouble is if the music is good before you know it your feet are tapping in one direction, your ass is going another direction, and the dishwasher isn't getting loaded.
