They need a screw down crown for the inner compass bezel. Owned a SARB017, the slightest contact with that crown on the wrist causes the bezel to rotate. My OCD could not take it and sold the watch. Chris when you say the 24hr number markers on the outer fixed bezel is printed, are they just printed directly on the bezel or are the number recesseed and paint is filled? If its just painted on the bezel, any dings will remove the paint and is a cheap solution.
Exact same reason I sold my 017.
I see, but you can imagine in a real situation if you every time use a screwdown crown to check your position, or you wear a glove nahh…it’s tottaly practical in that way.
And the 24hr numbers it’s filled with paint, not just printed.
A bought mine today, you need to se in real life, and compare whit the sarb017 or spb121, there is a quality difference…
i have it. great size. a tad thick. sapphire glass could be a bit more...transparent?! good quality overall and am happy with it.

I get +25/-15 @ $400 retail. I don’t get it at $1150 retail. The 6R54A and caller at this price are a deal breaker.
Drop the clear case back already Seiko - I mean why? Nothing to see really. It would be more interesting with a solid case back and would be thinner.
I love this one. Of all the Seiko GMT’s, this is the one I would get.

$1200 for a caller GMT? Hard pass! Didn't Seiko recently have a 6R equivalent movement with a traveler GMT function?
Instead, get a travelers GMT and spend 5min spinning the hour hand to set the date. Enjoy!

It is a very beautiful watch looking at it face on. The only doubt I have is about the thickness 13.5mm is quite big.
Such a beautiful watch but seiko seriously needs to lose the date window. It’s so annoying to look at at that position. Awesome piece otherwise.
Love seiko way more than Rolex,, but the alpinist is no Rolex not even close!

At 20mm, it can fit many! Uncle Seiko has a lot of options that will fit this watch easily
The compass bezel on an Alpinist lining up.....good one😅! At 4:28 it lines up on the 6 nicely, while being at least a full degree off the 12.

is there anyway you can do a better job of shooting these watches lol , the straight down 12 to 6 POv does not give a good view of the watch , when in normal life do you look at your wrist and your on top of your own wrist looking down 12 to 6 ??? along with the lighting its just reflections galore .
Man. I know it's free use music, but that chapter has ruined that music. Instantly makes me depressed. Maybe not the best music to use.
The best Rolex explorer style watch is a Rolex explorer 2 GMT in white. If you can afford it and you want mechanical. Quartz is more reliable so would be better for a field watch. Actually just get a gshock
It's not that special in the metal. Too chunky for 39mm.
It's a paradox. I'm an Alpinist fanboy but a caller GMT in an explorer's watch?? Pass.
They need to make this in 41 or 42. Too small for us bigger folk. Lol

I don't hate seiko but I do hate blind gullible seiko fanboys who lap up the modern overpriced crap they dish out just because of the name.
I love old Seikos when they were actually good quality and value for money but that was a long, long time ago.
As for superior brands there are loads, many with far more history & heritage, but I will just mention a few with far superior pieces at the price.
