I liked the ending.. It was weird and abrupt for sure but I'm glad how Alicia got slapped by Diane and still she wiped her tears in seconds, fixed her dress and moved on realising that she has grown from a miserable housewife to a lawyer who now actually knows the meaning of being a lawyer. Also the slap woke her up from the fantasy of Jason.. No matter how much she tries to be with or loves a person like Jason,it will always be Will gardener who was her true love. A terrific ending way ahead of its time.
Also want to highlight the juxtaposition between her wandering thoughts as she joins her husband in facing the press: the former where she imagines Peter’s illicit affair; and the latter where she yearns for her own affair. It adds dimension to the idea of how she has become like Peter in the end.

According to the show writers, Alicia and jason do end up together in the end, they didn't show it because and i quote "alicia falling in to the arms of jason would be a cop-out" I had to know if they ended up together, i couldn't help but do some research
